Her old bones creaked and ached as she walked, her eyes squinting
slightly as she glanced up at night sky above her.as she tried to take in the stars. Alas, her eyes failed her, like they had been lately, in picking up the small pinpricks of light. She couldn’t blame it on anything but old age and even then, she couldn’t do much about. Wolves got old, animals got old and things started to fail. Eyesight, hearing, even her bones ached.

The old wolf sighed heavily, deciding that it would be time soon for her. She didn’t know when but the feeling was deep within her. It was known that she only had a few months before she would say goodbye to this world. She just hoped she would get to see her children again before then.

However, she was thankful her sense of smell was still there sharp as ever. And she smelt water nearby. Was it a river? Or a lake? She didn’t hear anything as she let out a small chuff. To be young again would be a blessing, because she felt far too tired to check it. It wasn’t like there were any other predators around to chase her off and she wasn’t thirsty. She would investigate the water after a small nap.

Finding cover under a tree, the land beneath her feet feeling a little spongy, Myrrhis curled up underneath the tree and slowly fell asleep. She’d only wake up if someone stumbled across her and even then, she’d most likely sleep through the ruckus, her breathing slow and steady.

@Myrrhis I am so sorry for the wait! x_x // 296 words

Tawny ears flicked back and forth as dark amber eyes surveyed the open expanse of the marshlands just beyond the tree line, lithe body slinking cautiously forwards. Usually she was less wary, but summer was now upon the land, and that meant bears and other creatures would have already stirred from their hibernation. This was most definitely bear land, as evident from previous encounters. Happy that no predators were in the immediate vicinity, the tawny female darted out onto the wetlands at a skip, already distasteful of the wetness sticking in the toes of her paws. Though it was not as bad as it had been during winter, it was still a marshland. Weeds had popped up everywhere during the spring months, flowers too, though they were far from the remontant kind.

Sticking to the banks where it was the least muddiest, Yvly padded her way quite happily, glad to be out in some semblance of flat land. While she had come to enjoy living within the hardly dense cedarwood forest, she was still a plains wolf at heart. Nothing could beat a wide open space in her mind. With a loud yip and sudden burst of energy, the tawny female leaped forwards, landing heavily on a bunch of weeds with her front paws, using their sponge-like mass as a springboard to scurry forward. Sometimes it was nice to just let go of all her problems and pretend she was free for a little while. Plus there was no one around to see her, so it was okay to act like a pup again. And so she darted around happily with playful yips, using her blunt claws to scrape the ground and throw weeds and flowers into the air, revelling in the freeness of the day.
