Vespertio Vuesain
Fallen Tree Cove, a lynx has crossed your pack borders. Round 1: Ends 9/24 - I figure the pups can pop in if they'd like this round and be chauffeured by a volunteer subordinate back to the den or sent to a member that hasn't posted this round who could be said to be at the den sight for the next round to get points. @Namid @Anthem @Tagg @Angele @Desideria @Nathaniel @Aleister @Neha @Cernan @Kajika @Pharika @Hemlock

Patchy light rain 51 ° F, 11 ° C || September 19th || Evening, sun just starting to set.

Creamy limbs traversed in near silence as they crossed over the water logged bedding of fallen pine needles and various other vegetation, the air holding a pleasant aroma of a sweet, pungent zing of freshness within Vespertio's nostrils. Each press of his pads into the debris helping to release the petrichor from the collection of decomposing plant life and animal matter. An enjoyable scent that had the king of the lake taking in more deep breaths than necessary for his daily task of giving the borders a patrol to retain their potency in warding off unwanted strangers and predators. The same act he now indulged in as his paws came to a halt near a sturdy mountain pine, golden filled irises studying the rough overlapping layers of bark dotted with sparse groups of moss and indications of former arachnid inhabitants. Pearl like beads of captured rain drops sparkling under the dying rays of sunlight upon the strands of abandoned spider webbing.

How miraculous and fascinating the world was after a purifying rain when one took the time to pause and enjoy it. Took time to notice the small things so easily overlooked. A visible cloud of breath expelled from Vespertio's lips into the chilled air as once filled lungs deflated to exhale in the form of a deep breath, the small action rippling the tendrils of spider silk whom had the weakest grip upon the surface of the pine's trunk. As much as the Vuesain would have liked to indulge more in the beautiful nature around him, there was more border fencing to bathe in his masculine cologne. Lifting a rear leg, a stream of urine doused the base of the tree in his dominate odor, a far more pungent smell than that the hardwood held. Once rear paw touched the damp earth below, rust tinged ears pivoted forward as creamy limbs set into motion carrying the patriarch to the next marker needing his tending. Albeit, arrival to the next marker left lackadaisical thoughts to be cast away upon the sight of feline claw marks scarring the surface of the pine.

Instantly guard hairs rose to stand upright with unease while a cream licked snout jutted forward to inhale at the marks for clues about their maker. By the freshness of them their owner, a lynx by the distinct aroma, couldn't be far. An hour at most into his territory. A low rumble reverberated within the confines of his chest behind clenched jaws at the notion of a predator daring to set foot into his kingdom. The thunderous rumbling soon dying as panic and realization set in. The pups were in danger. A million different scenarios involving the feline and his children played like a motion picture across the forefront of Vesper's mind, eardrums filling with the rush of blood from his erratic beating heart. Cranium then tilted skyward toward the evening light to let loose a distressing howl from adrenaline tightened vocal chords to send warning to the pack of their intruder. Ebony tinted claws wasted no time tearing haphazardly at the soil beneath them leaving tiny scores within the mud as they aimed for the heart of the territory where his family hopefully would be unscathed, ears pinned to the plush fur lining the back of his skull. No feline was going to set a retractable claw on his property or family and live to tell the tale.

Tagg Eastfall

Tagg was aimlessly wandering about the territory, thinking about nothing in particular as he roamed. He wasn’t paying attention to where he was going; he was in pack territory; what was the worst that could happen?

Fate just loved to prove him wrong.

A pungent odor all but slapped him in the face, drawing him to a halt.  The very smell brought his hackles to a stand and his head whipped about, desperately making sure the area was clear.  He was near the pack border; perhaps the scent had drifted in on the breeze.  Still, something didn’t seem right.  As he turned to head towards the border, something caught his single eye.

A paw print, pressed into the recently damp soil.

“ @Vespertio !” He cried, every fiber of his body taught with sudden stress.  “Vespertio!”  He wasn’t sure where to go.  Should he go towards the border to double check it, towards the den to protect the pups, or follow the tracks and the scent to catch the feline that had invaded their home?  “Vespertio!” I called for his alpha one last time, hoping the matriarch would note the distress in his voice and hurry.

