Kite Tainn
@Leaf // RE The northern lights are particularly brilliant tonight.

Kite moved slowly but surely throughout the territory, of which she was becoming accustomed to. But she had never moved too deep into its depths, not deep enough to make it here. But as the sun fell and the moon rose, the sky moved strangely... and Kite knew she had to get a better look. It would be a waste of time to go elsewhere, now; in the distance, there was a hill. Kite moved toward it, all too excited to get to the vantage point.

Hills were easier to climb, now. The plains wolf never had liked heights... and mountains were something Kite doubted she would ever get to see from their high points. No, she liked the flat, safe earth just fine. But hills? Hills were okay, even the ones that jut up from the earth like something that did not belong. And now, she could appreciate the hill for what it offered her: a view. Upon arriving to the top, the L'Crowe fell to her haunches and looked at the sky, tilting her head. It was still not dark enough for the lights to be seen, but she could see ribbons cutting through the multihued sky, moving in loose waves. They were colors she could not yet make out, but Kite was excited to see what would come of this. Never before had she seen these lights... and she wondered what they meant. Kite could not really determine whether she was nervous or thrilled for the impending event... but she did not feel like she was dying, yet. That in itself had to be a good sign.

It was a strange phenomenon to see the sky growing darker and yet more colorful by the moment, and it entirely captivated the little wolf.

With her eyes fixated on the skies, Leaf felt the sky grow closer as she climbed hills and farther as she descended back down. Though she did not mind where her feet carried her, she felt frustrated when she was not as close and would pout and frown until she was once more on higher ground. The smell of blackberries, tart yet sweet, clung heavily in the air, and she felt her senses flooded. It seemed that Relic Lore had its own treats to offer, and she became curious once again as to what else these lands had for her.

Even so, distracted by all the smells and the sounds, there really was little excuse for her not to notice the other female's scent. It was not as if she had not noticed per say but rather that everything was so much more demanding of her attention. It was only until she was nearly upon the other female, her feet stepping onto her tail as her own eyes remained fixated upwards that she realized that this scent was quite worthy of attention--and demanded it the loudest. "Oh!" she said as she bumped into the female, her head swinging in what must have been an apology, "Do you feel as if you might die soon?" It was hardly an appropriate introduction, but Leaf had also felt the increasing hunch that something was coming to a culmination, but she did not know exactly what that was. Needless to say it had to be something quite miraculous for her to feel this way. Suddenly, she felt scared.

Kite continued to squint at the sky, perplexed and quite enamored by the pretty sight. So engrossed was she that when the other traipsed closer to her she did not hear it until it was too late, and a startled and pained yelp came from her lips as she made to move away, her reflexes demanding swiftness but her alertness demanding she be slow with this, not wanting to lose said tail. The other bumped into her soon afterward, and the relief of that was great (it meant that her tail was not beneath the others paw). Kite could have laughed but instead tried to disengage and untangle, not wanting the situation to somehow worsen.

The others gesture Kite did take as an apology. She was not a mind-reader, but Kite had made the gesture many a time herself growing up... she had been clumsy, very clumsy... and still was. The others question was met with Kite's clenched jaw, and her head tilted as she tried to understand what she was feeling... was it like death? I don't know what that feels like, she murmurs, I feel... normal. I think. I can't tell. My tail hurts, here she grins, and it waves slowly, before finishing, But I think I'll live. How about you? Kite looked to the sky, watching the colors become more vibrant. Strange indeed... but beautiful. You? Kite has a difficult time looking down, but she is concerned these lights will cause something... and so Kite's eyes dart all over the woman in a fashion not known as a once-over, but one seen on an anxious mother looking after a child. Kite had no maternal instinct to speak of, but...

Well, she felt connected to the other.

Maybe it was the lights.

Hm. Thought your use of the present tense was interesting. I also forgot to mention how I think it's funny that you can tag people in your posts! I feel old. It's good to be writing with you again, dear Steph.

With a wave of her paw, Leaf dismissed the other wolf's pain. Though she could have used the excuse that it was because they both had been equally distracted, the sad truth was that she probably would have responded the same regardless of a whether there was a light show on display or not. Still there was something about the other female that made Leaf think that a more proper apology and explanation was needed. "Oh, maybe you slept on it wrong last night," she said unblinking. "But let me know if I can help make it feel better." Though it was not conscious, it was her form of apologizing--or maybe more clearing her own guilty conscience.

