Laike Artemieva
Backdated slightly to 10/8, day after meeting with Ade. @Jessie @Drestig but please let @Adelayde post first. || On the borders, Morning, Cloudy, 44°F (7°C)

This was it, it seemed. The large duo had discussed things just yesterday but he ushered her to go sleep with her packmates and enjoy their company another night before he likely stole her warmth and touch. It would also give her time to simmer in the idea of him becoming a more prominent figure. Laike wanted to be there for Adelayde, he wanted a future with her, he wanted to be there for her more than just once a month. So much seemed to happen in between their visits and instead of being there for just the aftermath he wanted to be there for all of it. He wanted to be there for her when she needed him most.

Before any of that could happen he had one more hurdle to overcome. He needed to seek acceptance from the leaders of the Rye themselves. Had Adelayde told them anything? He would be as honest as possible with them and while he was here for her he wanted to make sure that they could rely on him to pull his weight.

With a deep breath he tipped his head back and called out for the leaders of Wild Rye Fields.

Adelayde Artemieva

Un-gluing herself from the pale Artemieva's side was a feat in itself when she realized her Laike was going to join the Rye pack to be by her side not for just once a month, but everyday. There wasn't a moment in the time they were together the day before that she feared the changes that would follow in their relationship. Instead, she was excited for them, Ade intended to embrace them with every fiber of her existence. The tawny girl knew it was going to be different than what she was used, what they were used to, but she wouldn't have wanted it any other way.

However, as the night drew upon them that day, Laike ushered her to the communal den to spend the night with them instead of him which the woman was rather reluctant to comply with his desires. She understood his underlying reason even if he did not utter them. Laike joining the Rye pack was going to be drastic change to their relationship. But she was ready. Ade was ready for this change.

Hardly able to sleep as her excited mind kept her awake throughout the night, she was the first awake at dawn. The Snow woman sped off in the direction she had left him the night before. However, he was quicker than her to arise as his baritone howl flooded the fields for her alphas presence. Her ocean gaze quickly found his form upon the borders and she lovingly met him with a set of kisses and a gentle embrace this time around. Meeting his fiery gaze as she took a step back from him, "There's no need to worry. They will love you." Just like I do.

Drestig Avalon

A call in the distance, someone begging the presence of the Field alphas. These howls used to be exciting, even when they happened as frequently as every other day. But now the king wasn’t so sure what to feel. As he headed northeast to answer, he wondered who this one might be. A potential joiner? How long would they stay then? Just the thought of his usual speech made the leader feel sick, what did it matter to speak of loyalty and family, if the listener would simply agree plainly, only to disregard their promises later? His trust had been broken so many times, and some of the most recent wounds were painfully deep and raw.

At the same time he hated himself for thinking like this. Had he finally become as jaded as his mate? Distrustful of anyone who came to seek a home within his borders? He didn’t want to be like that, he wanted to open, speak honestly and trust that he received honesty in return. When he formed WIld Rye FIelds he’d wanted it to be a home, to his own family, and to anyone else who might need it. But it came with a price, as these thing always did, and perhaps he had been foolish to believe that everyone could handle that, in exchange for the companionship they offered. He truly wanted everyone in the Fields to be a family, and it hurt him deeply to think they had felt so differently.

He shook his head, trying to clear the heavy thoughts before he reached the border. No, he wouldn’t take what had happened out on whoever might be waiting there, he wasn’t ready to give up on his belief in second chances; Not quite yet! But he was relieved when he came close enough to recognize the two figures waiting near the gateway, even managing a slight smile to greet his subordinate and her friend. “Good to see you again,” he barked warmly, nodding towards the both of them - and paying little notice to their close contact; “Any news from the River?” It seemed a likely assumption that Laike had come as a messenger, after all, if he was just here to see Adelayde there had been no reason to call the Rye leaders. And yet, there was something about him that made the greying man quirk a brow, the tiniest tilt to his head as he waited; Hopefully it’s not more bad news..!

