Vespertio Vuesain

"Oh? Go on.." The tawny man mused. Rounded audits focusing forward to listen attentively to what it was Des was about to ask as haunches reclined his frame into a seated position. Unknowing of how long exactly this may take, but he would give the woman the time she requested of him. As leader it was part of his duties to see to his subordinates and their whims. Steadily holding his golden gaze over her slim frame he listened as she began to speak of training for the role of scout. Wanting nothing more than to have a job and be of proper use to the pack while also following orders from Namid to seek him out. Which turned out to be the second reasoning for her beckoning. A gentle smile pulling back the corners of his lips.

"So you want to become a scout, huh? I'm pleased to hear you wish to strive for more within the pack. In order to become a scout you must know the layout of the pack territory and the surrounding areas like the back of your paw. Namid was right in instructing you to do so." Pausing briefly to give Des time to absorb what he was saying, he then continued. Shifting the weight on his front paws subtly. "As for task I have some in mind that will help in your road to becoming a proper scout. I'd like you to assist Anthem and myself in patrolling the borders. Now that our lead female is den ridden with the pups an extra set of paws would help immensely." Of course there were other members that helped out when they could, but the yearlings meddled more with their herbal remedies and tending to the recovering mother. Angele often out on hunting trips with Anthem when he wasn't patrolling borders and very little was seen of the white coated woman these days. Something that itched at his fur. Vespertio knew she hadn't left under the cover of darkness. Her pungent aroma still faint, but present within the borders. Indicating she was still a member.

"Once I and Namid feel you have mastered this task I'd like you to make due in keeping yourself fit. Able at all times wither it be to run errands, answer commands or deliver messages to other packs should either of your leaders call upon you. Do all of these things and you should earn your title in no time." And that was all he could offer the woman. These were the primary duties of a scout and if she could prove she could perform them with flying colors the title of scout would one day be hers. A title rightfully earned just as Anthem had rightfully earned his rank as guardian. The agouti man hadn't spent much time with the lighter wolf, but in time it would be proven if she was truth worthy enough. The greatest task of a scout was just that. Earning the trust of one if not both leading wolves.

Desideria Barreda
Desideria nodded eagerly, her ears pressed forward as she captured every word that fell from the alpha's maw. Delight was evident in her pale orange eyes, as was a certain degree of astonishment flickering in the background. It almost felt like an unreality that she might awake from if she so much as breathed too hard – the king was being kind, and patient, and even encouraging of her desire to do better by the pack. It was absolutely absurd…but perhaps she shouldn't have been so apprehensive, knowing Namid like she did. Her friend was generous and honest – she would never send her to Vespertio if the male meant to tear her down or chase her about.

A sigh she didn't realize she was holding escaped her lips as the slender femme bobbed her head again, unaware her tail began to drift in a lazy wag behind her. "Yes, yes, I can do that! I can definitely do that. I spend a lot of free time patrolling them myself, if I'm not fishing…or sleeping," she admitted sheepishly, a bit embarrassed by her own enthusiasm for the task.

Nothing the resident regal said sounded undoable, or even all that outlandish. Keep doing what she was doing, make the time to work with Vespertio himself and his right-paw man, Anthem, and begin to get in the sort of shape she used to be in – able to run for miles without becoming winded, or run overnight with only a break to drink here or there. This, she could do. This, she knew she could do.

"Thank you," she murmured, practically wiggling with joy. Before she could stop it, overwhelming emotion surged forward and the wolf found herself before her alpha, whining and licking at his chin in deference and appreciation for his wisdom. "I'll do it, I swear. I'll be a great scout – for you and Namid both."

Stepping back, inhibitions caught up with the desert dancer. If she were able to blush, she might have. Instead, she tucked her tail and nodded again, unable to wipe the smile off her face as she bid her farewell and set off to start immediately.

Exit.

Vespertio Vuesain
Set the morning after Aleister disappears to serve as a small fyi for the pack.

It was a restless night as the Vuesain family huddled together within the protection of the cavernous collection of boulders that brought forth the communal den. Golden optics refusing to move even a fraction from the canopy sheathed entrance in hopes of his eldest son, Aleister, returning for the night until sleep overpowered the king of the lake and an uncomfortable sleep blanketed his mind. Yet, as the twilight hours darkened into the silent of night and then into the sparkling rays of dawn's first light, no sign of his son's return was warranted upon the opening of his optics. Nestled at his side remained three slumbering bodies where there should have been four. The likened prince's absence striking a match to the already flammable worry of his first time father.