Tagg stood torn, stance wide as he vacillated over which way to turn.  He trembled, heart pounding with exhilarating fury as he remained frozen by indecision.

Pharika Idasis
Pharika brings herself along, the day normal as usual. Her massive figure descends from a large rock jutting out from the ridges. The light rain had put her in a good mood; she always enjoyed it. The blazing ball of heat in the sky was just beginning to settle for the night, to allow for the Earth to cool down. The damp odor of the soil and moss around her relaxed her. She had been rather bored today, her mind a blank slate waiting to be written on. It seemed that tonight was the night that her boredom would be eradicated for some time. Pharika's dark ears perk intently as a distressed howl pierces through the cooling air. Head jerking upward, the dark woman grunts in irritation "Well, shit." Curious as to what was going on, she takes off, her large paws tearing up the moist soil as she does so.

Muscles ripple under her thick feathery coat as she hones in on where the howl originated from. As she runs, a voice captures her attention. "Vespertio!" It cries aloud, twice. Pharika's head jerks to her right, where she spots the wolf standing. Eyes narrowing in annoyance, she turns toward him, her feet still carrying her quickly. Within twenty yards of him, an odor smacks her straight in the face. Another lynx? She had run into one with a wolf named Kenelm a few weeks ago. Her muzzle twists in irritation. Skidding to a halt, she parts her jaws toward the other wolf "Quiet. We don't need to alert the lynx any more." Her voice is unintentionally a hiss; she wanted to get to their alpha as soon as possible.

Without a second glance at her packmate, she speaks once more "Let's go." After these words, she continues her hustle, making her way toward the alpha within minutes. Coming to a slow, she dips her head respectively. "Running it out or killing it?" She asks, ready to get into the action right away.

Kajika Tallis

After spending most of his morning hunting Kajika had decided to spend his afternoon lazing in the sun.  He thought it well deserved after having managed to add a rabbit and a few pheasants to the cache.  He was awoken when he didn’t feel the warmth of the sun’s rays on his fur any longer and knew that evening was to be upon Fallen Tree Cove soon.  Deciding he had laid about long enough he decided to head down to the lake for a cool drink of water before settling down for the night.

However he’d only made it a few steps when the sound of his Alpha’s troubled call reached his ears which swiveled on top of his head to hear it.  He didn’t need to be called twice and immediately was in motion heading in the direction the call had come from.  The thought that ran through his head as he bounded through the forest and leaping over fallen trees was that this was his chance to prove that he was willing to help his pack any way he could.

When he finally reached Vespertio’s side the scent of lynx hit him fully and he knew why the call had been sounded.  As surprising as it was his first thought with his new knowledge was that the pups could be in danger.  “I’m here to help anyway I can,” he told his alpha with a bow of his head.

Vespertio Vuesain
Round 2: Ends 9/30 This round should go by fast as it will consist of them finding the lynx. The last round will consist of them cornering and killing/chasing the lynx off. No posting order. @Tagg @Pharika @Kajika

The warning call by their commander didn't echo unheard for long before the first soldiers in his army arrived to the front line, bringing the agouti man to a halt to intercept their paths. First to arrive was the tattered man, Tagg, whom had a second and the newest addition to the pack following near his flank. Shortly after it was Kajika that appeared from behind the dense expanse of pine trees to join the rally and soon to be hunting party. A nod of greeting was given to each gathered, a twinge of pride briefly pushing down the parental worry that filled his veins at seeing the two newest subordinates eager to defend their pack. Vespertio had no inkling to whom this new female was; yet to properly meet the grey furred woman, but that would change soon enough.

Scanning his golden gaze over the trio of faces before him, black licked tail curling and lashing at his rump. "No feline is going to cross into our home and live to tell the tail. I'd like to see this lynx's fur on the floor of the communal den." Slowly the worry began to ebb away, replaced more and more with strength and confidence after each syllable that fell from the Vuesain's swarthy lips. Switching his gaze to glance toward the heart of the territory, lips pursed for a quick second. It was hard to say if any more from the pack would heed his call, but surely four wolves would be more than capable of finding and bringing down their trespasser.

