Gent Lieris
here we are @Merys; anyone else feel free to jump in @Raela @Sylva @Jynx @Ryker
Random Event: White Fir Notch, an unusual amount of mushrooms have sprouted in your territory.

Even while Sylva was making progress in her education, Medic was a role one could not easily step into. Fashioning it into some kind of learn-as-you-go occupation was risky and could easily lead to tragedy. Therefor, Gent still shouldered the heft of the responsibility himself, and he would for some time until one hundred percent confident that the girl could handle herself in emergencies. Anyways, it was by now just habit. Leader was certainly his calling in life, but the herbalist thoughts would never leave him. With the unusually stormy summer they were having, he knew that the mushrooms would be thriving, and he'd kept a keen eye out for any sudden bursts in growth. Now it had happened, and he was determined to take advantage.

Chaga was his primary target, but psilocybin and other more mildly useful toadstools were worth gathering as well. He had first gone to his apprentice, who with her diligence had probably already noticed. Then in turn each member of the pack had been alerted as the king requested that they each keep their eyes out and collect what they could as they went about their usual business.

He himself dedicated some specific time to this, and brought along with him not only his daughter Lucia, but Merys as well. With Zilas having vanished, the other man was not only his new second-in command, but the only other male within his ranks. This did not sit well with the king for many reasons, none of them having to do personally with Merys. It bothered him that the wolf who had been so loyal to him for so long was now gone, and it bothered him that he could not bring himself to search far or long for him; he could not fall into the vicious cycle that had plagued the Crest, even for Zilas' sake. It was also clearly bothersome that their numbers were falling so low and that the pack did not possess the muscle it would need to should anyone wish to do them harm. As diplomatic as he tried to be, he would not trust others to keep to themselves and had resigned himself to the fact that he would soon need to spend more time outside of the pack's territory and away from his family to try and round up recruits.

As things were, he would need to make the best of them, and while he felt he had a good relationship with Merys, it was incredibly shallow. Something told him this was how his subordinate liked it, but Gent needed more if the man was to be trusted so highly ranked.

"Keep your eyes on the tree trunks, watch for chaga mushrooms. They're the most useful. I've gotta make sure Lucia doesn't swallow a hallucinogen or anything."

"I don't know, I think that could be pretty interesting actually. Maybe we all should. Could liven things up around here."

Of course, White Fir Notch could always use some livening up. Merys trotted lazily alongside Gent, Lucia trailing along behind them here and there. While collecting herbs was not exactly the five year old's forte, he hadn't been doing much of anything else when the Lieris asked him along on the scaerdotal mission to get the elusive medicinal herbs that he used for who-knew-what. Of course, one of the offspring had to come along too, as they were all like mossy sponges, soaking up everything they did these days. Hunting, sleeping, walking.. it was thrilling. Merys rolled his eyes at his own lameness of trying to be funny, and looked back to the young girl with them. They were growing like weeds, and it would seem that they would be the only way that the Notch would up their numbers each year if the past few months had been any indication. Moraxia had left, as well as Urokh and Zilas. It was an impressive attrition rate for a brand new pack, and not altogether motivating in any sense for the future of the Notch wolves. Though Merys had not known the other two females all that well, he could certainly admit that he was happy to hear that Zilas had disappeared. That wolf had had underlying issues, and Merys was no less than thrilled that he took them elsewhere to deal with.

His soft laughter from his joke carried through the open forest, which was peacefully quiet today. It would be interesting to see Gent high as a kite. The puppies were already a bit wild as they were, and Merys was sure that Sylva would be no different at all with or without hallucinogens in her system. She already spoke to the forest, and surprisingly it spoke back. Wasn't that already a step above sober thoughts? Jynx and Raela on the other hand, they would be the unknowns.. "Been getting a little quiet around here," he mentioned casually, this time a little more seriously. He knew all too well that Gent was too diligent not to be concerned with their failing numbers, and would know what he meant with his subtle comment. Though his tone was clear that it wasn't an invitation for a bromantic opening-up conversation, more so of a mutual understanding of what had been going on recently. "Should have had more puppies, right Lucia?" He joked, looking to the small cub with a grin, bringing light back to the conversation so that he could avoid the door he may or may not have opened.

