Light rain — 55° F/13° C

It had started to lightly rain as Myrrhis set out in attempt to find herbs that were either not in her pack lands or hard to find otherwise. Of course, she didn’t have to go far away like she was but Myrrhis wanted to explore a little as well. Not to mention she didn’t mind the cloudy sky and what was falling from it. She liked the rain, as long as it didn’t begin to fall any harder or anything worse, she was perfectly happy to walk in the light drizzle. With her orange eyes sweeping the ground for the plants she had on her mind before a small sigh escaped passed her muzzle. She had yet to spot anything. Hopefully, she would find something before she made her way back to the den.

Huffing lightly, Myrrhis shook out her fur, dampened in the drizzle and feeling the water that had collected on her grey fur to flick off easily. Perhaps she could find a small shelter and take a rest to wait out the rain before moving on. It was a nice thought so Myrrhis allowed her orange eyes to wander in order to find a shelter that would be suitable for an hour or two as the rain continued to fall from the sky.

The heart shaped leaves above her drooped and lifted as the rain fell down on them, as if they were bowing down to the old healer so when she found an old fox den to take shelter in, Myrrhis couldn’t help but chuckle at them. Looking skyward to see if the rain would be stopping anytime soon Myrrhis noticed that part of the sky was still showing through the light clouds and as she peered closer, there were small flashes of light zooming across the inky sky.

”Shooting stars!” Myrrhis cried happily, a smile playing on her face as she settled down to watch them.

Deacon

Deacon couldn't sleep. Everyone seemed to be sleeping in their dens when the young Archer-Lyall boy wanted to explore. He didn't mind the water falling from the sky either. In fact it intrigued him and he chased after it. Trying to be silent it wasn't too long till the boy slipped away from Willow Ridge's borders into the unprotected wilderness. Not that Deacon was aware of such evil things that might hurt him out in these lands. This was why he held a smile to his face giggling chasing the droplets of water that fell before him.

After sometime his paws began to grow tired. He couldn't smell home. The Willow Ridge prince lifted his head up to the sky. Just when he was about to start howling and crying he caught sight of something moving in the sky. Watching it with wide eyes and much fascination he wagged his tail. "Wooooow!" His voice was loud letting anyone near him know he was there. One would also be able to tell it was just him by scent. Taking a seat on the ground he looked upwards watching the objects fly through the sky.

”Shooting stars!” An unfamiliar voice cracked out to the boy's ears. With a new sparked interest he moved himself on tired paws and legs to the source of the sound. Standing a good four feet away from the wolf Deacon offered a smile wide. Tilting his head slightly he looked up to the sky once more. "Whut's a shooin sar?" He sat down in front of the woman with his eyes looking straight at her. Deacon was expecting her to be like all the other wolves back in his home. To be nice to him, teach him things, maybe even shelter him!

To say she was surprised to hear, then see such a young pup wandering around on his own on-at night to boot-was an understatement so when the young boy sat between his front legs and asked what a ‘shooin sar’ was, the question of where his parents were jumped to the tip of her tongue right away.

Yet she couldn’t deny answering the question he was asking either, his large blue eyes staring right up at her, filled with curiosity and trust. How would she answer his question though? He wouldn’t understand what they really were. So she decided to give him an answer the young pup and her voice was kindly as she spoke, looking down at him warmly. ”A shooting star darling, is when a family memeber no longer with us decides to show us they’re still there with us.It looks like there are many out tonight, wanting to tell their families it;s going to be alright. ” As the words escaped her, thoughts of where this boy was from crossed her mind.

She didn’t recognise the smell that was coming off the boy, not only because the smell wasn’t something she knew but because it was faint due to the light rain that partly had washed it away. ”Are you here to watch them sweetie? Would you like to watch them with me?” She wasn’t going to send him away, no. She was going to watch over him and try to find his family, even if she had to take him back to her pack for a short while until his parents could be found.

His tail only wagged faster when her soft voice spoke out to him. Listening to her he softly nodded. "Oooo. Yawning lightly the young boy scratched at his ear quickly before returning to a sitting stance. Soon again Deacon found his ears pricking to the sound of the female in front of his. When she offered for him to watch with her he was soon to be found jumping onto his paws. Walking up to her he quickly moved himself so that he was laying against her warm body. A permanent smile was etched onto his face as he laid with the other wolf.

As his eye lids started to droop he forced himself to stay up with the female. Burring himself into her side as much as he could he tried to look up to her. "I Deacon. Who you?" With that smile stuck his tongue hung out lazily out of the corner of his mouth. It was easy to tell he was tired but happy. He was unaware of who this female really was but he was content staying with her for a little while. Every now and then his eyes would gaze around catching a few more glimpses of those shooting stars through the space in between clouds. They sure were pretty. He couldn't wait to tell his mother and father about this! They would be proud of him, wouldn't they? Seeing shooting stars and chasing water droplets made Deacon feel proud of himself. Maybe he could even get a gift for mother and father!

