RP Etiquette PSA, Fight System, and Other Updates

General Role-play Etiquette Reminder

We wanted to take a few quick moments to just give a reminder of some of our rules and role-play etiquette expectations here at Ruins of Wildwood.

Out of Character Pack Recruiting
We do not generally allow OOC pack recruitment at Ruins of Wildwood. This can be found in the Leader Guidebook that some members do not have access to, and it is also stated within our ‘Grab a Plot’ board rules at the top of that specific board. This includes:

• privately messaging people and asking them to join a pack you have, or are in
• creating a thread with the purpose of recruiting for your pack on any OOC board
• replying to an OOC/plot thread to try to recruit a character to a pack or offering your pack if a person is asking about packs
• trying to coax people to a specific pack in the chatroom

We understand that this might seem a bit strict to some of our players, so we ask that you take in to consideration that in the past, we have had new members leave the site as they felt overwhelmed or pushed in a specific direction with their character, and we have had people complain about it. If you wish to try to recruit for your pack, or the pack your character is in, we ask that you do so ICly – by jumping in to AW threads, or creating your own.

What you CAN do (and we encourage greatly!) is discuss packs in a more rounded manner, talking about current events that are happening in each one, and offer the link to the quick pack guide to anyone inquiring about RoW's packs.

We also ask that people try not to ‘down talk’ other packs. We have seen this demonstrated quite a bit in the chat lately, and any player should not have someone approach them and try to change their mind on what they might like to do for their character. 'Down talk' includes talking about how a certain pack might disband, so isn't worth joining (generally, disbanding packs require extra members NOT to disband), judging a pack's activity level, etc. Casting aspersions on other packs and discouraging members from joining them only hurts the game as the pack in question might then not be able to get that one extra member they needed, etc. Please be considerate to your fellow role-players. They're fond of their pack too, and unless involved in a plot, generally want to see it thrive just as much as you want to see yours thrive.

Godmodding, Powerplaying and Metagaming
There have been some rising concerns regarding some of the recent role-playing that has been occurring at Ruins of Wildwood. While we do not believe any of it has been done maliciously, or necessarily on purpose, we would like to direct all of our members to read this guide on what is considered ‘bad roleplay.’

These types of behaviors can break the immersion of the game for many of your fellow role-players and can take away from their joy of what this game is about.  We ask that you familiarize yourself with these terms, and in the future, try to keep this article in mind.

Moving forward, if staff become aware of these types of behaviors, we will contact members directly to discuss with them. If you have any concerns or questions regarding any of this, please do not hesitate to contact us.

We have a truly amazing community here, and we want to maintain an environment that ALL of our members can enjoy. Thank you for your time!

Fight System

It has been several months in the making, but we are excited to announce that we now have a new guide to the fight system (click to read). Thanks to several members' contributions, and special thanks to Sarah (@Sahalie) for compiling it all, this new guide is meant to explain the basics of the fighting system in an easy to understand manner. If you're interested in the math that goes into calculating your character's stats, all that information is also available at the bottom of the article.

Speaking of stats, we have made an adjustment to how your character's skill is calculated to give that category more weight than it had before. We've also decided to get rid of the pack bonus, since most pack wolves have larger total LP numbers than lone wolves. Likewise, we've also removed the bonuses that are affected by age. We've also simplified the size modifier. From now on, all small wolves get +3 DEF, medium wolves get +3 ATK, and large wolves get +3 DMG. Finally, instead of rolling a d10 initially, we will now be rolling a d15.

As always, the fight system is a system that is actively being developed and improved upon. So if you have any other suggestions for it, please let us know!

Activity Rules Update/Notice

Earlier this spring, we added a new rule to our Activity Guidelines. Based on community feedback, we determined that in threads with more than 3 characters, a character who is on absence can be skipped. We've updated this to reflect that there should be a week's grace period included in this. For example, if Bob, Joe, and Sally are in a thread together, and Bob goes on absence, it is courteous for Joe & Sally to give Bob a week to reply to the thread. After that week is up, then Joe & Sally are free to continuing replying. As always, when in doubt, we encourage you to reach out and communicate to your fellow RPers in a situation like this.

Slack Chat Poll

Please see this thread to participate in our poll as to whether or not we will keep using slack as our chat system.

BWP: A Plague of Peccary

It's been fun seeing what those destructive boars have gotten up to, but with summer fast approaching and packs becoming increasingly territorial now that there's puppies around, the boars have decided to withdraw back to their mother's nest and leave Relic Lore alone. Perhaps they'll be back in the future, but for now, we're bidding our peccary friends adieu. Staff will be working on finishing up existing BWP threads, but we will not be creating any new ones. Thank you to everybody who participated! We are in the process of creating a ribbon to commemorate the BWP, so if you've participated, keep your eyes peeled for that so you can add it to your collection.