Laike Artemieva
-digs out of The Funk-

LAIKE ARTEMIEVA

Adelayde was the first to greet him - no surprise there - and he welcomed her fully. He let out a gentle rumble, bumping against her gently. "I sure hope so." Laike had made his impression upon the tall Rye second but he still had the upper ranks to impress.

The second figure to appear was a familiar older gentleman. Laike offered a warm smile, respectfully positioning himself lower. "Ah, the River is fairing. Strong as the trees they live in." He wasn't joking or being sarcastic. Hearthwood River had been a hardy band of wolves who pulled through. Even after all the losses. "I'm not here on River business, though." The large male explained as his gaze flickered to Adelayde before drifting back to the older male.

He had done this before but this felt different. Laike wasn't joining just for himself. He was here for Adelayde too because being away from her had become harder to handle with the passing of time. "I'm interested in joining the Rye. I've left on good terms with Hearthwood River." He tossed that out there in case there was worry of possible conflict. Lachesis had seemed to understand and Laike was forever grateful for the kind ghost - even if saying goodbye had been terribly hard.

Adelayde Artemieva

The gentle rumble that riveted through him as she embraced him, solidified the fact that this was actually happening and wasn't just a silly dream she was having in her den. Pulling away from him, she flashed him a wide, encouraging smile hoping he'd get the message that this truly was going to go absolutely smoothly. She knew it. The beta knew her alphas, knew how forgiving and welcoming they were to strangers and Laike wasn't much of a stranger, even more so, she believed they'd welcome her love with open arms.

As she waited besides him, as a united front, the dark form of Drestig made an appearance through the dying wild rye. Returning a friendly smile to her alpha, he addressed Laike with warm words as her gaze glancing towards Laike to see what his next words were to be. She was relieved to hear again that even with Laike's leave, the River wolves were faring well and still going strong. The beta only hoped for the best for their neighbors as the rye too have had their ups and downs, but they were still standing.

Meeting his fiery gaze as he glanced at her, a smile gracing her ebony lips again as he announced his intentions to join the Rye. Mismatched eyes finally turned towards Drestig, hoping she wouldn't be surprised by his reaction.

Drestig Avalon
SO SORRY for the hold up you guys, srsly needed to get all my ducks in a row '>.> One more round and we can get him on the roster officially.

The initial response was a relief, and Drestig’s smile widened, tail wagging steadfastly behind him. He wasn’t sure he could have dealt with any more bad news. As Laike continued, a small creased formed between the alpha’s brows though, head tilting a little more. “Oh..?” he asked, pursing his lips; voice not unfriendly, but with a hint of caution all the same - he’d had a few too many unpleasant surprises as of late.

This time, he noticed the shared gaze between the two of them, brows rising higher at their close contact and the tender smile on Adelayde’s face. He was old enough to have seen that expression many times over, and he mentally shook his head for not realizing sooner, just how serious things were between them. For a split second, he feared what might be coming next, but the pale lad’s proclamation quickly eased his mind, and dark lips parted in a small, crooked smile; Serious indeed..! The Rye king nodded his head, looking between the pair with a humorous glint in his ember eyes. “Very well then, I see no reason why you shouldn’t be welcome here,” he answered the light-pelted male, giving an approving smile. As long as his departure from the River had been proper and with Lachesis’ understanding, Drestig was not about to put up any protests to keep the lovers apart. In truth, Laike would be a welcome addition to the Fields’ shrunken numbers.

Still wagging his tail, the elder male straightened up slightly, clearing his throat; “Though, just for good measure, I should ask about your skills. Is there a specific role you might want to seek within our ranks? Or any craft you have already been practicing in Heathwood?” It was more of a formality really, though it would spare them a conversation later on. At the moment they had a need for all sorts, and Drestig couldn’t imagine an answer that would make him turn the young man away. But he knew @Jessie would appreciate him having asked, so they could get a clear picture of where in the pack Laike would fit in.

