At look out point, the young wolf sat like a silver statue, dark yellow eyes drifting along the white, yellow, and green landscape. Watching for what she couldn't decide. It didn't seem like many lone wolves ventured this far. They didn't have much of a fox problem any more. Why she'd scented coyotes now and again, they seemed smart to stay out of the territory. With all her sitting she had spotted the comings and goings of her pack mates, but she didn't make a move to follow them. She realized the hardest part about being on her own was just that. She was alone. Why her brothers were irksome, at least she had known them. All their little quirks, and they her. She'd never thought she'd miss it. Nor her mother's chiding tone. Out here it was too quiet. After an unsuccessful hunt she'd forced herself to come sit up here.

But, she yearned to leave the territory boundaries. See beyond the realm, and hear a trickle of water. She didn't want to be caught out another cold night, and it was another reason she remained. With the sun was close to setting, she felt at least she could take a good look to be sure tonight nothing would sneak into the Wild Rye Fields. This small thing was something to do for the wolves who had taken her in. It wasn't like she was tired. She was far too restless.