Turning his attention back to Tagg, Pharika and Kajika fur bristled in anticipation of having the damn cat between his jaws. "I'm sure you all can smell the stench of it on the air despite the coming rain. We must move quickly and quietly before it dares to discover the pups." The first thing they would need to do is gather a general idea of which direction of travel it was taking and then pursue it. Once cornered they could take turns baiting it for the kill or chase it off their lands for good. Whichever came first. There was no time to waste as nose pressed to the ground, inhaling the fragrance of the feline deeply into his lungs and smell receptors while ghosting over the lingering trail toward exactly where he feared. Towards the heart of his kingdom and the pups.

Pharika Idasis
Pharika feels her skin prickle at the talk of the lynx. The intruder. Her chestnut eyes remain on Vespertio as he speaks. The den was to protected at all costs. The fur would make a nice den liner for the pups... The thought briefly crosses her mind, and she holds back an amused smirk. Her muscles tense, almost beginning trepidation due to her anxiety. She wanted to start already. Suddenly, she shrugs her shoulders, speaking toward her leader "I do believe that the scent is most fresh from where him and I came from." As Rika says him, she points her muzzle briefly to Tagg. There wasn't much time for formalities with the current situation at hand. She just wanted to get moving- to feel the hunt, the chase.

It excited her knowing that their prey could fight back. Four wolves against one lynx seemed to put the odds in their favor, but Pharika never liked to get too hasty. Her breathing remains steady as she awaits her leader to command them. The dark furred woman lifts her nose upward, scenting the air. A small breeze carries the odor of the feline from the direction in which Rika just came. Bringing her head down abruptly, the gruff woman emits a small growl. Her tail, still low in respect for Vespertio, stiffens as her hackles attempt to rise. Keeping her cool, the woman paces a bit toward the direction of the scent, turning her head to look at her peers.

Pharika had just realized she was the only woman. This almost made her feel more comfortable. She'd always had difficult socializing well with others of the same gender, less they were a bit rough around the edges like herself. After this whole ordeal was over, she would try and get to know her fellow packmates. It was her new family, after all. A spark of memory flashes through her mind as she momentarily ponders about her mother. Dumb braud. Pharika, though exiled, had wanted desperately to start a new life... and, well, here she was.

Kajika Tallis

It surprised Kajika a little that the safety of the pups was one of the first things that had come to his mind.  It was something that he felt truly made him a pack wolf especially after he had been a little worried about the adjustment.  Something else that had caught his notice was the new female in that he did not remember from their last meeting and  he thought that perhaps once the matter of the Lynx had been taken care of he should take the time to at least introduce himself.  As it was they had more important things to deal with and he was there to help his alpha protect his offspring as well as show him that he had Kajika’s support.

Kajika nodded at his Alpha’s words as he spoke them as he agreed with him.  It was their home that the feline had crossed into and the creature had to pay for its choice in doing so.  He did not feel the animal had any good intent by crossing their borders and so it either needed to be taught a lesson or they needed to make sure that it would never have the opportunity to cross their borders again.  Once the new female had spoken Kajika also supplied, “I did not smell it till I was nearly here,” which would mean that it was most likely not in the direction that h he had come.

Once they figured out the direction that the Lynx had gone it would only be a matter of time till they found the creature and dispatched it.  Then their lands would be safe once more and they could get back to business as usual.  The truth was Kajika wasn’t a fan of conflict though he didn’t back down from it if necessary he was always glad when it was over with.

Vespertio Vuesain
Round 3: We will taunt the lynx in this round, each member taking a turn at nipping at feet and such from behind while another member distracts to tire out the cat before killing it. I will allow you to PP Vesper doing the distracting if you would like in order to have your character do some biting. Next/final round will consist of the actual killing and exits. Round ends 10/11 or when everyone post

Rust tinted audits pivoted as he allowed his subordinates to speak their pieces of information on the predator's possible location before his crown nodded. All of their words tied together in forming a picture of the lynx traveling in a northwestern pattern. Knowing this, the chance of it coming across the communal den lessened ever so slightly, but the chances were still too great for the patriarch's liking. Ghosting over the freshly laid trail of feline paw prints, leathery lips couldn't help but to raise enough to reveal the shimmery points of teeth ready to sink into the awaiting flesh. One creamy limb after the other struck the earth in Vespertio's pursuit, one ear pricked forward while the second pivoted out to the side to keep tabs on the sound of his fellow pack mates in his wake.