Perhaps it was because of this guilt that the lone wolf answered quickly and without. Though perhaps this was how she always was. "If I did, I wouldn't mind." She stiffened a bit, her tail flicking in front of her nose. It was dawning upon her that they were talking about death, and the lone wolf was uncertain whether that was pleasant or not. "What would you be afraid of losing most? I know I'd miss my baby brother. He's not here, but I know he's alive. I just know it! Ha! He'd be so upset knowing he was missing this." The ribbons of light were being to oscillate, and the whole sky reminded Leaf of a sea. She did not pursue the metaphor, though, for she knew it was a rather overused one. Still, it seemed so appropriate.

lmfao my posts and their tenses are prolly all over the place *_*_*_*_ i m half asleep so there probably is not a single tense im sticking to hELP

Damn. Kite did her best to keep composed and not laugh at the others suggestion, knowing full well that was not the case. Or maybe the other hadn't noticed it. Kite wasn't the sort to call others out, though, and really she was sure the other hadn't actually intended to curb-stomp her. Okay, not really all too sure... but Kite couldn't imagine why that'd be on the others to do list, so she swiftly put away the thought. And that the other suggested she might be able to help it feel better in so many words? Good-hearted. Couldn't possibly have meant to harm her!

Kite, ever so trusting. As the other mentioned not minding death, or feeling that this might be death... Kite was amazed. Wouldn't mind? But there was so much life left to live! Kite tried to determine how old the other was with a cursory glance, but couldn't. Then the deep question came. Kite did not even have to think to know who she would be afraid to lose most, and she said it without thought: Mirren, Mirren. Her what? Not her brother. Jus' met him and he's... my greatest... friend? More than that, I don't know, she laughs, not sure how to explain it. Anyway, I bet your brother is alive too. I've got lots of brothers. Maybe some new young ones, She shrugs, not sure; she hadn't been around for the birth of her newest siblings. But we gotta know when they pass. Some feeling or something. Kite glances to the sky again, and queries, Y'think it's only us seeing this...?

Go to bed! But hehe I kinda read your one thread with Mirren. To be in love...!

"Mirren, eh?" Here her attention was stolen away by the infinitely more fascinating topic of romantic love. It was not as if she did not find the Northern Lights captivating, for they were a thousand times over, but those little things her brother called "hormones" were rushing wildly and freely through her veins. The most unabashed smile dimpled the little wolf's face and her eyebrows rose and rose until they formed arches worthy to support the ceilings of cathedrals. "Is that what you call your brother--" she began before once more peering at the lights. Maybe it was only them who saw it, and there was a part of Leaf that wished it was. How she coveted!

Ah, but it would be more interesting if it was not only them. "No, I'm sure your friend Mirren can see them. So, is he your boyfriend or something?" There was no point beating around the bush, though the little wolf's tail moved closer to her face and flicked back and forth. She did not want to appear too forward, but in all honesty, she was dying for every tasty morsel. It was all she could do from pouncing on the other female and demanding her to confess all. It must be the lights, it had to be the lights. Nothing else could explain her shameless behavior.

AFTER THIS POST >_> CRY

It was strange to hear someone else say his name, and when the stranger did, her eyes whipped in the others direction. It was something that could not be helped, really... but she had just said his name, so it was no wonder it was repeated. She watched the others eyebrows rising and could quite literally feel the question before it came, and her whole face seemed to curl into itself at the thought, well, that's not allowed! Ah, no, of course not, pause, Well I guess not of course to you, you're not me, but no, my brothers are— she took a breath, prepared with the laundry list of names... and then is thoughtful, looks to Leaf, and realizes that this was not the point of her question, and she had gotten precisely what she had wanted. Kite, the open book. Well, there are so many; I won't get into that.

Kite, too, looked to the lights. They moved in waves as her own mind screamed and screeched and moved as a traffic jam would, hitting the breaks consistently and then moving forward too quickly to keep track of. Again Mirren was mentioned, and Kite shuffled nervously. Well, if he could see them, she'd want him to see them with her; how long did these lights last...? One night? Two? But her thoughts were off his own potential current location when the word boyfriend was brought up. Kite looks back to the stranger again, confused. She had never heard the phrase before. Aren't all boys that you befriend your boyfriend? Kite asked, ever the innocent, her eyes wide. Kite knew of friends, best friends, and mates... and acquaintances too. The other seemed coy, but Kite was not sure what for. In moments she would learn, and the yearling was excited to know just what the other was thinking.

