Aegir Sørenson

After days of travelling through those dark, tangled woods, Aegir had quickly decided that they were indeed just as ghastly as their name implied. They were awful! Dreadful and spooky like something out of a bad dream. Even when he stuck close to his parents or even Kyri's side he didn't feel much better. He adored his Da's stories of monsters and myths, but if they really did exist then the Ghastly Woods was were they would reside.

It seemed that there was a light at the end of the tunnel, as the thick, knotted woods transitioned into an open space with a big pool for Aegir to splash around in. He'd ran off once again, eager to explore and enjoy the sunlight but he knew his family weren't too far off. If a monster did happen on by, all he would have to do is call and they would come running.

But if it were a wolf, well the Little Dragon was confident he could handle them on his own. All he had to do was peer up at them with his big doe eyes as his lips trembled, as though he was about to burst into tears and they would be putty in his hands. It was a technique that worked well for him, and as the saying went, if it wasn't broken, don't fix it.

As to why they had headed this far north-and through those awful woods- well, honestly Aegir wasn't entirely sure. Da had said he'd wanted to talk to someone, but was it so important that they had to come all this way? Being the nosy sod he was, Aegir asked and pestered his Da to know more but even then he wasn't really satisfied. What was so good about this @Gent ? And why did his Da want to speak to him so much?

A spark of jealously lingered in his heart. Aegir had to know, he had to find out for himself. He knew that he supposedly lived around here somewhere, that he led a pack his Da refered to as 'The Notch.'It was simply a matter of finding him and proving that this Gent was not everything his father made him out to be.

Despite the recent rains, Aegir could still smell the border, it acted as a beacon, luring him in close till the smell was practically right up his nose. He'd found it, this was the Notch he'd been locking for.

The ground was soggy under his paws as he moved through the trees of the forest that he called home. The pale leader was on one if his normal patrols ehe. He had noticed the pup through the trees. At the time the child hadn't ventured close enough for Emrys to be concerned so he'd merely watched. Having his own children and knowing what he would do if a stranger approached them he knew strange pups could be dangerous things. While watching he kept an eye out for the child's mother or father to see if they were around.

He weaved between the trees as he stayed close enough to see the pup but far enough he didn't think the child would notice him. It was when the youngster had gotten much too close to the border for comfort that the pale leader finally made his presence known. He caught up to the child, a boy, before stepping out of the tree line.

“What brings you to my borders?” He asked kindly not wanting to scare the child off. If he was lost then he didn't want him to become more lost. If his parents were looking for him Emrys would do what he could to help as he knew that was what he would like to happen if one of his own children were missing.

At first Aegir didn't notice the Notch wolf, he was too busy sniffing around trying to catch a recent scent. But of course, when he spoke up there was no mistaking that he had company. And his words were rather telling, as it seemed as though Aegir had found-or rather been found by- the wolf he was looking for.

"Yer borders?"He asked, as he eyed the Notch King with something akin to contempt.

This was Gent, the Notch alpha his Da had been talking about? He made him out to be some important figure, someone to be trusted if it came down to it. But this guy? Aegir adored his Father with everything he had but it seemed to him that his Da had been exaggerating, telling tall tales about this guy. As to why he'd do such a thing, well he had no clue. All he knew was that he had nothing to fear from this blue eye'd guy. Aegir was leagues better than he was, surely.

Now that he'd met 'Gent' and busted the myth of his greatness, Aegir wasn't entirely sure what to do next. Or what to say. Seeing as he lived with his little family unit-and had never really socialised much outside of it-Aegir had little interest in being a social butterfly. Again, much like his Father.

Glancing about, Aegir had trouble understanding what was so great about living in these woods. Or a pack in general really. The Hollow hadn't been so great. There'd been plenty of food and it was supposedly safe, but that hadn't stopped that girl from getting hurt, or all the misfortune that seemed to linger over the Hollow wolves like a storm cloud.

Being free to go where he pleased seemed like a far better way to live. Who needed a little slice of land when he had his family?

"What makes 'em yers?"

That was another thing he didn't understand. How could someone own the land, wasn't it the Mother's? Or something along those lines?