Sylva Riverflow

Sylva crept through the trees, her brown gaze flicking from tree to tree as a small grin formed on her muzzle, She had tried to learn as much about the herbs that grew around the Notch’s territory as possible, one thing that @Gent had mentioned having been that mushrooms have a higher frequency of growth during stormy weather and there had been a lot of that recently. With the recent interactions with outside wolves ending...awkwardly, SYlva wanted to try and make it up to her mentor by showing some initiative and gathering a decent supply of the abundance of growth.

Pausing as a few scent drifted on the breeze, Sylva sighed inwardly, so much for surprising Gent, the Alpha was nearby, nose twitching as the breeze blew toward her, another sigh escaped, this one externally as she picked up on Merys’s scent. Well...there goes my ide- She paused as Lucia’s scent smacked her in the face. Gent brought one of the pups? What if some of the poisonous plants survived our purging...can’t let that happen! She moved with a new found energy, breaking into a quick sprint as she followed the scent toward her packmates.

Sylva was never one for subtlety, and making an entrance was entailed in that as the scents became stronger, just on the other side of the bearing bush, The ebony yearling tried to skid to a stop, only successful in tripping over an exposed root and falling head over tail through the bushes and landing near her Alpha with a groan of embarrassment and a small “H-hi sir…” as she quickly stood, her tail hanging loosely behind her legs as she tried to hide that tumble with an appropriate greeting to her superiors,

Lucia Lieris
The still-small girl trailed behind her father and pack mate, strides as quick and as long as she could make them in hopes of keeping up without it being obvious that she had to put effort in. While @Aleris and @Ryker were starting to pack on pounds and inches, she remained petite and thin. This said nothing about her spirit, however, and if her mouth were not currently stuffed with fungus, she would be making endless use of her ever-expanding vocabularly.

The chaga mushroom tasted interesting upon her tongue and she did not mind how ungainly the large chunk of it was. She was helping, doing adult work and that was all that mattered. Her tail waved high and happy behind her while bright, near-gold eyes romped through the scenery around them with boundless mesmerism. Her ears perked when her father mentioned her name, and as her gaze met Merys' her already stretched mouth expanded further to grin her agreeance.

Her father spoke more, and she honed in on the words with great interest. Where exactly was he talking about going, and why could she never follow? Every time they hit the wall of what was the outskirts of their home, she would be forced back, not allowed to see the rest of the world. Not yet. Man, that burned her up.

A distraction from these thoughts swiftly presented itself, however, as suddenly a great big mess of something burst out of nowhere and landed at her father's paws. Had her mouth not been full, she would have cried out in surprise. As it was, she nearly choked on the mushroom. She halted in shock before recognition took place, then charged forward as the identity of that scary black whirlwind hit her.

"Shvlkuuh!"

Gent Lieris
okay just be vague about merys i guess? i'll probably say he split off from them in my next post, so @Sylva you're up!

A soft scoff was all Merys got in response to his jest. Amusing though, but the physiological effects it would have weren't a joke. Of course, the newly-appointed second didn't need a lecture on all of that. It wasn't until his next comment that the alpha parted his jaws to answer, but not before thinking it over. This gave enough time for the hunter to throw out another quip, and Gent looked over his to watch for his daughter's reaction. While she couldn't speak, the upturned corners of her mouth as all the answer he needed. The man chuckled before speaking, voice solemn as the smile faded like a ghost.

"Yeah. You'll be seeing a little less of me until that's fixed. We're going to have to draw some new blood in."

He didn't much like the idea of spending less time with his family and more outside of his hallowed home, but what needed done had to be done and he would not delegate something so important to others.

A beat of silence, and then an intake of air as he had more to say. Before the words could be ushered out into the air, however, Sylva burst onto the scene. His steps froze and ears snapped to attention, but the moment the black blur was recognized he melded back into the relaxed posture held prior to her interruption. By now, entrances like these were normal. Lucia attempted to cry out a greeting, and Gent was reminded of the girls inexplicable fondness for his protege. So long as he never caught her talking to plants, he supposed it was alright.

"Sylva," he greeted in return. "Come to join us?"