Chuckling as he jumped to his feet with a smile on his face, moving to her side and cuddling up to her, Myrrhis curled up around him. It reminded her of when her own children would curl up by her side during the cold nights. Oh, how she missed them and she had to blink away from the sudden spike of tears that were blurring her vision slightly. Shaking her head, her attention was turned back to him when he begun to speak. It was clear through his speech capacity that he was still quite young however. it didn’t stop Myrrhis from smiling when he introduced himself and asked who she was. ”My name is Myrrhis, though you may call me Myrrh darling.” She felt he would have trouble saying her full name, so it was with no trouble at all that she gave him the nickname she had taken years ago. She couldn't quite remember how it came about but she liked it well enough.

Looking down at him, she would catch him glance back up at the sky every so often and couldn’t stop the smile that crossed her muzzle. It had been quite some time since she had been around a child this young and even though she would have to return him eventually, it would be enjoyable to spend some time with the young pup. Besides, she couldn’t leave him alone for too long. He wouldn't survive. ”So Deacon, what do you think of the shooting stars?”

Deacon

Deacon was only more joyed when she curled around him. He liked this woman! She reminded him of mother in a way. Keeping him warm, talking to him, gentle and caring. Closing his eyes for a few moments he was in a state of dreaming and consciousness. As the woman, now known as Myrrh, spoke her name he made sure to open his eyes all the way. Wanting to try saying her name he was quick to open his mouth and try. "Mrrrrh. It didn't sound quite right but right but the boy was a bit to tired to actually try and correct himself. "Mrrrh! Mrrrh!" He held a proud look on his face as he looked up to Mrrrh as a son would look to their mother.

Resting his head on his paws he looked out to the land in front of them. "Purdy an' fas!" It was his little way of trying to say they were pretty and fast moving. Like any child might he dreamed if he could move that fast or if he could become a shooting star. They sure were pretty, or so Deacon liked to think they were.

The boy's tiredness only grew with each moment. His eye lids heavy and breathing slowing down. An occasional yawn would slip from his mouth as he looked between Mrrrh and the shooting stars. Feeling his stomach even give a tiny rumble he scrunched his face up. Raising his head to try and give Mrrrh a lick on her face. After that was down he went back to setting his head down. Closing his eyes he waited a few moments before trying to speak again. "We go home?" He didn't feel like moving any more but with tiredness, coldness, and hunger gnawing at him he wanted to go home and eat, sleep and get warm.

The motherly healer laughed lightly at Deacon's attempt to say her name, along with the lick to her cheek and she didn't have have the heart to correct him for it. He was young. He would learn to speak properly in time, with the help of his family. The smile that was on her face at the thought of the boy's family. Where was his family? They must be all asleep at this point in time which would explain why and how he made it so far without being noticed.

Distracted from her thoughts when he asked to be taken home, Myrrhis frowned. Oh dear. She had no idea where the young boy lived, so the only home she could take him to was her own. Yet with the small rumblings from his stomach and his yawns, he would need someone to watch over him carefully. But as she considered this, there was a thought about her leaders. What would she tell them? That she found the young pup and not knowing where he lived, took him back with her to keep him safe until his home could be found? It was the only excuse that sounded reasonable.

”Yes Sweetie, we’ll go home. But why don’t we have a nap first?” She soothed, thinking that she could carry him while he slept. ”I’ll carry you home alright? That way you won’t get tired and by the time we get there, you’ll be somewhere nice and safe.”he didn’t have the heart to tell him she wasn’t part of his pack.

Hearing he was gonna go home was one great thing. But hearing he was able to nap was the best thing ever. Deacon wasn't sure if he could hold open his eyes anymore so it was relief when he was able to nap. Nodding slowly he agreed with her plan. "Okay..." His tired voice trailed off as he left himself fully relax now. Everything seemingly silent around him except for the raindrops, but those weren't enough to hold the boy back from sleeping. He would enjoy his nap while he could.

Before he was fully asleep Deacon had one last thing to whisper to Miss Mrrrh. "You make mum an' dad no I safe?" His scrambled words lost in his puppy mind. As long as Mrrh could understand what he was trying to say the Ride prince was happy with himself and the female he had claimed a friend and caretaker. Before he would be able to understand what she would say his eyes were closed tightly with his mind floating off into child dreams. One could only guess what such a boy would be dreaming of anyways.

Myrrhis' heart clenched at his words. Let his parents know he was safe? How could she do that if she didn't even know where the young pup was from? But she couldn't tell him that so she nodded and gently placed a whiskers kiss on the top of his head as he drifted off to sleep.

"I promise, I will tell your mom and dad that you are safe. They will be happy to see you again." At least that last part was true. His parents would be happy to see him. In fact, they would be beyond ecstatic to see their young boy again! Yet as she shifted around to stand up, making sure not to wake the boy up as he slept, she still felt guilty for taking him. Surely his family was not far away? But she couldn't leave him by himself and she needed to head back to her own pack. She'd forever regret it if she left him without knowing he was safe.

Leaning down, she took him by the scruff of his neck and and lifting him up, begun the trek towards her home. Hopefully, her leaders would understand why she had brought the pup back with her and even more so, hopes that Deacon's parents could be found and he could be returned with a little fuss as possible.