It was Vespertio who soothed the worried queen with speak of their child's abilities to find his way home. That they had taught their children well thus far and to worry not. Yet, with the coming of morning, he himself was beginning to doubt his own words. Where could his son have gotten off to? There was little time to ponder such thoughts that would surely send himself into a panic should he dwell upon them too long as creamy limbs hoisted his weight onto all fours. Careful not to disturb those still slumbering at his side. If Vespertio was in luck he could run a quick patrol of his borders in search of the lost pup or send an awakened subordinate to search beyond the borders and bring the boy back before his mother would wake. One could only imagine the worries Namid would stir up with the knowledge one of her precious brood had gone missing.

Freezing temperatures and the gradual increase of snowflakes upon the ground until nothing but white abyss filled ones sight was never fun. Especially for the regal patriarch as clouds of transparent breath billowed from flared nostrils with each exhale, golden optics watching the frost brushed trunks of sturdy pines and spruces before returning to the distant horizon where tiny divots in the snow revealed the steps of his subordinates. The occasional impression spots marking where his trio of children must have romped in the ivory flakes by the smaller sizes. At this a gentle smile adorned Vespertio's maw before a chilling breeze reminded him of what was yet to come. This was only the beginning and winter could and most likely would get a lot worse.

Turning his embodiment southward with lassitude from the cold seeping into his undercoat, agouti fur brushed past the draped leaves that hid the entrance to the communal den, a blast of welcomed warmth gracing the Vuesain's creamy cheeks. For the time being the den remained vacant. The various members of Fallen Tree Cove no doubt fulfilling their required task in preparation for the cold season, up-keeping the boarders and keeping an eye on the ever adventurous pups whom now could nearly stand shoulder to shoulder with the medium built members. Now reaching 6 months of age, the pups began to reveal their desire for independence. A partially saddening reminder to their parents that they weren't little babies anymore. Finding a secluded corner in the back of the cavernous den, Vespertio curled himself up into a partial ball, plush tail curling over his paws in an attempt to return some feeling into them. Perhaps a member would stroll in to escape the cold and offer the man a nice conversation.

Anyone want to say hi to Ernie? :)

The constant cold had started to become less fun. The snow was still a wonder; whether falling or in great drifts on the ground; some of which had grown so tall on their mountain home that travel was quite difficult in certain areas. They were wonderful for jumping in, and even better for roughhousing with his siblings. They could throw each other around with all their might, and the snow would always cushion their landings; sending powder everywhere. He couldnt recall a single time when they didn't emerge from the great drifts laughing and absolutely covered in it.

At the moment the prince was playing by himself; digging away into the lower branches of a pine now covered in the frozen flakes. He might make a little den for himself in there, or maybe find something interesting beneath the bows. Either way, snow flew from the determined digger's paws - and he was too absorbed in his work to notice anyone else who might have been in the area.

Vespertio Vuesain
Dated 1/26

The weather was cold and dreary as the accumulated cloud cover overhead trudged along the sunrise painted sky at a snail's pace. The first rays of morning light offering subtle warmth to the creamy fur of Vespertio's cheeks as he lay across the communal den's entrance, the urge to do anything his title of patriarch required minute. Yet, eventually he would have to rise to all four limbs and begin his day. It was the repetition of his task day in and day out that kept the depression over Anthem's death at bay. Surely the storm pelted man would not want the king of the lake to falter as a leader over him. That's just how Anthem was, a man whom always put others before himself.

A soft grunt escaped the agouti male's lips as he pushed off on his forelimbs to adjust to a seated position, golden irises scanning the snow blanketed land of his kingdom from as far as the iced over surface of the lake to the assortment of sturdy mountain pines littered everywhere. Most of which fell victim to the harshness of winter and lost their needle shaped leaves under the never ending powder at their feet. A puff of warm air bellowed from flared nostrils in the form of a sigh, eyelids closing briefly. Just get through today. One day at a time, old boy. His consciousness coached. It would all get better in time. Right?

