Oula Whitebark
@Yvly

Oula didn't expect the woman to grovel at her paws or suddenly divulge an entire life history, but still found the curt response lacking in any substance. Oula couldn't help but wonder why the female willingly wanted to meet her pack mates, at least enough to wait around for them, but seemed entirely unwilling to actually interact with one.

With how cagey Crystal was, Oula had her doubts as to how trustworthy she could be. She couldn't help but wonder if the female was perhaps a spy, but had to rule it out. Any self respecting spy would have a plausible backstory at the ready for situations just like this. She had to figure the evasiveness was more likely the result of poor socialization or temperament.

As tempting as it was to give back a catty answer, Oula bit her tongue. Unlike a certain someone, she wasn't a poorly socialized or badly bred specimen, and at least knew how to speak a full sentence.

"I'm similarly from far to the north. I was with a regiment in Thunderfang Canyon. I hadn't planned on staying down here as long as I have been, but the woman I'd been sent to capture remains elusive." Oula said somewhat mechanically, trying to keep herself pleasantly neutral in speech and appearance despite the growing disdain for the wolf seated before her.

@Oula

Wolfy brows raised slightly at Oula's words. So she was part of a regiment and had been sent to capture a wolf down here... how... interesting. Making note to keep an eye on the grey and cream female in the future in case she tried anything, Yvly outwardly nodded her head to show she acknowledged the other's words. That meant she was dangerous, a spy, or warrior, someone who was sent on perilous missions to bring back another for... justice? She didn't know what, and didn't plan on knowing any time soon. Better to just not know and play it safe. She'd much rather not get caught between a rock and a hard place, especially when it concerned Oula. There was just something about her she didn't like very much. Maybe it was the fact that they were a little too similar for her tastes in how they conducted themselves. Or it could be that Oula just ruffled her fur too much.

The fact that the grey and cream female had already stayed longer than she intended made Yvly at least partially hopeful she would be leaving soon to go catch her target or whatnot. Unless if it meant she wanted to stay... well. That wouldn't be too bad. Then she would feel less remorse in climbing her way up the ladder to the Second position that Oula sadly, currently held. Yvly wasn't planning on taking Wacipi on for the lead role, it would just make her feel better to be in a higher up position. Especially now that she was vying for the scouting role. "How long were you planning on staying?" She asked cautiously, awaiting a snappy response or more of the mechanical tone she had been receiving. Though she probably deserved it for not being very social.

"Not long, to be honest. Certainly not as long as I have been." Oula said, relieved to finally be getting more than a couple words tossed her way. The tension was still there, but at least she wasn't talking to a rock with a pulse. Oula pointedly ignored mentioning the physical ailment that had lead her to initially staying with the pack under Merlin's medical care. Despite the healer's assurances that she wasn't the only wolf to ever come down with mange, it still seemed like a shameful disease only vermin carried.

"As soon as I had completed my mission, I was to return home. But I haven't any leads to go on for months, and as far as I know, she could already be frozen to death somewhere out there." Oula explained with a hint of frustration.

"But I've found it rather pleasant here. Slower paced, admittedly, but pleasant nonetheless." Oula admitted. Here it seemed she could be something, someone, rather than one of many, and a lowly pupsitter at that. Going back to her battalion looked less and less appealing as the days passed, the almost bucolic lifestyle of Grizzly Hollow steadily growing on her. Perhaps she was getting too soft?

@Oula

Yvly nodded. She had thought as much. Oula didn't seem to be out to make friends, and while Yvly would like to be the same she wanted to try and get more involved in the social affairs of the pack. Just, hopefully not in the bad ones. That could really bring down a wolf's reputation among pack members. A slight twist of her mouth was the only indication she had been listening to the grey and cream female's words. That was quite a morbid thought, though likely true. Survival was tough in a pack, and as a lone wolf it took a great toll. Only the strongest survived... and the smart. Mother nature could be a bitch sometimes, but she had her interests in making the greatest wolves live on through their brood.

Darn. A scowl threatened to emerge on the tawny female's face, but she pushed it back with a nonchalant expression. If Oula was intending to stay, and it seemed so from her double use of the word 'pleasant', then she was just another obstacle in her way. "It is nice here," Yvly said in a tone that was far different from what she felt inside: much more calm and pleasant. Though that was true. Veho was more than welcoming to her, even accepting her proposition for the role of scout when she was still new to the pack. She owed him much, and would gladly repay the favours he had given her. "You aiming for a role in the pack?" Yvly asked curiously, wondering if it would give way to any strengths Oula may have.

Figured I'd wrap up here, you can reply or just archive :)

"Yes, I am, actually." Oula said, pleasantly surprised that the clammy wolf was showing a shred of interest. "I'm hoping to become a guardian, it's what I was working on back home. I see no reason not to continue my training now that I'm here. A pack always needs a guardian, and as far as I can tell this pack has been without one." She said with a sniff, her nose lifting. These soft, gentle wolves needed someone to protect them.

"Speaking of, I should probably get back to my rounds." Oula said as she stood, shaking out her thick coat before leaning forward in a leisurely stretch of her limbs.

"It was nice meeting you, Crystal." She said, diplomatically if not somewhat cool. "Perhaps we might hunt together soon." She offered, doubting the invitation would ever be taken outside of a pack-wide affair, but giving it none-the-less. With that, she turned, loping off into the woods and leaving the den behind.

OOC here!

Her curiosity paid off. So Oula wanted to be a guardian, then, which probably meant she was more than skilled at defending herself. So much for the easy task of climbing up the rank ladder. She'd have to get some practice in beforehand. Veho, maybe? He always seemed willing to put himself forth for others, and she liked that about him. "Well I wish you luck in your endeavours," Yvly said in what she hoped was a pleasantly toned voice. The situation wasn't going as well as she had hoped, but it wasn't as bad as she had feared. Though it would be a while before she sought out the grey and cream female again.

"You too," Yvly said softly, more of a mumble, really, as Oula made her exit with an offer to hunt sometime soon in the future. It was a possibility, but not likely to happen. She liked hunting solo, unless if it was a pack event, then she'd work as a group. Being alone gave her more freedom to do as she pleased. It was only when Oula's form disappeared into the distance that Yvly turned with a sigh, plodding back to her own, secluded den. She had had enough socialisation for one day, and would happily keep to herself for the time being.
