For @Piety

Challenge done and the usurper dealt with, she had allowed the white woman a chance to lick her wounds and for @Lorcan to do his job. Oh weren't they a pair? (although she may have quietly hoped the woman would take more to @Wraith she couldn't be all that upset). "Time ter get up!" she unceremoniously barked, stepping on a plush white tail in warning as she left the den. She wasn't the best at waking but when she wanted someone somewhere, she expected them to jump. Much like Lorcan some weeks before, it was time Piety got a bit of edge about her. After all, who knew when it might be needed.

There were things she needed to discuss with the woman too, but after the events of yesterday she thought this just a little more pressing. Making her way down to the flat lands below, only stopping to drag her teeth across @Craw's crown affectionatly and to growl a warning to her children to behave. She was clearly on a mission and would rain all hell down on them if they interupted her task with any sort of mischief.

There would be more to come of the challenge than a simple lesson for Piety though. Every wolf on the Monadnock was on short notice.

I held your name in my heart
but it got buried in my fear
it tore the wiring of my brain
i did my best to keep it clear

She was sore and tired but she had defended her place. Told Lorcan that she was going to be fine despite the serious wounds and that her 'snake' was gone. But something after that fight flicked a switch in her brain. Instead of sleeping close to Lorcan or in her own corner she politely took a place by Morganna and her usual company. She needed the comfort that night but didn't verbally ask for it. With her pride of defending came the worry. How many times would she have to do that again? What if there came a time she couldn't do that again?

As the questions haunted her she kept tossing and turning. But there was a voice. One she had grown to love and appreciate. Was it for her, though? Before she even lifted her sore head she felt her tail being stepped own. She quickly scrambled to her feet with a groan and carefully tiptoed around any sleeping bodies. "Hey!" Her voice resembled one of those louder whispers. "Patrol or tracking, Morganna?" She groggily asked as she trailed beside the dark Archer. Piety had no idea what she was about to get herself into by leaving that den. She also knew better than to keep snoozing when Morganna both told her and showed her it was time to rise.

Patrol or tracking, Morganna turned on @Piety with a smirk, "Fightin'." It was about time she stopped being so soft on the woman and made sure she could look after herself. She dropped back along the white wolf's left flank, her nose passing affectionately over her missing ear, "Promise I'll go easy on yer, no ears wouldn' suit yer at all." She teased, picking up her pace again, wanting to reach flat ground sooner rather than later. She very well could have rammed Zahira right off the Monadnock, she didn't want someone she cared about accidentally slipping.

When they finally reached a spot that was relatively devoid of hidden stones and gullies (if her memory served her correctly, she turned to face her companion, "Yer did good yesterday but yer spent too much time talkin', someone challenges yer, it's up ter you ter remind 'em just where they stand. Yer take it softly, softly and thats what yer get," she gestured towards the other woman's muzzle with a tip of her head. She would have to get Capable (@Isuni) on board with this one. Piety could be their little project.

"Next time someone come's at yer like this..." She raised her tail and her hackles followed suit, "Yer best be puttin' em in their place." She gestured with a tip of her chin that Piety should show her what she's got.

Fightin'.

Piety was a little shocked. Morganna expected her to stand up against her? The pale woman wasn't sure if she could do that. Sure they had kindly been rough with each other (Piety had even rumbled with @Wraith in kind gestures) but she didn't think she could actually try to fight. She reminded herself it was just sparring. A little lesson and nothing more.

Her muddy eyes watched as the Archer woman closed the space between them. Once upon a time, she would have feared for her life by having the woman so close to her. Piety knew that this wasn't the case anymore. The touch over her missing ear was affectionate. A soft rumble came from the Santoro as she kindly nudged Morganna. "Don't need Kara singing 'bout me missing two ears." She chuckled softly to let the mother know that she didn't mind it. Children would be teasing and brash.

A smile slightly took over her lips at the praise but faded as Morganna finished speaking. "Don't think the new marks suit me? Is it because you didn't leave them?" Her voice was slightly teasing, all in good nature. Perhaps Piety would have been more accepting of the two new additions to her feature had they come from the dark woman.

Her form lowered instantly as Morganna raised her tail and hackles. Piety was not at all ready for this. She had never even thought of being purposely aggressive towards the alpha. It made something in her feel uncomfortable. Swallowing the lump that had built in her throat. The small tip was an indication that it was Piety's turn. It didn't feel right to go after the muzzle or even the neck. So instead Piety squared herself before running towards the woman's shoulder. If she could get a little stumble it would be a good start.