"How can yer own dirt, trees when the Mutha made em?"

It was a curious thing this pup at his borders without his parents. Emrys didn't believe he was much older than his own children. From the boy's scent it was clear he didn't belong to a pack but there was the scent of others on his pelt, this was to be expected.

The pale leader also expected the boy to have questions and the one that he asked wasn't one that wasn’t unexpected either. “Yes, the borders of my home,” he stated. It wasn't a hard concept unless the child hadn't been taught about packs and their borders. Emrys worried this might be the case and if it were he truly worried for the child wandering around.

The look the boy gave him was also not lost on the alpha and it was bothersome. He didn't really see why pup would have such an expression especially when talking to someone they'd never met before. It was a good thing the pale leader was a patient man or he might have already lost his patience with this youngster. As he asked more questions Emrys sat back on his haunches.

“My pack, my borders,” he stated calmly. The question was very similar to the first so he reiterated his answer for the boy. The next question however was a rather good one. Emrys gave it some thought before he answered.

“She did make the land and this pack has claimed this part of it as their home while we remain settled here. You're by yourself with your mother in the lore?” He asked as a way to further his point to help the child understand.

Aegir still didn't really understand. Or more accurately, he didn't agree with what Gent was saying.

He could pee on a patch of dirt as much as he wanted, but that didn't make his claim any more legitimate. And that went without the whole pack milarky as well. His pack, so his wolves? Aegir couldn't help but quirk a brow at that.Such a cynic, even at a young age. Too much dragon blood in him, clearly. No matter how high and mighty this white wolf thought he was, there was no way he could own someone. Whether they lived within his borders or not was irrelevant.

It was then Aegir decided he would never be a pack wolf again, for you cannot cage a dragon.

Gent went on and continued and Aegir was confused once more. He'd just been talking about The Mother, so why was he asking his Ma? Did he think they were one of the same? Did he assume that the pup thought his Ma-as great as she was- was a powerful being who influenced the world without being seen? Or something like that, Aegir wasn't totally sure.

Either way, Aegir took a step forward and pawed at the invisible, smelly line in the dirt, smearing his scent all over it in a casual, if not playful manner.

"Nuh."Aegir told him, unwilling to spill all his secrets to a stranger."Got my Da and Kyri. They're about. Why'd ya ask?"

Knowing them, they were probably nearby too. As his bigs had seemingly clocked onto his sneaky, itchy paws ways.

The child was inquisitive he had to give him that but he also had to wonder if he understood the way a pack worked. Emrys wasn't sure his own children did quite yet but he felt that Hawthorne was at that point that she was starting to understand. If it hadn't been for his own mother teaching him everything that she could he probably wouldn't have when he'd joined the notch.

Since the boy was asking questions Emrys didn't mind answering them. He did find it interesting that the child would bring up the mother. He took that to mean the one that had created everything and though he had understood it as something else he did understand what the boy meant by it.

Using that knowledge he tried to set forth an example that might help the child understand a little better. The answer wasn't as he feared when asked about him and his mother. Emrys offered a smile at the boys words. “I am asking to try and use your own situation to help explain what I mean,” he told as he sat back on his haunches. It was the best way he could think to help the child.

“So you have a little family group and you go from place to place, right? Each time you stop you pick a place that will be your home for the time you're settled there before moving on, is that right?” He asked not wanting to make assumptions about the boys situation with his family. He also didn't have any desire to pry into where they were all staying or anything the child might be uncomfortable sharing. “These places that you stay. I'm sure your mother and father don't like anyone getting too close especially on account they have you? That's what it's like for us but we choose to stay in one place and our borders are like a warning to keep your distance from our home. Like your family when you move on someone else can make their home where you left and it's the same here just bigger.”

He finished up hoping it might help to make things make more sense to the boy.

Often-at Aegir's insistence- his Da explained things in detail if he didn't understand. But when he did it, he didn't ramble on or use more words than necessary. He was quick and cut to the chase, and never had he once talked so much that Aegir's attention started to slip. However, the same couldn't be said for Gent. As much as Aegir stared him down he just couldn't understand what his Father saw in him, or why he'd wanted to speak to this man. When clearly, he didn't have anything interesting to say.

