For @Revon Again, Mari has a potty mouth.

She wasn't exactly sure how it had happened, but Marisol had managed to accidentally climb a mountain. She could feel it in her muscles and deep set in her bones, the throbbing ache that reminded her that this wasn't a dream. That-much to her dismay- she wasn't going to wake up anytime soon. And so, she stood upon the plateau, her toes digging into the pebbly dirt, as the moon lingered in the sky despite the fact the afternoon was well underway.

If it had not been for the sense of exhaustion that clung to her just as stubbornly as her bad attitude, she would have been impressed, glad that she'd managed to find her way out of that fucking awful forest. But damn it, it felt as though she'd escaped one shitty local in exchange for another. There was no denying that it was pretty here with all it's trees and foliage. And the fact that it was nice and flat granted her legs a well deserved reprieve but....The scent of a pack lingered on the breeze, nearby from the smell of it. Mari rolled her eyes as she approached the creek and bowed down to take a drink.

She would stay here a while, just to rest and gather her strength before she moved on. Mari was many things but she wasn't a mountain wolf. This elevation didn't suit her nor did the chill in the air, which would only increase tenfold as winter drew ever closer.

At least it was quiet here, she thought, maybe even peaceful. And from the looks of it there were plenty of places she could hide to stay out of sight of the wolves who resided nearby, whoever they were. Roaming as she did was awful lonely-not that she'd word it as such- but settling down wasn't an option either. Nor did she think anyone would want her about anyway. This was for the best, she'd keep heading northwest and see what happened as the seasons unravelled like a faded tapestry.

Revon Argyris Archer

After taking a few trips off the mountain Revon had begun to realize how much she adored the fresh mountain air and openness of the rocky terrain. For most of her life all she had ever known was the rock, but after dipping into the forests below she could not imagine living in such a covered place. Sure, there were meadows and other open-y places to explore, but it wasn’t the same. Nothing would compare to the Heights as far as she was concerned. Her mother had been born of the mountains too and after leaving for a short stint she returned to reclaim the land as her own. While her father had not been born on the mountain like her or her mother, he had adjusted to his new terrain quickly and moved with the grace of a mountain goat.

The plateau was not far from the lands her parents had claimed as their own, which meant she frequented the place often. She had slipped away from the small pack with ease, for her frame was still small enough to tuck between cracks in the rock. Their few numbers made it easy for Revon to disappear without an adult noticing, for they were all busy prepping for the winter and seldom noticed her little excursions. Or they did and just didn’t say anything. Either way it worked in the scarlet Archer’s favour.

As she made her way to the plateau a foreign scent slapped against her nostrils, causing her pace to slow and the fur on the back of her neck to stand. The stranger did not smell of one of the neighbouring packs (although she had not encountered many of them). A frown creased her lips as she stepped forward, her tangerine eyes narrowing as she searched for the origin for the smell.

The stranger looked strikingly similar to her father, but there were more blemishes in her fur, whereas her father was pure obsidian. Her nose twitched. What was this wolf doing so close to the borders? Was she aware of how close she was? Her head fell to the side as she pulled herself into a boulder several tail-lengths away from the loner. “Whaddya doin’ here?” She called out boldly, her legs tense; ready to run if need be.

These days, Mari very rarely sought out the company of others.

Believe it or not, she used to be a little more social, more forgiving and laid back. But those days were long gone,  like a memory that faded with each passing day. And yet, there were times when she felt a little ache in her heart, a dull throbbing that even at the best of times was difficult to ignore. Not every wolf was bad, she knew that. But the risk was too great, she would never allow herself to get hurt like that again. Each mistake she made was supposed to be a stepping stone on the path to somewhere else, anywhere better than here, or there. But on days like this, when she was tired and hunger gnawed on her insides the thought alone of soldiering on was almost too much.

Almost. Reyes' were a stubborn bunch, Mari had no intentions of laying down and never getting up. This place, this state of being, was only temporary. She'd be happy one day, probably.

She had only just finished her drink when a voice called out to her, snatching her attention like an owl swooping down on a rodent. She turned, her hackles raised and-great another pup. Was she a pup magnet or something? Why couldn't they just leave her be?

Her ear flicked in irritation as her ghostly grey eyes took in the red pup, bold and confident but clearly ready to run home to mummy and daddy if need be. Good. Smarter than the last one at least.

"The hell it look like?"She asked, then used her snout to motion to the creek. "I'm drinking, now scram, cachorro."

Being bold was a dangerous trait. Especially when it involved loners. She was not afraid to push buttons with her packmates, or disregard them entirely. Strangers, however, intrigued the scarlet cub. More than they should have. She also wanted to do her part in recruiting others. Who could resist a cute, inquisitive puppy?

Apparently this chick, who did not seem thrilled on having company.

The girl’s head fell to the side as the loner clapped back with a sharp response, her words like daggers being tossed through the air. Okay. So that was not what she had been expecting. Clearly the loner was not in the mood to be bothered. But Revon had other plans. She was still a safe distance away from the shadow, which meant she could flee at any given moment with a good head start. Plus she had mountain legs, which meant she would be able to maneuver over the stone with ease. Much quicker than the silver-eyed female, that was for sure. The odds, for now, were in her favour. She could work with that.

“Ca-chuh-rooo?” She repeated, her head falling to the side as her brows narrowed darkly. “Wha’s that mean?” The scarlet Archer was fascinated by the foreign word, for it was nothing she had heard before. And it rolled off the stranger’s tongue with ease. Much smoother than Revon’s feeble, butchered attempt. She also understood that the dark loner was drinking, as it was painfully obvious, but that still didn’t explain what she was actually doing her. Surely she did not climb the mountain just for a drink of water.

