Random Event:There is a meteor shower tonight.
A quiet rustle in the grass could be heard as a herd of deer meandered through the lush grass of Hush Meadow, their black noses nuzzling the succulent dew coated grass of the early morning while their small lips tore the blades of grass only to be ground down to a paste. Occasionally you could see a couple of the does and the reigning supreme buck; protector and leader of the group just reaching the middle of his prime, raise their heads and scan the landscape around them, ever on alert for signs of potential danger. With a reassuring twitch of their coal colored noses, the heads would lower back down to continue their morning grazing. It was unaware to them, though, that among the shrubs and shadows of the last looming trees before giving birth to the meadow, a lone shape of darker mass had its keen vision trained on the oblivious herd. Waiting, watching silently for the perfect opportunity. With a small ripple of muscles the form crept inches forward and slightly out of the brush, being cautious with each step to avoid giving away its presence. The rays of sun that managed to break free of the overhanging branches and partly cloudy sky above illuminated the once dark mass, revealing the creature to be that of a bi colored wolf. A female timber wolf to be more exact in her early fourth year of life. Her pelt consisted mainly of a dark black color with small areas of white adorned in various parts of her body. Another doe raised her head to scan the area, the wolf's body freezing in hopes of remaining undetected as the deer gazed directly in her general area. Time seemed to stop as the doe kept her small black orbs focused on the treeline, her body on full alert before sounding the dreadful call of danger. That call was the worst sound a predator could hear. It was the sound of your prey scurrying for their life and the sound of time slipping between your paws before the hunt became either a success or another potentially missed meal, which in this case was exactly not what Enoki needed. The distance between her and the herd was too great still to make a quick kill and the female knew this. Time was of the essence. With a mighty bound from under the cover of trees the hunt was on as the bi colored female let the pads of her paws clash with dirt in quick fashion. Her body moved in full, fluid strides to close the distance between the fleeing herd and herself, amber orbs focused on her target. Near the back of the herd a straggling doe had become separated from the herd in the panic and now made its way towards the treeline in an attempt to escape danger. Wrong move. Enoki's chest heaved heavily throughout the chase, given her body was not in the best of conditions for a highly active hunt like this had become. Ten feet...seven feet..five feet.. The gap gradually became less and less, but so did the distance between the doe and a chance at living another day. Feeling her strength start to dwindle in exhaustion, she gave one last surge of energy to finally close to gap. Four feet..three feet...two feet..CRUNCH. Canines met the vulnerable flesh of the does neck in a full force impact, dragging the already weakened doe to the ground. With repeated bleats, the doe struggled for freedom, but the deadly bite had already began to take its toll. Keeping her jaws sunken in the flesh of her neck, Enoki clamped down tighter to restrict the flow of air in an attempt to make the kill quicker. Within minutes the deer's struggles became weaker and weaker until finally succumbed to her fate. Once feeling the last bit of air leave, Enoki finally released her vice like grip on her kill and used her tongue to free her mouth of the deer hairs caught within. Panting heavily with exhaustion, the female wolf lolled her tongue between parted jaws to catch her breath. Pride swelled insider her from her accomplishment and finally a successful kill and a much needed meal until the rumble of her stomach interrupted her special moment, screaming at Enoki to end the hunger that it felt. Without hesitation, she rose back to her feet and moved towards the stomach where the carcass was easiest to open. Letting fangs meet flesh once more, she tightened the muscles in her neck as she tugged backwards to tear a hole, exposing the innards as they tumbled free from the body along with the crimson liquid that once provided life. |