It was obviously not the answer the white wolf expected but after the events of the day before she found herself left with little option. She didn't want her pack mates tearing each other to shreds, but if Mittani was the standard, she wanted to make sure her own were ready to knock any wolves he bought back with him flat on their arses. She wouldn't allow those that had been loyal for so long to be walked all over by a band of gypsies.

Her daughters songs were most often met with a low growl when she heard them being sung, but it wasn't enough to deter the girl. At least Piety didn't seem to take the teasing to heart, and that was half the challenge with those kids, they were just looking for a rise. "Tha's not th' problem," she admitted a little bitterly, "Yer shouldn't have ter put up with shit like tha' from wolves that're meant ter be yer family." but at least that small problem was now resolved.

Morganna was prepared to hold her ground as Piety charged, but with the force of a run up behind her the darker wolf was forced to cede some ground. She could only hope it was enough of a confidence boost before her own head swung low to nip at pale legs in an attempt to trip the one eared wolf up. It would leave the back of her neck exposed, an easy target, but would the other woman take it?

"Yes, Morganna." She smiled shyly and let her tail sway softly. It was obvious the other woman was taking this very serious and Piety couldn't exactly blame her. What kind of Leader wanted their subordinates ripping into each other over a position? She figured none unless there were some overaggressive wolves who were into that with their pack. Which seemed rather strange.

As she was close to making contact there was the contact of teeth nipping at her legs and Piety opened her jaws wildly in a new approach. If her balance was gonna be knocked off then she could try to grab Morganna's skin and pull to try to get the dark woman down with her. Then they both could be exposed and it would level the playing fields just a bit. She was a bit unsure if it would work, though. Fighting had never really been her thing. Everything she did and know was pure instinct with little strategy behind them. She supposed she never really had to fight which was why the skill had always been weaker than others. The pale Monadnock wolf supposed she could count herself as lucky to have so many strong wolves around her to teach her.

There was something about the way the woman spoke her name that kindled the hint of a fire in the dark Archer's chest. It was such a foreign concept that she found herself distracted, unable to offer any more direction as the distance closed between them. Was she unwell? The only other time she had felt such a fluttering feeling in her stomach was when her children had been fighting for space in her womb and before that, when she was about to bring up something unpeasant. Were they not so short on supplies and the grass long wilted and dead she might have thought to go find something once they were done.

Unknowingly a small grin had begun to grow on her face as her shoulder shoved into the plush white fur of her sparring partners chest.

Teeth grabbed ahold of the thick skin over her shoulder, pulling her down with the dove. If she didn't want her skin to tear and bleed, she would have to fall with her, though that would still leave her on top. If she threw her weight into it instead of fighting she might be able to wind her opponent, but this was just practice and she didn't wish the woman any real harm. Instead she would try to twist so that if the white wolf let go it would only be a short scramble to regain her feet and hold her in place.

Not one part of Piety had expected the dark Archer to fall down with her. Granted she had been given the promise of Morganna going easy on her. A soft oof left her and freed the skin of Morg from the dove's jaws. There was no need to give in just yet, though. Things were getting started and if Piety was to learn she'd need to give it all she had.

With the dark woman on top of her Piety hesitated for a moment. Fear and admiration coursing through her veins before she could make a move. Her jaws opened again as she aimed to grasp the underside of Morg's neck. The monadnock subordinate only had the intention of getting a firm hold. She didn't wish to injure her lead female or actually puncture any skin. Piety was terrified of any more injuries coming to the Whitestone wolves. With the supply of herbs short, the dove felt like even the tiniest cut was too much.

In an attempt to make herself seem strong a low growl rumbled up and out of Piety's chest. It was meant to be more playful than aggressive and the pale female hoped Morganna would understand that.

In that moment of hesitation she thought the woman beneath her might submit and so she lowered her guard, but too soon. Quick as a flash the woman moved in, jaws closing gently around her throat, the sensation enough to send a thrill down her spine as her brain set off the alarm for danger. The growl against her throat tickled and she smiled, ears falling back against her skull, any weight she had been supporting with her legs released as she lowered herself onto the victor, her tail waving in congratulations for the Santoro.

"Now if yer had'da pulled this one yesterday I'd hope yer would'a bitten harder an' not let go." She would wait for her companion to release her hold before planting a kiss between the woman's eyes, mindful of the fresh wounds that still adorned her face.

While Piety made a perfectly comfortable place for Morganna to lay, she didn't want to leave the woman feeling she had done anything wrong and so she lifted herself up and moved to sit along side her. "Yer should'a stuck around yer know? Yer were a better choice than th' replacement." They hadn't much spoken of the Willows, the wound perhaps both too raw for both of them, but it felt right, in this moment. Piety had to be curious about what had transpired after she left.