"Tcccht"

Typical. Why couldn't she ever catch a break, damn it? And why the hell were kids so curious? She got it, she was like this as a pup too, always asking chato questions about this and that. Why was the sky blue? Why was grass green? That sort of thing, but she never knew how annoying it was to be on the receiving end. To Gabi's credit he had taken it like a champ, but the same couldn't be said for little old Mari. Each question was like a needle in her skin and these days it felt like she had more of then than strands of fur.

"Means you, puppy. Who else would I be talking to, you see anyone else out here?"She gestured about with a wave of her snout. The plateau was empty, aside from the two of them.

She turned away from the pup and flicked her tail indignantly, a wolfish version of a putting up the middle-finger.

Again, she felt the urge to spurt out the same old lecture. Didn't your parents teach you not to talk to strangers?Bla bla bla, she was so tired of it all, tired of cleaning up after other people's messes. She just weren't no good with kids, not like chato or la llorona. And yet, they came to her in droves, like the world just had to shove her face into the dirt over and over till she couldn't take it no more.

"Now go home. I ain't here for your amusement."As scraggly as she was, Mari doubted that she was a feast for eyes.

She knew she was being annoying but that did not deter the little fox. No, it was fuelling her. The ebony loner was giving her precisely what she wanted. A reaction. A lopsided smirk tugged on her dark lips as she studied the silver-eyed female, her hindquarters remaining firmly planted to the stone as her tail folded neatly atop her paws. “Maybe you’re talking to yourself,” she retorted quickly, a single brow arched as she tipped her head to the side. Being lippy wasn’t necessarily a good idea, considering the difference in their size, but she was not far from home. Within shouting distance if needed. A hop, skip and a jump away from the Aurora borders. From mom and dad. The tip of her tail twitched, her nose pointed toward the dark loner as she turned around, flipping her off via her tail.

Rude.

She exhaled sharply out of her nose, her fiery gaze fixated on the strange loner. Despite her growing frustration, and the female’s dismissive tone, the Archer remained where she was. Go home, she said. Go home?! Another snort—this time out of amusement rather than irritation. “I am home.” Dummy. You go home.” Revon did not know where the sudden burst of bravery came from, but her paws remained rooted. She could not flee now—not after speaking so boldly to the scrawny loner. The little princess would have to stand her ground. This sharp-tongued wolf was awfully close to the Aurora borders, and her parents wouldn’t like that. Not unless the ebony wolf intended on joining their small pack.

Mari shot her sharp look and quirked her brow, as if to say  'really, is that how you're going to play it?'

She was certainly one who liked to push her luck, wasn't she? A girl after her own heart. The sort of kid Mari used to be, back when she could afford to be so carefree and oblivious. Times had changed, once she would have found this pretty damn amusing but now Mari only saw the fiery child as a pest, a menace.

Marisol expected backchat, hell that's what she would have done when she was her age, but hearing it made her jaw tickin irritation nonetheless.

"That's bullshit."She scoffed, not bothering to mind her language. Then again, when did she ever? "You think I'm nose blind? Tccht. I know damn well where you're from, where your padres' borders are. This ain't your home, it's no ones, so keep walking."

She had a point though, she was pretty close. But the way Mari saw it, she wasn't close enough to warrant anything overly dramatic. She hadn't done or said anything that suggested she was here to make trouble, she was just trying to get by. Was there anything wrong with that?

Revon Argyris Archer

The ebony wolf continued to grow annoyed with the scarlet fox. Perfect. Her lips fell into a thin, straight line as she observed the loner, the dark tip of her tail twitching. Perhaps if she kept annoying the silver-eyed wolf she would turn away from the borders and disappear into the mountain. Away from Aurora. She didn’t think her parents would want such a sharp-tongued wolf lurking so close to their borders or joining their ranks. Revon was doing them a favour, really.

Bullshit? That was a new word to add to the fox’s vocabulary. While the loner was dreadfully annoying Revon was learning new things from her. “Nah,” the girl answered quickly, her maw canted to the side: You’re bullshit.” That was much bolder than she had expected, but it was too late to retrieve the words. They hung, suspended, in the air between them. Despite the sudden panic that pumped through her veins the scarlet Archer remained as clam as possible, her fiery gaze never once wavering from the loner’s dark figure.

“I was here first,” she grumbled in response, a single brow raised. She had to bite her tongue from saying anything else. Just because they were close to her parents’ borders did not mean the stranger wouldn’t be above attacking the girl, or pup-napping her. She wasn’t interested in losing an ear or her tail—not this early on in life.

Did she even know what that meant? Or was the pup simply mimicking her like a shitty, canine version of a mockingbird? Mari gritted her teeth. If she had hands they would have been on her hips by now. What the hell was she supposed to do? She wasn't gonna pick a fight with a pup, as annoying as she was, so then what? That's all Mari knew, really. Fighting and talking smack, without those she was like a fish out of water.

"You even know what you're saying? I should hurt you real bad for that."She sneered, her tail lashing behind her like a cat-o-nine-tails. "And even if you were here first, you think I care? Think that argument flies in the real word, outside your parents borders?" She rolled her eyes.

She was definitely the pup of a leading pair, she could almost smell her smugness. How much of a princess she was, how she could do no wrong. Mari at least had to give the kid credit where it was due. Either she was brave as hell, or just as stupid. Mari honestly couldn't decide which. Not that she put too much thought into it, that'd be a damn waste of time and effort. Like arguing with those awful trees, shit she'd never live that down, would she?
