At the moment, as the sun began sinking down under the tree line, Ravenna had in her jaws a collection of a few plants - a small clump of Lavender Hyssop, roots of wild ginger, dug up and ripped from the earth, and four stalks of yarrow in tack with its white clustered flowers atop it. Settling down this collection outside of the pack den, silver eyes began its search for Enoki. The new, soon-to-be mother could not escape her. She would take her medicines if the medic could help it.
She knew it was only a matter of time before the silver princess would seek her out again in order to shove those god awful tasting plants down her throat. Sure, Ravenna had only the best intentions in mind each time she came around to give the expecting mother her medicine, but good intentions or not the kind gesture did little to sway the awful taste her concoction formed upon her tongue once the vegetation was ground to a pulp by her teeth. Teeth that were made for chewing delicious meat, not plants.
It was the familiar smell of herbs lofting into the pack den where Enoki had been laying down after another dumping of her stomach contents that first alerted the piebald woman to Ravenna's approach, making an internal groan with the knowledge that she would have to take her medicine again if she wanted to feel remotely alive again and much like her mother Ravenna wouldn't take no for an answer. Perhaps if she lay silent enough in the darkest corner of the den the young woman wouldn't detect her presence and move on to search another portion of the territory for the impregnated matriarch. Alas, luck wouldn't be kind to Enoki today.
Suddenly an all too familiar wave of nausea and uncomfortable pressure began to build against her swelling abdomen, ebony ears splaying back with the knowledge that any moment now she would wretch her attempt at eating dinner minutes prior and reveal her whereabouts to the searching nurse, but she couldn't dwell on that for long. Saliva began to pool within her closed jaws and reluctantly she emerged from the den's entrance, abruptly pushing past the younger woman to find a secluded spot to regurgitate her latest meal. It was not a pretty sight to behold. Much to the first time mother's displeasure, her sides contracted and after a few false dry heaves the contents of her stomach were expelled in a mixture of bile and partially digested rabbit. "Ugh.." Enoki groaned, closing dark lids to try and make the spinning world around her stop while limbs tensed to keep herself grounded. There was no hiding from @Ravenna now.
"I have something for you to chew on..." She spoke delicately, only when she was certain Enoki had nothing more her body wished to get rid of. She turned around, padding back to the opening at the den and lifted up a ginger root and then brought it to sit in front of her new leader. Though of course Ravenna did not stop there. She moved quickly, going back to the new plants she collected and gave her tail a wave. "I'm going to soak these flowers and stems in this water overnight and when you get up in the morning id like for you to drink the water and it should help prevent your stomach from getting morning sickness." She settled then, laying down on her stomach and offering Enoki some time for her to get to work at chewing at that root or question it.
Had the woman known what it felt like to be on a rocking boat in the middle of a raging ocean she may have compared the churning of her stomach and the spinning of her head in this very moment to that. In all honestly, the dappled woman was surprised she had managed to remain standing at all while her body retaliated against the choice she had made with Nicolo to conceive children of their own, her stomach now cleansed of its contents, but that didn't stop her muscles from clenching and forcing the bile that remained inside to join the regurgitated dinner at her paws. The cherry on top.
Caught red handed. Mid wretch, an ebony ear turned back to catch Ravenna's delicately spoken words about having something for her to chew on. Of course, she did her mind wanted to grumble but with the churning of her stomach even the medical herbs the magpie typically shied away from were beginning to sound mighty tempting. Anything to make this annoying sensation go away and allow her to obtain some sort of sustenance from meals she tried to enjoy. With this pregnancy, she had come to acquire a whole new admiration for eating despite the nasty side effect of trying to gorge one's self.
For a moment Enoki continued to just stand there until she heard the faint footsteps of the silvered lady grow louder and then a peculiar scent waft up into her nostrils. Slowly opening her eyes she focused her gaze on the odd looking root that was placed at her paws, leaning down to nudge and sniff at it before snorting from the smell. "What's the root do?" She asked curiously, steeling herself for what awful taste she knew would come flooding her mouth the moment she put that thing in her mouth. By no means did the matriarch question the knowledge the young girl had inherited from her mother, but it would ease the older woman to know exactly what sort of things she was putting into her body.
While awaiting an answer her jaws parted and wrapped around the root, a grimace making itself evident upon her face the moment her teeth punctured the root and a sour taste began to seep onto her taste buds. Like a child that wanted to please their parent, though, she diligently continued to chew while ears splayed back in displeasure at the taste. Listening to @Ravenna go on about some flowers she planned to have soaked overnight and then have Enoki drink the water which should help alleviate the morning sickness she was experiencing. "Would it taste bad?" She questioned with a mouthful of root, some unchewed pieces tumbling out and onto the ground. Leave it to Enoki to wonder if something tasted good or not rather than if it would actually work.
Watching Enoki go at the root finally, Ravenna could not help the half cocked smirk which pressed upon her silver haired mug. Her expression was priceless and yet still she chewed at it despite the very powerful taste of ginger if only with a hope that this would work. She was a good sport. "Yarrow is always known to have a very potent sweet scent. When you drink this, or when you chew it, it will be at first pleasant." She spoke, pausing but a moment to give Enoki some smell sense of hope and then - "But the aftertaste can be a bit bitter. Nothing like what your chewing on now though." Ravenna then makes a face on her leader's behalf and then laughs to the bits of ginger falling off Enoki's face, her tail waving as she went back to ripping at some more yarrow stalks and placing them in the bowl of water. "Yarrow has so many uses. The whole plant can be used soaked in water, made into a poultice to apply to wounds, or just chewed and eaten..." She mindlessly goes on in between ripping up at the stalks.
