Borden Lyall
Halloween Event: In the early morning fog, you see strange figures in the mist.

I thought it was your lips I had kissed
borden lyall
but it had only been your ghost in the mist

Since coming into the wolves of Whisper Caverns and being reunited with his children - Bishop and Rook - Borden had been having severe flashbacks and instances of fleeting memories that were no longer intact. In the hours of the morning just before dawn, when the lands of Relic Lore were still covered in chilled dew and blanketed with a thick curtains of of fog, he had been called from his sleep to the reaches of mead. His visible shivered, twitching just enough as to make the very tips of his russet ears vibrate as though the air were rife with the sounds of a busy morning; and, yet, no birds sang... no squirrels chattered, and no other wolves seemed to bark or howl their morning news to one another.

Trembling as he went, the Lyall patriarch stepped forward from the forest and out into the open air where there was nothing but the grass at his feet and no more than a 10 feet radius from him in any direction. His tail lifted inquisitively but the silence pressed against his ears. He supposed this was the very reason why this place was Hush Meadow. Forcing himself to blink his eyes and seeing what he could with his good eye, he squinted into the mist, and what he saw before his very eyes made his heart leap.

A pale wolf with striking white fur that easily blended into the muted grays of the fog. In his head, she giggled and barked at him. When he closed his eyes and tipped his head back, he heard and felt her prance up to him, rubbing her fur against his throat and side before dancing away. His breath was stolen away and it seemed that that was not the only thing that she had taken. His teeth chattered and he stumbled after her, ultimately falling flat on the ground with his chin in the cold grass. "Wait..."

He panted as he struggled to right himself, with his left paw giving way beneath him twice before he was able to sit up properly. A chill wracked his bulky frame and when he finally came to his senses, he winced with a shake of his head. He was alone... or so he thought. The fur at the back of his neck rose and he closed his eyes tight; he could feel someone's breath at the base of his right ear. He swallowed. She might not have been there in actuality, but in the prison of his mind, he was finally being confronted by yet another demon he had not laid to rest. Under his breath he pleaded, "I can't, Vlarindara. Please... please, leave."

When his pale eyes came to face the waking world again, he reclined forward and slicked his ears back, fearfully staring into a number of silhouettes in the mist. He tried to count them all but eventually lost count as he turned his head about from one side to the other to take them in. Had he not been so sick, he might not have panicked with a ear-splitting yowl, "Jaysyek... Jaysyek, help!"

Look what we've become. I don't even care. I really need you.

The list of her certainties seemed to change like the weather. Nothing a true form of solidarity untouched. What she thought she knew was not quite so any more. This merely was the way of life. The ups, and downs, twists and turns she was still learning to take one at a time. With some clues, she went on her way, confident steady in her stride. The once white queen was keeping faith she would soon find him. Mostly, she listened to the quiet murmurs of her heart. It was pulling her south through the crisp morning.

Once, she may have questioned the tug, that "sixth sense". The last thing she wanted to do was be in the cold, heading toward a thick mist at the break of day. So far her heart had not let her down, and she went, trying to hear through the quiet. Keeping a sharp eye out for her beloved.

It seemed a long stretch of nothing, if she was hardly moving at all. Then the taste of the Marsh was on her mouth, and eventually the figures of the drooping willows stood out as a beacon in the sea of fog. For a second she pondered if she would be heading to the Ridge, that did not seem right. Was it Whisper Caverns themselves? That seemed to be more likely, that was where he should be. Jayse did not entirely realize how she would get there herself. Never had been there, and never been good at recalling direction properly. It seemed they got sucked out of her head the instant they were put in. Tugging in a long breath, the pale lady tilted her crown west, then east. Apparently she should go west. A sway of her tail to rid her nerves, with pinch of reluctance she padded deeper into the haze, trying not to hold her breath. This air made her throat feel prickly, and bits of her joints ache. It was simply too quiet. If silence could roar this was surely what it was. The sway of grass, the shift of her limbs began to stand out. This did not make her feel much better, because she thought there were whispers. Was she hearing someone or conjuring it from thin air?

About to give up, and find her way out of this there did seem to be a voice. The clarity of it was far from great, but it became her guide. Where else was there to aim for?

The long legged lady walked, a blurry figure in the distance eventually became the outline of a wolf. One she was reaching head on, and yes! She could not mistake the cut of his mask any where. It was evident as she would hold his name on the tip of her tongue, something was wrong. It was moments like this, she felt her heart wanted to lodge itself in her throat. Should she reach for him, it could set him into a terrible fit. Yet, it was painful being on the sidelines, a worthless spectator. The pale lady stood, torn on how to reach her mate, when the cry for help sounded, she could bare it no longer. "Shhh," softly hushed to bring comfort. "I'm here Borden, everything is gonna be alright." This she said for both their sakes, while cautiously she drew closer, wondering if he really saw her.

Before he could even comprehend what had happened before his very eyes, with the swirling mist playing with his already helpless mind, one of these misty wolves approached him. "Shhh," she had hushed him and immediately Borden flinched away, backing up as he cowered and whimpered. She drew closer to him and as he trembled and shook, his eyes averted. It was as though he were one of those foldable tables his legs knees and elbows buckled beneath him. If he could have had it his way, he would have liked to curl up and simply vanish from the world rather than be subject to torture such as this.

Something in her voice - especially how she had said his name in that very soothing sort of tone - made his ears come up. He could not bring himself to look at her. At least, not yet. "Jaysyek?" he murmured, staring off into the distance from where he had thought he had seen the Windrunner's lithe and elusive figure in the mist. The mask on his face, had it been an actual article of clothing, looked like it could have been easily pulled over his eyes by how narrow his eyes had become. The uncertainty was unnerving and he wondered now what he had done to get himself so lost. Again.

"Jays-yek?" he tried again, his tone wavering now as he turned to face the mist-shrouded woman near him. For what seemed like a long while, he stared into her face, confusion more than prevalent in his eyes and in the downward angles of the corners of his mouth. The fog seemed to close in on them from across the meadow, pressing up against his left side before engulfing them completely so that all he could see was the faint traces of her silhouette against an unblemished curtain of gray.

A lightbulb in the depths of his mind lit up, but instead of thinking of calling for his son, whom he knew was certain to be lurking somewhere about with the pack they were staying with, he asked the first question that had come to the forefront of his brain, "Are you real?"

Canines jutted into the edge of her lip. The greatness of her patience, demanding to break. Pale wolf loathed seeing his figure, literally crumble to the ground. Borden didn't belong on the ground. The lady held herself still. Unmatched eyes holding a glimmer of hope, searching for that remembrance to ignite. Even a small flame of what had been. It was all she needed.

It was not any sudden turn, bringing him fully to her. Again, his voice found her name, breaking through the fog faintly. The simplicity, at least he was able to keep some piece of her tugged at her heart. Because his gold-green swirled irises were not looking upon her, he was likely still out of reach. For a pessimist she was rather optimistic. Crown snapped in the distance, but there was only a curtain created by the silver cloud that had seemed to settle upon them.

When the man seemed to be trying in his own way, searching for her, a smile wished to reveal itself, but Jayse held it back. All she could do was gently look upon him in turn, waiting. There was no magic spell, or quick trick. The fog began to cloak them if it had a fierce need to keep them apart, and he questioned her. Was she really here after all? It seemed like a wisp of a dream.

"I'm as real as you," she steadily replied, knowing this might not be the clear answer he sought. When did she ever have the "right" answer to anything? "Is that what makes you afraid? "
