AW<3 || Late night/Early Morning, Clear, -15°F (-26°C)

It seemed the young girl had taken a liking to creeping in the night. Which seemed a little silly considering how cold it was starting to get. She should have been finding someone to try and steal body heat from but instead, she was weaving down a worn path. Occasionally she'd have to clamber over trees that were in her path. Even once she had to jump over an icy creek.

Her nighttime adventures tended to be less than exciting. On the rare occasion(s) she heard a sound that was strange. Although, she had never come across another sound like the scream she heard. The creature - thing - that had made the sound was still hidden but perhaps that meant it had simply gone away! What a relief that would be.

Clambering over a log without paying much attention she found herself slipping towards the ground with a soft thud. A groan left the young girl, hoping it was late enough that no one had witnessed her clumsiness.

Like the fiery-eyed girl, Sachiel was also quite taken to the night. He liked the soft, subdued colours that came with the subtle darkness. The quiet.  It was easier to concentrate—easier to map. There was still a lot of the northern forests that remained unexplored by the little agouti, which was why the night was the perfect time to adventure. Most wolves—normal wolves—were curled up tight in their dens, completely oblivious to the wonders of the night. Which made for less distractions.

Thud!

His head spun around at the sound, his ears perched high atop his head as he stumbled over his paws. Askan, the yellow-eyed loner he’d encountered previously, had mentioned a thudder during their encounter.

Why does this always happen to me?!

I’m too young to die…

The thud was followed closely by a low groan—the sound of a wolf who had slipped off a long. A frown creased his features as he stepped forward, his mismatched gaze searching through the array of fallen longs. A glint of something familiar caught his attention and the boy quickly averted his gaze away from the floating tangerine eyes. You okay? He asked the girl, concern evident in his tone.

"You okay?"

One orange eye peeled open to spot an all too familiar form. She would have given another groan but mentioning this meeting was far better than their last one she simply rolled over onto her stomach. "Yeah, 'm alright." Not really. Her back kind of felt funny now but it wasn't enough to deter her back towards the sleeping area.

"You still hanging around here? Even after that scream?" A smirk tugged at her lips as she slowly worked herself back up onto all four paws. She was surprised mentioning how spooked he had seemed at the whole thing. Granted, she hadn't exactly been the bravest at first with the whole situation. Hawthorne was more tied to this place though. She had friends here now who seemed rather happy to keep her around. And if she went home at this point who even knew if they'd be happy to see her.

That thought was quickly wiped away, for she didn't want to go and make herself sad in front of the tawny boy.

He glanced over at her quickly, his brows pinched together in a sharp V, just to make sure she was actually alright like she said she was. A frown was still pressed to his dark lips as he took a hesitant step forward. You sure? He asked, his voice soft as his head fell to the side. M’dad told me about some plants that make ouch’s better. Y’need some? Sachiel had been young at the time when his father had enlightened him about medicinal plants but he remembered most of them, along with their appearances. While he didn’t know the northern forests very well the boy was sure he could find something to help her if she was in pain.

Uh, he started, his gaze averting from hers once more when he felt her tangerine gaze fall onto him, yeah. For now. He shrugged, dismissing his words. The dark agouti wasn’t sure what his plan was—or what Diego’s was. To go north or stay in the forest… or, maybe, head west. The possibilities were endless. He just had to decide.

A brow raised slowly at the mention of plants. "My back kind hurts so I guess maybe if there's a plant for that you know about..." Her shoulders shrugged stiffly letting the rest of her words go unsaid. She'd give it a go if he was really so sure the plants would help. Hawthorne knew that Emrys had worked with plants. He always seemed to have that earthy kind of smell to him. Yet her last run in with plants - the ordeal of the skunky plant with Askan - had her feeling a bit skeptical about the whole thing.

"Whatcha mean for now?" The young girl nosily asked as she shook out her coat. "You plan on leaving?" Not that she really minded. He was his own boy and could do whatever as far as she was concerned. Sure, the same age company was nice but not necessary. She had all of her friends here who were happy to explore and run around with her. It was nice really.

He frowned at her response. Back ouch… what had his father told him about making back ouches feel better? He glanced around, his mismatched eyes scouring the area for the bark Draven had told him about—white fir. S’not really a plant, he corrected himself as he sauntered toward a nearby tree, probably won’t taste good either, but it’s supposed t’help. Rearing himself onto his back legs the agouti used his claws to break off a chunk of the bark. He padded toward her, his eyes still focused on the ground as he dropped the bark at her paws. Chew on it.

Taking several steps back the boy flopped down onto the ground, his tail curling around his hindlegs. I, uh, dono yet. Another shrug. It was the truth—he really wasn’t sure if he planned on staying or leaving. I met someone, I think they were one of your friends, he started, his ears falling to the side as he spoke, they said I could stay. I haven’t decided yet. Part of him wanted to, as he had grown quite fond of the forest and the peculiar sounds it housed. But there was still so much more. His paws were still hungry for adventure.

Her face crinkled for a moment as he brought over the bark but she took it regardless. Laying down Hawthorne wedged it between her paws and began to gnaw away at it. While she wanted instant results the girl fully expected to have to wait for them. Regardless she'd keep up her on and off chewing as her ears perked up.

"What did they look like?" She asked with a soft look on her face scrunched from the bitter taste of the bark finally catching up with her. Gross. Even if the chunk of bark he gave her wouldn't give her instant results it at least took her focus away from the dull ache. She had other questions she wanted to prod him with but figured she ought to give him some space between them.

Enough space! Curiosity had a habit of getting the best of the silver and ink girl. "Soo, you're just traveling alone then? Go wherever you want?" It sounded like an interesting concept but Hawthorne wasn't really sure if she could be alone.

An amused expression fell onto his tawny features as the girl began gnawing on the chunk of bark. He didn’t imagine it would taste very good, but he was pleased that the fiery-eyed girl had taken it without protest.

Dark, he started in response to her first question as he recalled the image of the wolf with ease, with bright yellow eyes. Askan. He nodded as the name finally hit him, his tail thumping against the ground as he surveyed the scattered logs surrounding them. He said there was a kid my age hangin’ around here—figured that was you, he added with a lazy shrug, his mismatched gaze falling to the grayscale girl briefly before he averted it once more.

His smile widened at her second question. Shouldn’t he be the one questioning her? She was alone, too—a runaway as Askan had called it. Why wasn’t he bombarding her with questions? Kinda, he answered quickly, his toes curling into the soft ground. Came up here with a, uh, friend. Him and Diego were friends, weren’t they? Travelling partners? Companions? He didn’t know what to call them. It didn’t matter. Just tryin’ to figure out what to do next. Another shrug. Something the agouti was exceptionally good at.

"Askan." She hummed the name with a smile. "He's kinda grumpy sometimes but I promise he's nice." Hawthorne informed the yellow-and-blue-eyed boy with ease. Sure Askan had his moments but Hawthorne certainly did too. She was positive everyone did! Sometimes it was hard not to slip up and get a little grumpy. "Annnd that would definitely be me." The young girl had been the youngest around the falls until this boy showed up. Now it seemed like they were tied.

He was an interesting one. Lots of almost vague answers. Hawthorne was fine with wolves being unsure but it was kind of funny seeing one be so unsure. Of course, she wasn't in much of a position to judge. "Well what do you want to do?" The young Riverflow asked sincerely with interest evident. With the bitter flavor still heavy on her tongue she ceased her gnawing for a bit, eager to hear his answer.
