They were named -- it felt surreal, as she stared at the three nestling cubs against her side. Aleksei, Orren and Karina -- they were perfection, and she had to swallow the surge of emotion that threatened to overwhelm her in that very moment.

Maksim shifted back then, and for a tiny fraction of a second, the tawny women felt she could have been lulled to the world of sleep before she heard Lachesis shuffle in. Blinking tiredly, she refrained from stiffening -- the healer was here to look after her, and he posed no threat to the pups, despite every nerve in her body fighting the nature of any visitors.

He nudged something to her, and her eyes blinked tiredly down to it. She looked at the berries, feeling a small smile pull at her lips. She certainly wouldn't have trouble sleeping, but to ease the pain? Such a thing would be too wonderful. "Thank you, Lachesis," she murmured, lowering her muzzle now to one outstretched paw. She felt a sense of pride as he looked upon the pack's new life, and as she watched him go, she gave a content sigh. Maksim would likely stay just outside the confines of the den, keeping careful watch over his family -- never could she imagine him stealing away and abandoning his children the way her father had his. "You three are very lucky to have such a wonderful family," she murmured, her tongue sweeping across each in a loving kiss before she settled back once more, this time allowing the fatigue to overtake her to a world where dreams occurred, but even the tiniest shuffle at her side would stir her eyes to snap awake.

Thus was the life of a parent, it would seem, and she wondered briefly how her mother had done it before sleep took her once more.
