@Askan

It was foggy and Reid loved it. The sun didn't come through to hurt his eyes and he could explore to his heart's continent. It did change how the sound echoed around him and that he didn't care for much but he still preferred it to clear sunny days. Humming slightly under his breath he walked easily through the trees a smile on his face. He vaguely knew where he was compared to where his family lived but other than that he had no idea. What he did know was that he was liking this place already. Of course, he had only been here for the day and so far he hadn't found anything to be displeased about...yet.

A breeze began to pick up and Reid stopped as an odd sound filled his ears. It sounded like moaning or maybe a howl of some kind? Yet even as he thought about it he couldn't imagine a wolf making that sort of sound. Or were there some odd wolves roaming the area that he had unknowingly passed? He knew he hadn't passed into anyone's territory of that he was sure of. Reid considered before he shrugged. It the sound continued maybe he would investigate but for now, it wasn't causing any issues so he would ignore it. If however, it was coming from a wolf it wasn't a wolf that he could understand anyway so no point in responding. With that decided Reid continued to walk without much aim of where he was going.

Again with all the fog. It was starting to become a pain in his arse. On one paw it meant whatever prey were around were as blind as he, giving him the chance to sneak up on it, but on the other how the hell was he supposed to catch them? It's not like he was built for stealth anyway, he and his fellow Selwyns-what was left of them anyway- had  almost always been rather chunky. How had his Father put it, compact? Built for conflict?

Whatever. It didn't matter. He'd get through this and find his way back home, hopefully with a little critter to add to one of the caches. Those damn pups ate their fill and more.

Treading along, Askan kept his gaze forward looking for anything to emerge out of the midst. One foot after the other and-FUCK!

"Ow shit, dammnit fuck, fucking arse you shit!"

He reeled back, holding his throbbing paw in the air as he shouted his tirade of honestly uncouth words. So what? It hurt really really bad. That damn stone, so sharp and jagged like it was designed to inflict the most pain possible. He flicked his foot about, trying to shake off the pain but damn, it wasn't working. It hurt still, pretty damn bad.

Pulling in a deep breath her carefully leaned in to sniff at his foot. Was it bleeding? Would he need medical treatment? Damn, he hoped not. Sure, they had Neko now, who he knew would be happy to take a look at it. But he was a fair distance from home, the last thing he wanted to do was limp home like a cripple.

Reyes would never let him hear the end of it.

It seemed like the moaning sound that he heard wasn't going to stop anytime soon so Reid figured that it wasn't a wolf. No wolf could howl or moan, whatever the sound was, that long without taking a breath of air. However, the sudden explosive cursing that he knew was definitely a wolf. A wolf that was very displeased with the current situation that they had found themselves in. An amused smile spread across his face. The first wolf that he had come across here and they were already cursing up a storm.

Without really thinking about it Reid followed the sound straight to the source to find a dirt colored wolf holding his paw in the air. He looked rather pissed about it as well. Opal eyes went to the ground to see the offending stone that had done the deed. The other wolf hadn't noticed him yet so Reid eyed up the stranger, noting the stranger's stockier build compared to his own slimmer one, before speaking up.

Are you in need of assistance? He questioned tone friendly. He still had a slight smile on his face as he regarded the other waiting to see how they would react to the sudden appearance of a strange wolf while they were hurt. Reid was no medic so even if the wolf had completely torn his paw up he couldn't help in the slightest. Of course, even if he had known anything to help the dirt wolf's pain he didn't have any reason to. Plus the stranger smelled of other wolves so he likely had someone who would be able to help him already.

Askan turned to the stranger, his teeth bared and eyes glowing with contempt.

It took him a moment or so-longer than he would have liked- to realise just what the stranger had said. Only then did he let his lips relax and hackles de-poof. Assistance huh? He wasn't inclined to accept the help of strangers, after all who knew what sort of shit they could be up to.

"Did no one tell you it's rude to sneak up on people like that? I could have hurt you." He was still half tempted to as well, just to run his point home. But he didn't, he wasn't a complete arse.

As to whether he needed help? He didn't think so. With a hiss, he pressed his paw down onto the ground and applied a bit more weight with each passing second. It hurt, for sure, but with each passing moment the pain was less and less so. He was sure it would be tolerable in no time, he'd be able to walk home with little issue. Unless he stood on something sharp again. Maybe, if he was worried he'd get Neko to look at it. But he didn't think he'd have to. He was tough, he could handle a little ouchie.

"What did you have in mind anyway? Not a lot you can do about a sore paw." Unless he planned on pulling herbs out of his arse...An imagine Askan didn't want to think about, at all.

Reid's smile grew bigger as the stranger whirled around to face him teeth bared in an obvious threat. It wasn't the worst reaction the Reid had ever gotten and for the most part, it didn't concern him at all seeing as how most wolves would react in a similar way to being sneaked up on. Besides, if the dirt coloured wolf wanted to attack him he would have already been lunging with the intent for flesh. Yet he was standing there slowly relaxing as no threat was offered.

Yep, but I'm still going to do it anyway makes things a little more interesting. Reid replied eyes shining in amusement. You still could but then again you're not the only one with teeth. He added the last part with a light snap of teeth in the dirt coloured males direction. The move all play and no threat.