Golden optics focused on the moistened ground ahead while nostrils flared and flattened with each inhale and exhale of the lynx, putting the musky scent to memory. Pine needles crunched underneath heavy paws as those gathered advanced further upon the strengthening aroma of the fleeing cat, a tiny gray dot steadily growing larger on the horizon as both feline and communal den became more visible. Of course, blessed by a brilliantly disguised den by mother nature the odds of the beast actually finding the pups were greatly diminished, but Vespertio was not the type of man to gamble his family and their lives.

A few more minutes was all it took for the cat to come into full view, a single look over his shoulder to each subordinate followed by a nudge of his muzzle in a direction to surround the feline the silent cue they would need to know what to do next. Surging forward, muscles coiled and released with each hearty bound to circle in front of the lynx, a snarl erupting from behind curled lips. There was nowhere forward for the predator to go now with the patriarch blocking his path, a vicious hiss on its part as mousy brown body began to defensively hug the earth below. Pale yellow eyes darting between the gathered wolves for a hopeful exit before snapping back to the dark masked alpha's face before it, a look of flummox scattered across its delicate features. This surely would not end well for the feline.

Pharika Idasis

Finally they were on the move. Pharika
diligently follows behind her leader, her head lifting occasionally to scent the air.
The pungent scent of the lynx grew stronger and stronger by the minute. Burnished eyes
peer ahead in eagerness. The gray-brown figure of the feline enters her sight, and immediately
her memory is stirred. Her previous encounter with a lynx had been rather engaging. She and
a wolf @Kenelm had fought it to take its deer. To her, it was worth it, but to Kenelm, perhaps
not. As the group nears the feline, Pharika nods her head at Vespertio's silent commands.
Lowering her head, she begins to stalk forward, sweeping left after a few steps forth.

Within moments the confrontation began. Vespertio comes forward, intimidating the
lynx and distracting it. The feline lowers itself to the ground in fear, its golden eyes
wide as it exposes its fangs and hisses. Pharika's ears flatten tight against her skull
as she pauses, awaiting the perfect moment to accompany her leader in the encounter.
Sucking in a deep breath, she bounds forward, a deep growl rumbling from her throat.
Bronze eyes narrow hastily as she exposes her pearly fangs. Widening her jaws, she
hooks in from the side, snapping wildly at the heels of the beast. Thick claws swipe
at her as the lynx whirls, attempting to shoo off the wolves that nip at it. Tucking
her head against her chest, Pharika hears the whoosh of a heavy paw pass the
side of her face.

She had learned from her last encounter how to deal with one of these creatures. From
her previous experience, the lynx hadn't bitten much, but rather it scratched. Her limbs
had been dealt quite a few wounds, but theyhealed beautifully within the few weeks before
she had joined Fallen Tree Cove. She wouldn't allow to be scathed again by one of these
scraps of fur.

Kajika Tallis

Kajika would never admit to it out loud but he was a little nervous about facing the lynx.  He knew how dangerous they could be still now that he was part of a pack it didn’t matter how he felt.  He had a duty to his pack and his Alpha so when Vespertio took off in the direction the lynx had gone he followed.  It was time that they rid their lands of the intruder and make them safe once more.  Through the forest they went the scent of the feline growing stronger as they closed in on their query.  It was only a matter of time before they finally came into view of the cat and the time for them to defend their land against it.

Keeping his eyes on his alpha and the feline caught the instruction and moved to a position that would contribute to surrounding the lynx in an effort to keep the feline contained.  With his ears flat against his head and hackles raised he let out a threatening growl to show the lynx that like his companions he was serious in his threat.  He even went so far as to nip at the cats hock and jumping back before the cat could retaliate against him.