Between continued crunches of root the magpie listened to the silver lady explain the medicinal purposes it served, the main ones she listed everything she was experiencing with this pregnancy before offering the name of the tart tasting root she had lodged in her mouth. "Why does ginger sound more pleasant than it tastes?" Enoki rhetorically questioned Ravenna, a light chuckle following suit before a hard swallow guided the bits of chewed ginger down her throat. Another sour expression contorting the woman's facial features before refocusing her attention on the young medic as she began to go into a small lesson about the plants that would be soaking in the water overnight.
Yarrow. That was the name she had called them and much like the ginger this too would be filed away should their uses be needed at a later time. At first, a delighted expression settled upon her features at the prospect of something sweet in comparison to the bitter root currently within her mouth...and then Ravenna had to ruin that fantasy by admitting the aftertaste was a whole new world of bitter in comparison to ginger. There was no stopping the groan that fell from Enoki's lips, but shortly after it a bout of laughter followed suit allowing more loose pieces of unchewed ginger to tumble before her paws.
Ravenna then went on to continue informing the matriarch the medicinal uses of the Yarrow plant and like a curious student, Enoki listened closely while padding closer to lay beside the silvered woman and watch her process the stalks. Leaving the older wolf to ponder if any of the children within her womb would come to desire a knowledge in the medical world like their cousin and dearly missed aunt. "I never realized plants could be so useful." She speaks softly, continuing to watch the other work while her tongue made a single pass around the inside of her mouth to rid any loose bits of ginger from between her teeth.
Having Enoki finish then and come nearer, Ravenna finished up shredding the few left over stocks of Yarrow and settled then into the bowl. So long as no-one messed with it, drinking from it would do Enoki good in the morning. Making a face as she kicked and mouthed at the bits still in her mouth, she then turned back to the piebald woman, ears perked. "Mom was a very good teacher..." She commented with a delicate smile, nearly forced. It was still hard to speak about her parents but she was trying. Inwardly, she thought about her parents often... Her mother's lessons in her teenage months, her father's reassuring words as a child...
Enoki now was closer to Ravenna then she had ever been before. Without Ravenna's parents, without her siblings and without her cousin Renier, Enoki more or less would suffer the solver girl's clinginess. After all, Ravenna had known Enoki all of her life and she had become no less of an aunt to her then Adele has been. Now, having paired with Nicolo, she truly was a part of the family.
An uncomfortable prod against her stomach and the dappled woman shifted her position slightly to alleviate the pressure against it, leaning more on her side now while laid beside the busy woman finishing up the last few stalks of Yarrow that needed shredding. Enoki was content to watch the woman in silence until silvered irises turned their attention away from the plants at her paws and onto the piebald woman, ebony ears taking a moment to sweep backward and her expression softening when her mother was mentioned. "That she was and an excellent friend." Reaching out she brushed the tip of her nose against Ravenna's cheek fondly knowing how hard it was for the young girl to speak of her parents.
She too had found it hard to speak of them, especially Elettra after being closer to her than Angier although the tawny man had earned her adoration just as much. But each day the pain that lingered around her heart lessened a little more and internally she knew that neither of them would have wanted their members to mourn forever. Willow Ridge still needed to thrive and Enoki planned to do just that. The new generation of Archer's that occupied her womb the first step in rebuilding the crumbling kingdom she would restore in Elettra's honor.
"And I know that one day you will be just as good of a teacher once these little ones are born. It may not be the art of a healer, but how to show them what an Archer is made of." At that, a playful smirk adorned the corner of Enoki's inky lips, a small attempt at keeping the mood light and easygoing while speaking of the fallen alphas, reaching out again to give a silvered shoulder a small prod. "Don't think I don't notice the way you walk proudly like your mother did."
She couldn't help but melt into Enoki's touch, a larger smile moving over her features then the last she had forced when she first mentioned her mother. Enoki always seemed to have a way with words and this moment was no exception to this. After she mentioned the fact that her mother had been an excellent friend, she went on so add fast Ravenna would hopefully knowledge her to be born children in what it was like to be an Archer wolf. The responsibility was endless for Ravenna Lyall-Archer, though she had every intention of trying her best. She could not have been more excited for the children to come. HER cousins, after all.
Her smile then formed into a smirk as Enoki mentioned how proudly she walked. How could she not? As far as Ravenna had ever been told and known to be, she was born of a royal and powerful line and knowing her mother had founded this very pack only heightened this more so. Ravenna had no intention of getting on Enoki's way which was obvious for her not having gone out and breeding this year, though she couldn't help but walk with an air of importance. She was born to become someone great and she would be.
"I can only hope to be half as great of a woman as she was." Ravenna spoke, moving close to brush her nose along her "aunt's" nape. "Come on, I feel a good cuddle and afternoon nap is needed." She then commented, thinking that after Enoki's upset stomach and having ingested those herbs, it would be best she get her rest. Lifting up off of the group, she prodded her leader to urge her into the den.