LAIKE ARTEMIEVA

Laike could not stop his tail from giving a few short wags. @Adelayde had been right and while he was in no way surprised, perhaps he owed her an apology for even being worried in the first place. But apologies and affections could be given once they finished up business here with Drestig.

The question about roles should have been expected. Just because he was making the move the be closer to his girl didn't mean he was here to do nothing else. "I was kind of an unofficial guardian." That would likely seem generic considering his bulky form even if he wasn't lumbering above everyone. "I also make a good long distance scout. I'm sure not a speedy runner but my stamina is good." Scouting was not his favorite thing to do but it was still a skill he was willing to offer the Rye alpha.

Seeing the relief on Laike’s face made the dark man smile, his own tail wagging in tune. He was happy for Adelayde, no longer having to run back and forth between the two packs. And, perhaps selfishly, relieved too, that their choice had fallen here, rather than across the way; I’m not sure I could handle another loss..! But instead, the Fields had gained another member, and the leader listened attentively as he explained his skills. Lips pursed at the words, a small crease forming between silvered brows as the alpha nodded to himself. “We could use a guardian,” he admitted, slowly, feeling a small stab in his chest at the words. But it was probably the position they most needed filled, even if Laike - however genial and adept a wolf he most certainly was - could never replace the predecessors.

That was no fault of the pale chap’s though, and Drestig forced another smile, nodding again, as if agreeing with himself. Then he looked towards the tawny second, his expression growing softer and more genuine. No, it wasn’t on her or her beau, what had happened, and they deserved commendation for sticking with the pack through and despite it. The aging king waved his tail slowly, bowing his head lightly to Adelayde as a silent thanks, before turning back to their new recruit; “But we’ll get back to all that at a later time. For now, welcome to Wild Rye Fields.” He stepped forwards to mark Laike with the scent of the pack, and smiled at the couple; “I’m sure Ade will be happy to show you around.” Those were his parting words, as he left them to celebrate as they saw fit. He’d have plenty of time to get to know his new member later on.

Adelayde Artemieva

Silence fell over her as her beloved and alpha began their conversation, her bi-colored eyes searching Drestig face as he deliberated his verdict. There wasn't a doubt in her that Laike wouldn't be accepted by Drestig, but there was always a slight fear that the gods would rob her of her happiness and strike this opportunity down. Adelayde wasn't shocked to hear Laike had been a guardian within Hearthwood River. The pale agouti male was quite stocky so it was quite expected from the lawful man. Though Adelayde was bulky herself, she would rather pursue the role of adviser as she rather didn't like the act of punishing others if need be if she was an official Rye guardian. Though regardless, she would fight with all she had if any Rye wolf was in danger.

Sharing the sharp pang in her heart that Drestig had when he mentioned they were in need of a guardian. @Askan and @Reyes' leave left them without official guardians, while Ade and @Aleksei tried to fill in the empty shoes, it was nothing compared to the past duo and the passion they held in protecting the Rye. They had spent all of their time protecting them and having them gone was very evident. It hurt to see them go, but Adelayde could only hope they found happiness, like she was potentially about to have with Laike joining her within the fields. Reminding herself then she wanted to make a scouting trip in the warmer weather and find out where they had settled.

Meeting Drestig's gaze as he turned to her in silence, his mask growing soft and pleased as he looked upon his loyal second. She was filled with shock when her leader bowed his head to her in silent thanks. Adelayde could feel what he meant with his sentiment. He was thankful for her loyalty and the decision she made to stay within the Rye instead of joining Laike in Hearthwood. Ade's smile broadened as he announced Laike's acceptance, her feelings bubbled inside as she waited almost impatiently for Drestig to finish. Her tawny body wiggling with excitement as Drestig turned to leave, her happiness blurted out, "Thank you sir, so so much! Thank you!" Turning then to Laike after Drestig was further away, she pounced upon him with bubbling laughter as her salmon tongue planted kisses throughout his pale fur. She couldn't contain the happiness that filled her in this moment. Ade was just so happy!