Still, some credit was due, as Aegir did understand where he was coming from. This was his home yadda yadda, yes he understood that. But was the land his? Did he own it? No way. Aegir remained firm in his beliefs, just as his Da had taught him.

"I guess."He grumbled, not willing to argue the point. Instead, he cut to the chase."My Da is looking for yer. Said he wanted to talk ta yer or somethin'. Wanted ta see what's so special."

Nothing apparently. He'd have a bone to pick with his Da later, he'd give him a piece or two of his mind!Because Kyri had said it was bad to lie, and clearly his Da had lied to him. Told him a fib, a tall tale to catch the Little Dragon's attention. Maybe he'd even nip at his ankles for this, just to show him how mad he was.

The pale leader had tried to explain he he felt about owning the land and such to the pup the best he could. As he spoke he kept an eye in the pup but wasn't really sure he was getting through to him. It didn't really matter much though since this wasn't his kid and he wasn't that invested in helping him to understand. This to Emrys was a passing conversation that would be forgotten soon enough when the duties of being a leader pushed it from his mind. It was clear however that this boy did seem to be lacking in the department of manners as her caught the boy staring and had ignored it chalking it up to ignorance.

If the boys parents didn't want to teach him proper manners then they could only blame themselves for what others might do when treated badly. The situation reminded him if the wolf Kobe and for a fleeting moment he had to wonder if the rude boy was still alive.

Emrys was brought from his thoughts as the boy spoke again and the truth of why this pup had showed up at his border came out. “Is that so, and what is your father's name?” He asked wondering who exactly was looking for him. Clearly it had to be someone that he'd met in the past year as only they would know where to find him.

“Will your father be along then?” He asked of the boy for if he wasn't going to be along soon the pale leader did have things to get back to. Not to mention he wasn't that impressed with the boys behavior and didn't plan on wasting his time on another wolf who refused to listen.

Pip Mizuno-Sørenson

Pip yearned for the days when her pudgy pup's legs were shorter than hers. Aegir was becoming harder and harder to keep track of and it didn't make it any easier that he could get so far now. The mute had long since worked off her baby fat and was back to the slim waif of wolf in figure once more in no small part due to Aegir. The boy was tireless! And she was just tired.

Perhaps another mother would have written him off as off to have fun and left him alone. Not Pip. Nearly crippling anxiety would overcome the small female any time he was out of sight for too long. She didn't want to hover, but she also didn't want to lose him. It was easier to let him wander back in Grizzly Hollow. She knew those woods, knew its specific dangers and pitfalls. But these forests were all brand new and had their own set of dangers she herself was unaware of. Her boy was wicked smart, but he was reckless like his father.

She let out several bird-like chirps to call for him and stomped a paw in the leaves beneath her when she got no immediate reply. Distracted by some bauble or hurt, how could she tell the difference? Russet ears strained for any hint or sign of the growing boy. At the very least, she heard no whimpers or howls of pain. There was that.

Pip's sunset colored eyes closed in concentration as she listened. There. There. She didn't wait, instead racing through the bracken and between trees to follow the muted sound of Aegir's voice. A tic formed in her jaw. He was being disrespectful. She could hear it in his tone already. Subtle, but she knew him like she knew her own fur. Another voice, calmer and not yet riled. That was good.

She slowed as she got closer and trotted straight up to her pup after a polite nod at the male to nip Aegir's ear none too gently. It was rare for Pip to be truly cross with him, but he was being rude. She scowled at him sternly before her eyes softened. It was rare simply because she couldn't ever stay cross with him. The mute buried her muzzle in his ruff to comfort herself that he was safe.

Only then did she turn to the stranger. Alpha. His stance said it all. Even when leaders were being subdued in their dominance, Pip could always pick it out. Self-defense over the years demanded she determine quickly who was in charge. The agouti female dipped her head down in a bow. With the way it was draped across Aegir's neck, it would force the boy's down a smidge as well. If he would be respectful of his own volition, she would ensure it. The bow was not prolonged and really more comparable to a quick curtsy. Pip smiled kindly as her tail wagged slowly, draped low as it brushed the back of her legs.