Vespertio Vuesain

Dated 5/12 Partly Cloudy, early afternoon

For the first time in what felt like ages the sun had managed to finally show its brilliant face again after what felt like weeks of endless rain and muggy cloud cover. Today there were still clouds that littered the sky in tiny patches, but the lakeside patriarch could handle a few cotton balls after the weather that drenched his kingdom. Already the excess rainfall was beginning to make its effects known as a pair of molten gold irises cast their gaze outward over the rocky edge of the communal den's ceiling where Vespertio lay currently upon is throne. A thoughtful hm resonated against the back of his throat noting where the new shoreline rested, piles of collected debris and pine needles floating about the normally glass like surface in chunks.

Today, though, the surface was marred by the sky's reflection and the small grouping of grey washed clouds that held the threat of rain although the actual chance of such weather saturating the land below again seemed far from plausible. There was nothing to worry about and accepting that notion Vespertio lowered his skull to rest it upon his outstretched forelimbs to silently survey those below. An occasional smile tugging back the corner of his leathery lips spotting a subordinate on occasion coming and going about the heart like a buzzing hive of bees.

For once it seemed like the sun had finally defeated its constant adversary of storm clouds and rain, rays of sunlight filtering their way through the gaps in pine needles overhead in order to now warm the patriarch's lax body sprawled out just outside the communal den's entrance. Lids closed yet far from a state of slumber a sense of true relaxation flooded his veins for once knowing there was no rampaging wild animal running amuck within his territory that demanded his attention, his youngest children preoccupied in a game of wrestling, or tag just ahead of their sire by the sound of their laughter and attempts at sounding fearsome with their tiny growls.

Occasionally the male would sneak a peek through a single opened eye to ensure his children were safe, the corner of his lips curling into a smile each time his line of sight was greeted with their tussling forms. Assured with what he saw the single lid would then close once more, a yawn splitting his lips as the increased warmth to his pelt began to lure the lakeside king temptingly into a cat nap. A time or two he contemplated it until another yip or bark from his daughters roused the man before the dreaming stage could begin, chuckling as he pushed the idea of napping aside. Lifting his head from his outstretched paws, another yawn broke the lining of his lips before Vesper opened his eyes, content to lay there comfortably as he watched the girls play. This time a game of tug-o-war using an old piece of deer hide was chosen.

Kajika Tallis

Winter was coming which had become clear more and more clear as it seemed colder each morning when Kajika left the den. He had been spending more time hunting and patrolling. His spirits had gone down considerably with the disappearance of Moonshadow, he wondered what had happened with her. Thinking about it just reminded him of what had happened with Des which often led to him pushing it out of his mind. Trying to keep his mind off all that seemed to be going wrong and his worries about the winter had become a full time endeavor.

As he stepped out of the den on that crisp morning he stopped momentarily to stretch his muscles. Sitting back on his haunches he observed the activities that were going on around him. Usually he was up before the rest of the pack but this morning he had slept a little later which seemed much needed. He felt a little less tired than he usually did. Glancing up at the sky to see where the sun was positioned, he knew that he had to get a move on. There was so much to do as there always was and he couldn't afford to waste more time. So with one last glance across the clearing he stood and made his way to the lake before he would head out to patrol the borders.

Vespertio Vuesain
Set for 11/21

Vespertio had just returned from a border patrol with nothing of interest yet again. Markers were doused in a fresh coat of piss to ward of unwanted travelers and wildlife that had no business sniffing about his kingdom. Deer herds still acting ridiculously brash with not giving a hoot as to the presence of their number one predator. Everything seemed quiet and part of him was actually glad for that considering their adventurous summer with the local wildlife barging in and causing a world of chaos, but a piece of the agouti male still knew they needed more wolves to join their cause if they wanted to keep their claim on these lands. Fallen Tree Cove numbers had remained stable for lack of a better term, but how long would that last? Winter was certainly going to be harsh and a rough one like it seemed to always be. Oh, he hoped the pack as a whole would come to thrive here. If not, it was no secret to himself that Vespertio had contemplated the idea of packing up and relocating to a more sustainable location.

Tawny frame plopped down unceremoniously upon the top of the communal den after using the fallen tree against its side like a ladder, a small cloud of collected snowflakes spurting out in each direction in response to his bulk claiming the area for himself. Now that he was considering himself off the clock for the time being, perhaps he could sneak in a quick cat nap before someone or something disturbed him.
