Larkspur Ritter
Smol pack hunt! @Sahalie @Kino @Castel @Draven @Kuwindwa and maybe @Niles if he's officially joined.

The dust from their adventure was finally settling and Quaking Vale was flourishing. He only anticipated it would get better from here and they all could enjoy the newness of their pack. It seemed that everyone was in high spirits, which meant that they all needed to take advantage of it. They had their food caches and it was about time they fill it with something larger than rabbits and mice. They'd had a heavy snow the other day, but today the sun filtered through the aspens above them. Larkspur stopped to enjoy the scenery before him, which was something he hadn't really stopped to do. He didn't spend too long on enjoying the view and quickly pulled himself back to the task at hand: gathering his pack for a hunt.

A small herd of deer had been passing through their territory, which meant it was the perfect time to call his packmates. His howl rang out through the quaking aspen forest, calling their first hunt as a pack.

He was so different now that they had settled. Of course deep down Larkspur was still the same irritable man that had limped into Relic Lore last year, but he had changed and seemed so much more comfortable in their new home. It would be unlike him to get along with everyone that decided to call Quaking Vale their home — his distaste for the tiny Castel had not been kept secret from anyone in the pack — but he more or less had pulled his weight. He did what he was asked, he helped when he could, and his face even wrinkled up into a snarl less and less. It was spring, after all, and it was a good time as any for change.

Not wasting any time waiting around for wolves to show (he was certain they'd find him), Larkspur set off on the lingering deer trail.

Hunting post 1/3

Cas had been dozing peacefully in the sunshine, trying to rid the chill from her fur, when she heard the grumpiest wolf (apart from @Askan, whom she had been tempted to go back and see just to try and make amends for what she'd done) call out for the rest of the pack. Tail wagging instantly, she hopped to her feet, pleased to find that nothing hurt quite as badly as it did the day before. Perhaps she was getting a bit stronger. She hadn't been giving a whole lot of thought into her imminent death recently, as she'd been preoccupied with other things, like getting the pack settled in and helping her new leaders and spending time with Niles. But now that she was feeling better, she realized how horrible she'd allowed her health to get. It was dangerous for her to overdo it - she knew that now - but she didn't think a hunt would do any harm.

The yearling sped off after the older wolf, her pawsteps light and quiet as she followed his and the deer's scent. She ended up intercepting him on the trail, wagging her tail in greeting but not speaking until she was close enough to whisper. "What's the plan, boss?" She kept her voice quiet and her ears perked, excited to be able to go on the pack's first real hunt.

Larkspur's ear twitched as he heard the paw steps of another. He glanced in @Castel 's direction, unable (or maybe just downright unwilling) to hide the disgusted look on his face. He shouldn't have been surprised, because of course the girl was going to try and be buddy-buddy with him. Some wolves couldn't understand the concept of Larkspur saying I don't like you and don't want to be your friend. He sighed under his breath, continuing on the trail. He probably could have tried to lose her, or maybe even told her to scram. Lark couldn't completely ostracize her. He could play nice, if even for one hunt.

What's the plan, boss?

Lark's fur bristled and he stopped. His face twitched, clearly holding back a nasty snarl. Managing to hold back, Lark finally acknowledged the girl. "I'm not your boss, Castel," he firmly said. If he had been her boss, she wouldn't have been standing there near him, breathing the same air. "But there's a deer trail this way," he gestured ahead, the grass parted where the deer had walked through. "We'll find them and take one down," for now, it seemed like it was just the two of them. A good of a time as any to see what good the girl was at hunting. "Go on. Take the lead."

Hunting post 2/3

She hardly had the energy to spare being nice to Larkspur, but if he was going to try for this hunt, then so was she. She offered him a wag of her tail, heading over to walk alongside him. Keeping her pawsteps light in case there were any prey around - she didn't want to frighten them off. She didn't respond to his comment of 'I'm not your boss, Castel.' She hated when others used her full name, especially when it sounded so demeaning - like he was talking down to her. The silver-brushed girl didn't think she'd ever met a wolf that was so difficult to be kind to.

But, as it were, they were equals within the pack, and she had to make an effort.

"Okay," she replied breezily, though quietly, as she pressed her nose to the ground and caught wind of the deer. When she caught it, it was much easier to follow, and she stalked over the half-frozen ground toward the deer. "If it's just you and me, we'll have to find a small or weak one." She angled her ears back toward him. "If I can herd it around to you, do you think you can bite its throat?" Her voice was a hushed whisper, as they were approaching where the deer currently were resting, grazing, or whatever deer did in their spare time.
