Kajika Tallis
Takes place right after This Thread.@Solas

After leaving the site of the graves Kajika led Solas through the territory to a place he thought they would have pretty good luck. He wanted them to be able to bring something like a deer down for the caches. With it being as cold as it has been he wasn't too worried that they might be over filling the caches. The more food they had the better as far as he was concerned. If they could get ahead they would be better off once the worst of winter arrived.

“I think we will have some luck here,” he stated taking a deep breath before releasing it. “There's usually deer in the forest here and if we go a little further up that way,” he indicated a little to his right and ahead with his muzzle, “We could catch the trail of some goats.”

Between the two of them he thought they could bring down either. Both would be good to add to the cache but the goats might be a little trickier. He turned back to Solas, “Which do you feel more comfortable with?”

Solas ColdHeart
He followed Kajika out of the territory and towards the mountain. He had traveled through here a couple of times when he had been searching for the pack. He hadn't really tried to hunt anything other than small game but since there was two of them he knew that they could bring down something a bigger. Assuming luck was on there side.

Kajika told him that this was probably a good spot to hunt and Solas nodded in agreement before his leader went on to say that they could try and find some deer in the forest or they could try and find some goats. He was most familiar with deer but a goat sounded like a good challenge. With it being cold yet and the dew still not all the way evaporated they could try and use that to their advantage on the rocks of the mountain. It would mean slippery footing for the goats but it would also mean slippery footing for them.

I'm more familiar with deer but we might be able to use the morning dew and the cold weather to our advantage on the rocks if we go for the goats. Solas commented. Of course we could always chase the deer towards the mountain. Deer wouldn't be as good with the steep slopes as a goat would be.

Kajika Tallis

Kajika didn't much like being the leader who only gave orders and expect them to be carried out. He much rather hear what his subordinates thought, give them the chance to voice their opinions. He felt that Vespertio had led that way and the dark alpha had always respected the agouti man. It was times like this when he did miss the Vuesain pair more than other times. He sometimes even found himself asking what they would do in such a situation. They were there now though so he had to go with his own instincts.

He had given Solas their choices once they had reached the place Kajika felt they would have the best luck. Then he listened as the paler male spoke his opinions on the matter. He felt Anthem's son had good ideas which didn't surprise him one bit, Anthem got as far as he did for a reason. He gave some thought to what had been said since they would have to be smart and careful if they went after the goats so neither of them would get hurt. A good solid plan would have to be formed that didn't allow for mistakes.

“We can do either, the deer would certainly be easier but I think a goat would be a nice change for the pack. We can check out how we can get one of the goats without killing ourselves and if we can't then the deer can be our plan B.” It sounded like a good plan to him but they still needed to know if it was worth risking their necks for a goat.” If the dark alpha were honest he would rather have a goat since not only it challenged their skills but it was something different than deer and rabbits.

Solas ColdHeart
Solas waited for Kajika's response as his gaze wandered to the mountain. It was an interesting sight with the morning sun hitting the side of it. He could also see patches of shadow and he knew that the dew wouldn't evaporate for some time which made those spots perfect for tripping prey. On the downside it could trip either of them and that was not something that they wanted. There was no healer in the pack so they needed to be especially careful.

His companion responded that he thought a goat would be a nice change of pace for everyone and if all else failed they could try and find a deer. Sounds like we have a plan so we might as well get going then. Solas responded back as he started up the looming mountain. If they wanted to find a goat he figured that they would be up higher where most predators didn't want to risk the footing.

Have you ever hunted goats before? He questioned glancing towards Kajika. The stormy male hadn't so this was going to be an interesting experience for him. If his companion had this might go a lot easier for the both of them, but goats weren't something wolves normally hunted. Deer and rabbits being the most common prey choice.

There was more than just the idea of the pack having something different than deer and rabbits in their cache that made the goats a more appealing choice. It was also the skill for both of them, it would give them the opportunity to broaden their skill base to include hunting on the mountain side for goats. Since they lived on the mountain it was a necessary skill to have. It was dangerous and anything could happen but he felt if they worked together than they would be successful without incident.

