Odin Archer
You come across a mysterious blood stain near your denning area, but don't remember making a kill there.
Where have all the good guys gone?
Odin Archer

Beyond the borders of Whitestone, somewhere to the south and east was a small outcrop of rocks, though they were hardly noteworthy on the vast expanse of Tundra. Sometimes, Odin would come here and spend the night, his bright peach hued eye ever scanning the east and south for the familiar form of his mother or sister, or perhaps even the grown silhouettes of his younger siblings. The bite in the wind told him that if they weren't here soon, then they wouldn't likely make an appearance before the spring, but he held out hope. Surely things back in Torbine had not grown so dire that they would keep Morganna from her home for a full year? Would they?

Given his aversion to enclosed spaces it should have served as little surprise that the yearling preferred to tuck himself between the jutting stones rather than retreat into some dug out den. As long as he had some shelter from the wind he was fine, and perhaps that hailed as far back as his birth, the shallow bowl hastily shoveled beneath the towering stone, his mother's body providing all of the shelter they required. In fact, by the time they had been but a few weeks old they could no longer squeeze their bodies into the shallow sheltered hole. Perhaps if they had, he wouldn't feel so... panicked when he was forced underground.

So it wasn't an impending fear of a cave in that startled him from his sleep, but rather the familiar scent of blood, very thick and very close to where he slept. He pushed himself up onto lengthy limbs, head turning this way and that, perhaps expecting to see a mangy coyote or fox with a rabbit hanging from their jaws beating a hasty retreat but all that was evident was a phantom pool of blood, no trail leading to or from it. No sign of life in the range of his singular eye hindered by the dark stillness of the night.

-throws a Kipper-

It had been long enough to come by and say hello to that acquaintance she had made when she was up in the north last time. That odd, one-eyed brute with the strange accent and the playful behavior. Kip still wasn't sold on the fact that she needed a pack, but there was nothing wrong with making a... friend?... her own age. The only wolves she had ever come into contact with that had been anything near a friend had been elders in her old pack. Odin was the first among her own age that she had ever spoken to that had been a pleasant experience. The male yearlings in her old pack had been pompous assholes who seemed to think that she was nothing more than a toy for them to play with. The female yearlings had been meek and quiet, and had sent her weird looks whenever she wouldn't join them in their meticulous groomings or when she couldn't understand their fixation with pleasing the men of the pack.

Fuck those guys.

The small spirit of a wolf made her way across the dark lowlands with only the light of the moon to guide her. She honestly hadn't been expecting to catch his scent that night - in all truth, she had planned on resting somewhere near here for the rest of the night. But there it was - blown to her by the wind, and mixed with the irony tang of spilled blood. Her brow furrowed and she continued on fearlessly, her fur bristling slightly. Her pawsteps were purposefully quiet as she happened upon the boy, coming up on his flank to look down at the blood puddle before them.

"Poor bastard. Those bad wolves must've sacrificed someone," she teased, seafoam eyes glinting in the pale light as she looked at him.

He should have expected it, some sort of karmic retribution for sneaking up on her in the antler ring the way he had. Thankfully the cover of the dark did well to cover his momentary shock, the way his fur bristled along his spine and his teeth came to bare in a tight smile when he finally realised just who it was that had stumbled across his secret sleeping place. "Or maybe it was me that did the sacrificin'?" He quipped back, his smile taking a far more devious edge as he allowed his single eye to rake over the pale girl, glad to see little harm had come to her since their last encounter. "Change yer mind about my offer with a chill in the wind?" There was no accusation in his question, merely unbridled curiousity. She was the last wolf he expected to see here, of all places.

Kip rolled her eyes and offered him a slight smirk. "If it was you who sacrificed someone, you would have blood on you. But you don't, so clearly, it wasn't you. Nice try though." She bent her head down to sniff at the blood stain, scanning the ground with curious green eyes. "It's pretty weird that it's just in this one spot though. Wonder what could have done that," she went on, her curiosity genuinely piqued. She wasn't afraid though.

"Take a good look at my fur, pal," the tiny wolf commented when Odin mentioned the weather. "I grew up where there was always snow. The weather has nothing to do with it." Truth be told, she simply only had one real reason to come back up here. "I'm visiting an acquaintance. You might know him - big, brown, one eye. Kind of an oddball."

She caught him out and he offered a short bark of laughter in response, before she went back to examining the bloodstain, "I've been jus' over there fer th' better part o' th' night an' it wasn't here when I turned in," He shrugged at the mystery of it all, quickly losing interest in the unexplainable. When she responded that it wasn't the weather that had turned her back towards the north, he allowed his chest to puff a little pridefully, but it quickly deflated as she went on, "Well there's no gettin' a big ego with you around is there?" He feigned a hurt expression but quickly wiped it away with a more characterist lop sided smile. "So did yer see the forest full o' bones or did yer come back fer an escort?"

Now, Kip was certainly a much more superstitious wolf than Odin. Seafoam orbs scanned the area, longing to do nothing more than explore about and try and figure out the source of this mystery. But her companion seemed to not care, and while Kip usually wouldn't care at all about conversation in the slightest, she decided to forgo the conspiratory shit and focus on the banter at hand.

Some sadistic side of her rather liked watching that big, haughty chest deflate. It was more than likely that part of her that really liked not living up to the expectations of others. "Never have been a fan of wolves that think too highly of themselves," she stated flippantly in return, tail swishing through the air around her hocks. "And yes, I have seen the bone forest. Not as frightening as you made it out to be, but interesting for sure," she acquiesced. "This time, I was rather hoping you might show me the sparkling rock. I don't think I want to stay, not yet, but I would like to see it. If you'd be okay with going with me."

His tail waved when she mentioned she wanted to see the Monadnock. Late as it was she'd miss the best of the show if they set out now, "Sure! We'll have ter clear it with Wraith an' Piety an' yer might have ter stay th' night ter see the best o' it... We won't make it back in time ternight, think yer can put up with me fer that long?" He was expecting another biting remark in response so he braced himself for the worst she could throw at him. It was a good thing he wasn't truly that full of himself, he just like to play the part.

Kip listened to him with perked ears, deciphering his mishmash of weird words and figuring that he wanted her to stay with him for the night so that the two of them could see the sparkling rock in the morning. While not ideal, she supposed there were definitely worse ways to spend the night. So, instead of a biting remark or a sarcastic quip - since Kip really loved setting up expectations just to tear them down again - she simply gave a lopsided little smile and nod of her head. "Yeah, I guess that works, too." She took a few steps toward the place he said he had been sleeping in, seafoam eyes flicking over her shoulder. "This is the place you were sleeping anyway, isn't it?" the young wolf asked, settling down amongst the outcrop of rocks. It was a good buffer from the wind - she'd give him that. Perhaps he was a little smarter than she thought. "You coming or what?"

Odin was pleased that she wasn't so keen to be rid of him right away but  he wasn't going to give her the satisfaction of knowing it, so he watched instead, his single eye narrowing as she made her way over to where he had been sleeping, unable to keep himself from picking up the conversation from their previous encounter again. "So yer reckon they were lookin' fer you an' had ter make do with a bunny rabbit?" A tip of his head indicating back to the bloodstain as he moved to join her. "Are you just stickin' around so I'll look after yer or somethin'?" He was obviously teasing, after all, she'd done a great job of looking after herself so far.
