Adeltra Archer
This will start out in Ghastly woods right after this thread but take place mostly in Skyfall Glen. Set on Dec. 2nd around noon. @Cyril

While she’d been out hunting the young Archer had found a place she’d thought absolutely mesmerizing. A large lake that reflected the sky perfectly, with calming, lapping waves and soft soil. It was almost ethereal, but more importantly it seemed to cocoon her. All sounds besides her own breathing and the movement of water ceased and when she’d closed her eyes she felt the most peaceful she’d felt in the past three months. She knew as soon as she felt it that she wanted to show this to Cyril, so after she’d attempted to convince him to take some of the hare she’d left him alone again and munched on whatever he’d had left.

After giving him some breathing room she’d returned, her voice gentle and coaxing. “Hey, when I was out I found this really cool place. You don’t have to come, but it’s quiet and I think you’d like it,” she informed. “I’ll keep my big mouth shut, promise. And you don’t even have to walk next to me, just follow along then I’ll leave you alone if you want to be,” she finalized, then lifted her paw to her jaws in the same fashion she’d done at the cave symbolizing her lips were sealed from that point on. Then, the dark girl turned and started to head toward the lake leaving it to her friend as to whether or not he would join her.

feel free to PP cyril if needed <3

Willing himself to eat was a difficult task. He didn’t want to do much of anything. Walking, talking, breathing. Most of the time he just wanted to sleep but he couldn’t. He couldn’t do that to his mother. Not only had he lost his father but Piety had lost her mate—the man she had created a family with, a life with. Cyril couldn’t be selfish, but it was so hard.

Adeltra had returned after disappearing for awhile, her voice soft as she attempted to lure Cyril away. It was not pushy, not like Oksana had been. No, the raven-clad girl from the Kingswood had been persistent and desperate; suffocating. He felt bad for the lost girl, for she had gotten separated from her family and thrust into tragedy upon arriving in the north. Now she was stuck with a pawful of brooding wolves who were mourning the loss of a loved one.

He reluctantly complied, his brows narrowed darkly as a low grunt passed through his lips. Dragging his paws across the forest floor he followed the ebony girl, his ears pinned against the back of his skull, shoulders sagging. Cyril was only following the girl to appease his mother, as he did not need her worrying about him…

Her friend gave a low grunt in reply which was, quite frankly, more than she’d hoped for. With how grudgingly he’d eaten the rabbit she was sure he’d just plop himself down a not follow. And, in that scenario, true to her word she wouldn’t have blamed him any for it. Just putting one paw in front of the other amazed her, she couldn’t imagine losing either of her parents. Especially not in such a gory, horrible fashion. That he was, and Piety as well, was amazing and for them to take her home even under their circumstances was something she would never be able to repay them for. Still, she was trying her best in what little ways she could. Maybe when she was queen of the willows she’d have her pack drop a deer on the doorstep of wherever they landed, but until then she’d just ease Piety’s mind by keeping Cyril occupied in whatever little time they had left together and attempt to swat away some of the clouds hovering over her friend’s mind.

After several minutes of walking, the only sound being their breathing and their paws crunching on the ground, they pushed past the barriers of the treeline and Addy was quick to step to the side. She lifted her head and took a deep breath, filling her lungs with cold air but out of the corner of her eye she watched the dark boy’s reaction.

While he wasn’t any good at showing it—especially now—he was thankful for the lost princess. She did not force conversation upon him, allowing silence to cascade around them as they trudged on through the trees. Part of him worried about straying away from his mother, for he felt responsible for her. He feared something would happen to her while he was gone. That something would happen to him. But he knew his sulking was only making things worse. Making his mother worry about him when she did not need to. Plus, they would be dropping Adeltra off at the Ridge’s doorstep soon, and he would no longer have her company so readily available…

As they stepped past the treeline the lost princess stepped to the side and Cyril’s yellow gaze immediately narrowed. No words fell from his lips, not even a twitch from his tail, but his ears cupped forward. Under normal circumstances the boy would have sprinted forward, tumbling into the water and begging the girl to join him. His world had flipped upside down with the death of his father, and it was difficult even pretending to be happy. But he was trying, for his mother. For little Addy.

So he stepped forward, his golden orbs fixated on the pool of water before them. It was pretty nice…

If it had been any other time she could picture her friend letting out all sorts of excited shouts and running around with her, but in that moment all he could do was stare bleakly out across the surface. She was happy with the little bit of interest he showed, exemplified in the perking of his ears and the narrowing of his eyes. Adeltra knew that was all she was going to be getting and she made do with it, a small smile settling onto her features. This was one of the last times they would be able to be together because in a few short days she would be home and they would be on their way to wherever it was that they were going. The thought made her chest feel heavy but she was quick to shove it off. It was a selfish thing to feel sad to see him go, she knew. While it was likely natural she knew she had to let him go, let him find his way out of the darkness he was in even if she wanted to be there to help guide him through.