He simply watched as the stranger tested out his paw on the ground and Reid waited to see what he would decide. Was he going to be needing help or not? If he did need some assistance then the other wolf would owe him and that thought pleased the red wolf to no end. But how long would he have to help? A couple hours might be alright but if it was say days Reid wasn't sure he wanted to stick around that long. Guess it would depend on what the stranger decided.

Depended upon how bad you hurt yourself. Reid responded with a shrug still smiling. If you couldn't walk on it you could have leaned on me until you got where you needed to go. If you were bad enough off I could have run to some pack to see if they had a healer. But it hardly looks like you need any of that if it's just sore. It didn't appear to be bleeding and the stranger didn't seem concerned about it anymore.

A little more interesting? Wasn't that a reckless way of viewing things? As a loner he should be doing his damn well best to ensure his safety, and yet here he was poking the proverbial tiger-aka Askan- and pushing his luck. He went onto point out that Askan wasn't the only one with teeth, which was true but a feeble comeback nonetheless, or so he thought anyways.

"You might have them, but I doubt you know how to use them like I do." He sneered, knowing full well he could knock this guy on his arse if he so pleased.

Sure the stranger was a smidge taller than he was but height counted for little. Experience was important and considering his status the Selwyn had plenty of it. Then again there would always be someone out there who knew more than him. He doubted it was this guy, didn't carry himself in the right way. But perhaps it was high time he was a little more cautious when it came to getting mouthy with strangers.

His suggestions weren't bad, but he was right he didn't need any of that. Even if he did he was pretty sure he would have said no anyway, pride and all. He'd much prefer to limp back to the field than have to accept the help from such a....he looked like he'd rolled in squished berries. That was the best he could come up with at that point. Whatever.

He shook off his paw again, for good measure, and pressed it down on the floor. It barely hurt at all anymore, just a fuzzy little stinging sensation that easy enough to drown out if he tried.

"Yeah, I won't be needing your services. I'm fine. It was just a rock, not like a stood on a porcupine or something." Now that would have been shitty.

It seemed like the stranger wasn't amused by how Reid chose to view things. Didn't make much difference to him. Most wolves viewed the world a little differently anyway and if the dirt colored wolf wanted to be more uptight about it that was fine. He would try and enjoy the things that were thrown his way if he could.

Then the stranger mocked him going on to say that Reid didn't know how to use them. Dark thoughts flickered through his head and Reid's expression briefly hardened. That may be true but you didn't have to use your teeth to put someone in their place. Maybe the wolf in front of him hadn't experienced that little fact before but Reid wasn't going to be the one to introduce him to it either. Let him learn the hard way or never learn at all if he hadn't already. Yet, if they were simply speaking of whose fangs could do more damage to the other... That may be true.He responded back a smile on his face once more.

The dirt colored wolf went on to turn down Reid's service's, as he called them and dismissing the pain because it had been a rock and not a porcupine to do the damage. Which brought up a question for Reid that he immediately voiced. Are there porcupines in the area? He had seen one of the prickly things on only a couple occasions and if they were in the area he might go and find one to amuse himself with.

It was true. Whether the stranger wanted to believe him or not was irrelevant, the truth was the truth and that was the end of it.

Askan was a stubborn man, for sure, but he wasn't feeling particularly argumentative. Actions spoke far louder than words, but even so,he'd rather not waste them on a stranger he doubted he'd ever meet again.

Months back, he would have no doubt felt differently, but now that he'd settled in these lands and called them home...Well, there was always a stranger he'd meet in passing, who'd linger for a while and then fade away like a long lost memory. If someone were to ask him, he would claim that didn't bother him. And it didn't. But he and his fellow Rye wolves had been burned in the past, by those who claimed to be loyal and trustworthy were anything but.

It was simply easier to keep those he didn't know at arms length. To keep them firmly locked out until they truly proved they were worth his time.Only then would he open up, and even then it was a slow process.

Bringing his attention back to the present, Askan regarded the loner with a quirked brow. Bit of a random question, but okay.

"I suppose so? They're about, doing whatever they do...I guess?" Just what did they do? Herm, he'd never really thought about it before. Why was he even thinking about it now? A damn waste of his time."Don't you have something more productive to do...Like eat?"

Life as a loner wasn't easy, surely he should pay attention to trying to stay alive, rather that whether there was a certain critter living in the area. Damn idiot.

Porcupines were something of an amusement for Reid to say the least the first time he had seen one he had simply stared at it...for hours until one of his older siblings had found him and had explained to him what the creature was. He remembered following the creature around for the day but after that, it had been forgotten. He had seen it maybe once or twice more after that but it hadn't held any interest then but now? He would gladly amuse himself with one.

The stranger seemed to be a bit confused and this made Reid's smile grow a bit bigger. He seemed to think about it for a moment before dismissing whatever idea had gone through his head and instead he asked why Reid wasn't you know thinking about eating. Which was a good train of thought if Reid hadn't found a rabbit earlier. So hunger wasn't his main concern at the moment.

What makes you think I'm not? Reid asked conversationally wondering why the dirt wolf was concerned about a loner like him. However, it was true that the main purpose was entertainment but there was a hunting technique his brother had tried to teach him that he wanted to test out. Of course, his brother had failed to show the technique properly so Reid only had an idea of what he was supposed to do. If he could actually do it was the question he wanted to answer but that was only if he found a porcupine. From what I've been told there's a technique to hunting porcupines. I haven't had a chance to test it out though so I'm not sure if it's true or not. He finished with a shrug.