But truth of the matter was Leaf was not that knowledgeable herself. Blinking impassively, she found herself at a mental impasse. It was true that all boys who befriended you were your "boyfriends," but as far as she was aware, she would certainly never consider her brother her boyfriend. Even the thought of calling him by such a name made her strangely nauseous, though even then she did not know what this exactly revealed about the term. Really, she had only heard the term thrown around by the prettier, more sparkly-eyed females of her old pack. She had never aspired to be one of them, however, seeing as they all seemed somewhat obsessive and even a little intoxicated, and Leaf liked to have her wits about her.

"One would think that," the small wolf admitted, unable to tease her equally ignorant counterpart because of her own--well, ignorance. "But my brother is certainly not my boyfriend," she continued. She simply had to share the fruits of her mental labor. "Boyfriends are someone special. Even though you can have a couple or a few,"--and this little bit perhaps revealed more about her former pack mates than her own moral standing on the issue--"They are someone different from the rest. You also do everything together, and they make you drunk so you can't even think right, and maybe, yes maybe they make you feel like the lights above inside." She wanted to add that she would know from personal experience, but she did not, and though it was not beyond her to lie, she did not find it necessary at the moment. "Like if I said Mirren was my boyfriend, would you be mad?" It was a dangerous question but one she asked innocently enough. Innocent gave the illusion of covering all sins.

Kite looked at Leaf, all too interested in what she would next say. The world around them seemed to dull in comparison to the bright stranger, who seemed to shimmer herself even beyond the lights above them. Maybe Leaf, someway, somehow, brought the lights on herself. Kite was amazed by how entranced she was. Was it the conversation? Was it the wolf? It did not matter; Kite wanted to keep the other at her side, to talk like this, to always have it available. She had never had girl talk, not even among her sisters. They were much like Kite, if anything a bit more inspired and regimented, but hardly feminine. Never did they bring up things like this.

Brother was not boyfriend. Well, that was easy enough to know; brothers were brothers! They could be friends, but she'd define that as a brofriend if not brother. Not all she and her brothers were tight knit. But she did have friends among them, just as she had friends among her sisters. But... none so close to talk to her like this. It was interesting; Kite liked it. The way Leaf described it did sound an awful lot like the way she felt like Mirren, and Kite looked quizzically toward Leaf, not truly even hearing the question. Instead, she said in an awed tone, Who are you? And then, after a beat, she introduces her own self. I'm Kite! I'm from the Woodlands not to far off, her tail waves left and right. Kite wanted to invite the woman to come stay forever then and there, but in the moment, she held off.

Aw! Steph (Kite) is so sweet. I also like "brofriend" hehe

It always came down to this. It was time to make her grand introduction. With great pomp, Leaf bravely rose to the occasion and lifted her snout to the glowing sky so that the other female had a perfectly outlined 3/4 profile of her face. Her features positively sparkled, though this probably had more to do with the Northern Lights than her own personal illumination system. "My name is Leaf Nattsu, and I have come here to rescue you!" She paused for dramatic effect--and for an opportunity for all of her fans to snap a picture--before finally relaxing. She caught her breath and then managed a snort. "Just kidding. Or I'm not sure what you need rescuing from, but everyone needs a savior. I really like your name, though. I once heard that you could fly kites in the sky, though it never made sense to me seeing as kites already naturally fly in the sky and certainly don't need our help." It was a rather insipid observation, but one that Leaf believed to be worth verbalizing and which she was not in the least ashamed of doing so.

She then began to process the other wolf's scent, paying closer attention to the scents of other wolves that clung tightly to her. "I'm from nowhere," she said. "I mean, I haven't found a home here yet." Leaf was, of course, oblivious to the demands that her writer faced, and was quite content wherever she was. In fact, she was quite enamored with what these lands already had to offer--though the poor girl would be disappointed to realize that the skies were not always ablaze with color. "Have you always lived there? Do you think I can come visit sometime? Maybe you can introduce me to your boyfriend." She laughed.
