For @Serach RE: Flash flooding has caused local landslides.

"Don't go shouting out loud that you're claiming the crown"

Young pups had proved just as stressful to the pack as a pregnant leader, much to Nalda's surprise and dismay. For now they mostly stuck to the den at least, along with Aponi, and the young shewolf tended to keep her distance, except occasionally stopping by to drop of the remains of a kill – or, more likely, something she'd scavenged off someone else's. Today she wasn't hunting though, but rather doing her part for the pack, walking the borders and leaving her mark where the scent was growing weak. Her route took her along the north-eastern corner of the land, where the waterway crept along the bottom of the red hills, the little creek currently swollen with melt water coming down from higher ground. It had left the banks muddy and hard to traverse, even crumbling underfoot in several places.

But Nalda persevered, taking the rough terrain as a challenge, a welcome change in the land that was otherwise becoming so familiar. She was reasonably happy in the Bend she supposed, or certainly not unhappy. There was plenty of food here, and protection, as well as the warmth of others during the still chilly spring nights. Most importantly there was @Aponi, whom her niece had come to regard highly, seeing in her all the things her mother and fake-aunt Iopah had lacked; A final hope that perhaps family was not completely fruitless. If that was true, then this was her last chance, her aunt and, now, her cousins, the last, narrow thread binding her to anything. And, as much as she hated to admit it, the young woman still feared being completely rootless. So here she was, because there was nowhere else to be, trying to do right by her aunt.

But when it came to the rest of the pack, she was still mostly a recluse, preferring her own company to any others'. When she crossed paths with her pack mates, mostly around the den in the mornings and evenings, or when they gathered to hunt, she would be courteous enough, but she had never been much for small talk and didn't intend to begin now. She kept the interactions short and her words to a minimum, though she made an effort not to appear too rude. This was the state of affairs, and currently she accepted it, doubting she could do much better.

Her thoughts and movements were both suddenly halted, when she came across an obstacle on her path. A heap of mud, rocks, and other unidentifiable things stretched from the russet rock face and out into the river, forming a swiftly growing lake as the gushing water attempted to get around the  blockage. The wolf reared up her head in irritation, looking around and frowning at the swampy milieu; There was no way she was getting around this without getting soaked up to her belly, lest she turn around and hike a far distance back the way she came; Like that's happening!