She moved toward the lake, rubbing her toes in the chalky shore before rolling onto her back and wriggling in the dusty stuff. When she rolled back to her paws she was patched with white, her fur sticking out this way and that and likely a sight to see. She gave herself a good shake, chalk flying into the air and surrounding her in a white cloud. Then, without a word, she turned and headed toward the water. A tongue could only do so much and she ought to look somewhat presentable to see her family. She paused at the shore, hesitantly moving a paw forward to dip it into the lake. She leapt back with a yelp. Boy, was it cold! She hesitating a moment longer before taking a breath so big that it puffed out her chest, setting her resolve, then backed up a little. Suddenly, she was surging forward and flinging herself into the water. “Coldcoldcold,” she chattered but wandered a little more. She stayed where her feet could touch, but just barely. Her head bobbed above the water, steam floating from her nose from the cold environment as she went.

He wanted to be excited. To jump into the water, sending a cascade of cold liquid over his ebony friend. Taunt her with playful words and actually enjoy the secluded watering hole Adeltra had found.

Instead he remained fixated to the shore, his toes curled into the soft ground. His lifeless yellow orbs followed her dark figure as she flopped onto the dusty ground, causing his nose to wrinkle. As she rolled around the ground she began to look less like an Archer and more like his mother. He almost smiled. The corners of his eyes crinkled in amusement as he watched her shuffle over to the water, a single brow arched. He winced as his friend recoiled from the frigid water, a yelp escaping her. Despite the negative reaction, she pursued the water once more, tossing her lithe body into the pool without hesitation. He stumbled forward, his eyes narrowing with concern. Coldcoldcold. He shivered, despite his paws remaining on dry land, nostrils flaring.

Cyril had stopped taking care of his appearance; he had no interest in following the ebony Archer. He was positive there was some of his father’s blood still clinging to his fur, but he didn’t care. Instead of joining her Cyril lowered his hindquarters to the ground, causing another cloud of chalk to resurface and surround him. He pawed at the water absently, causing ripples to scatter across the surface toward Adeltra’s partially submerged body.

After a few moments the girl was starting to feel numb and, deciding that probably wasn’t the best thing, she started to move toward shore. Cyril was just sitting there, absently pawing at the water. Her heart squeezed and she tried to think of other ways to get his mind elsewhere than its current dark state. Then, an idea came to mind. A bit of mischief played in her amber-yellow gaze as she went, clambering her way out not too far away from her friend. Then, she began to shake. Large amounts of droplets came from her waterlogged coat, spraying in all directions. Then, she pranced away on her tiptoes like she’d done nothing wrong. Her gaze flickered back, wondering if he would retaliate or sit there.

He toyed with the idea of jumping in, even if the water was freezing cold. Just to appease his friend, who was doing everything possible to distract the sullen boy. It was sort of working, but it was difficult for him to shake the dark thoughts from his mind. The death of his father was still too fresh, a bitter pill to swallow. Moving forward would be difficult, but he had to. For his mother, who needed him just as much as he needed her.

Wait—had it started raining?

He blinked, his brows knitted together as a low growl tumbled out from deep within his chest, his nose wrinkling in frustration. No—it wasn’t the rain. It was her. The girl had pranced away, acting as though she had done nothing wrong. He rolled his eyes dramatically in response, the tip of his tail twitching in amusement. Okay, so she wanted to play that game…

Without warning the charcoal cub slapped the surface of the small pool with one of his oversized paws in hopes of sending a small tidal wave in the girl’s direction.

At first she was worried that she’d really annoyed him when a growl rumbled from his chest, her steps slowing. But then a bit of his mischief and sassiness seemed to reemerge and her heart leapt for joy. There he was, the old Cyril! She thanked whatever powers there were(still not knowing about her family’s faith to the old gods) for this sudden change. He moved quickly, slapping the water with his way and sending a splash of water in her direction. She shrieked as she was soaked again, a bright grin settling itself onto her maw. She lowered herself into a playing position, butt wiggling comically in the air as her amber-yellow gaze narrowed. Oh she had another way to return the favor.

Addy rushed forward, bowling into him with all her might hoping to pin him down. Then, she started rubbing her wet fur all over him, a laugh escaping her jaws. See what he’d do about that!