Having stated they should try for a goat and go for a deer if that didn't work out he nodded when Solas said it sounded like they had a plan. “We should, the sooner we get started the better in case we have to go after the deer.” He started up the mountain where they would need to go to find a goat and they would also be able to further their plan for bringing it down.

“No, this will be my first time,” he said when asked about hunting goats. “I am not really sure why we've never hunted them before as a pack or in pairs,” he added thoughtfully. Perhaps it was something they would have to do more often since the goats were there why shouldn't they take advantage.

This was going to be an interesting challenge for them. If they could bring one of the goats down then they might be able to do so again when prey was scarce in winter. It would also mean that they wouldn't have to rely on the deer and rabbits to keep their bellies full like most of the other packs. Overall going for a goat was starting to sound like a really good idea.

Kajika agreed that they should get started in case they had to go to plan b and find a deer. Solas hoped that they would be able to catch a goat but since this was going to be a first for both of them they there was a higher chance they would fail. They also needed to find a goat first.

Maybe because they like to ram things that get in there way. Solas commented wryly. He had seen them going at each other before and he figured that they might just go after a wolf that was hunting it. A wounded wolf was a hungry wolf unless they had a pack or someone to fall back on. He continued to go up the mountain curious as to how far the two of them would need to go to find one of the pale creatures.

The dark alpha was hoping that he and Solas would be successful in this hunt and that they wouldn't have to resort to hunting deer. There was just no way of telling how well it would or wouldn't go. Their inexperience was stacked against them in this situation but he hoped that it wouldn't prove to be what led to them losing their chance at catching one of the goats for their caches.

It was imperative they didn't waste time just in case they weren't successful. Kajika wanted them to bring something home whether it was a goat or a deer so that there was something added to the cache. It was important they were successful as often as possible with winter coming so they wouldn't have to worry later in the season when prey would inevitably become scarce.

The alpha chuckled at Solas comment, “Maybe so. If we are successful that can all change and we can get the others out here to improve their skills.” Having their pack members become skilled at hunting goats would be ideal so that they could all bring them home. “We should survey the area first to see what we are dealing with before we get the goats riled,” he said as their trek up the mountain continued and he looked for a good place to go after the goats.

It would be better if they found a younger goat or one that already had an injury that way it would put the odds in there favor a bit more and when it came to hunting every little bit helped. Would goats be used to wolves hunting them? He hadn't seen anything or heard anything that would imply that the goats on these mountains were regularly hunted. If they were just as inexperienced at being hunted that they might make some more mistakes than what a wiser deer might make.

Solas felt his lips twist into a brief smile. Even if we're not we can still work on improving our skills. Just because they might fail this time around didn't mean that they would fail every single time. The more they tried the more their chances improved. Think we should find an area with a ledge so we can try and push the goat off it if we can't bring it down? Solas asked eyes scanning the area trying to find a spot that might work to there advantage. If they could get a goat to fall from a decent height most of the work would be done for them.

While hunting the goats whatever advantages they could find. Pushing them on to a more slippery ledge, one of them being injured or sick, young and inexperienced. Anything that would make it so they had a better chance of being successful in their hunt. It was best to watch them for a little bit to see if any of them showed signs of the things the dark alpha was looking for. They needed to pick carefully and plan carefully if they were to both return home and not with empty jaws.

The cove leader nodded at his subordinates words, “That is very true and the next time we can be successful.” At least the was ideal if they weren't successful this time but even he would admit it could take a lot of practice before they were skilled enough. Kajika turned his head to look at Solas after his suggestion, “It's a solid plan,” and one that he liked. “All we will have to do is get it to the ledge then.” The alpha searched the cliff face that would work for their plan. “What about that one?” He asked indicating the one he spoke of with his muzzle. It wasn't too far up and was big enough to fit a goat and one of them. It also had a smaller ledge above it where the other could wait.
