Lachesis "XIX" Stark
tags for @Askan and @Reyes but any Edgy members welcome~
dated for February 7, set after the move & this thread

scouting dem 1/3

Now that he had taken care of White Fir Notch (or what was left of it) it was time for Lachesis to make a trip south. He could have sent Lilya, or even Aytigin, but he thought it was best for him to visit his friends himself. And there was the added bonus of running into his nephew, @Seven, for he was curious as to how the teen was fairing in his uncle’s pack. If that was where he ended up settling, for Lachesis was not sure what had happened to him. He had assured the Stark that he would return to the Kingswood if things didn’t work out in the shallows, and he took it as a good sign that he had not seen the peppered yearling since their bizarre meeting. He had yet to encounter one of the boy’s siblings, so XIX also hoped that he had been reunited with them, or was at least aware of their whereabouts.

It didn’t take him long to make it to the forest that engulfed the Edgy pack, which made him even happier about his move. There was still a day and a half between them, which he hoped was enough distance for his grumpy friend(s). Lachesis did not intend on moving the pack a second time (technically third time, as the river pack had already shuffled once before). He already felt happier at the banks of the mountain river. The stress he had carried for months had been left behind amongst the towering cedars and he had no intention of recollecting them.

Upon his arrival at the borders of the Edge territory Lachesis made sure to keep his distance. Just because he was friends with the grumpy couple did not mean he could waltz across the borders at his leisure. He was quick to throw his head back to the sky, beckoning one (or both) of the leaders forward. He’d even settle for one of their subordinates.

Askan Selwyn
Guardian dem 1/3
@Reyes , if you wanna have a threesome

These days it was too fucking cold to get anything done. Askan's coat was thick and plush, after all he made a habit of nibbling away at it and keeping it well groomed. But shit, nice coat or not he was cold pretty much all the damn time. If he kept moving it wasn't as bad, but there was only so much he could do when the snow was up to his elbows and the wind roared in his ears. Waiting it out in the dens seemed to be the best course of action but after a couple of days like this he was more than a little antsy. His borders needed patrolling, not to mention he was bored.

So cold or not he pushed on through the snow, relieved that the wind had blown on by, probably battering other parts of the Lore for the time being. Hopefully it wouldn't return anytime soon, though he wasn't going to start holding his breath.

Meandering around the Shallows, Askan lingered between the trees to the north of his territory. During the winter the Field had always felt so barren and lifeless, but here even if it was quiet there were still signs of life, birds in the branches and tiny footprints in the snow. He leaned down to sniff at the track and lo and behold, it was reasonably fresh. All of the stores in the caches had been frozen solid, the prospect of a warm meal made his stomach rumble in anticipation. It had to be close maybe if he- and then a call rang through the air and ruined his plans.

With a huff and a handful of curses muttered under his breath, Askan abandoned the trail and traipsed towards the borders, his pace anything but slow and leisurely. He liked to be first on the scene, as he was boss around here but really, his old habits died hard, he was still a Guardian through and through.

Slowing, Askan's tail angled up behind him. Who was calling this time? Another loner who was all too likely to disappoint him,or someone of worth? Oh, it was the latter. The Old Man himself, Lach.

"About damn time." Askan rumbled, his voice holding just a smidge of malice. "Dropped by Hearthwood the other day, Inna was the only one there. Said you'd moved to the lake."

Lachesis "XIX" Stark
@Reyes you're still welcome to hop in!
scouting dem 2/3

As expected it did not take long for the yellow-eyed Selwyn to greet the ghost from the north. His familiar scent poured through the trees as he approached, earning a slow wag from Lachesis’ tail. It had been too long since he had last seen the grumpy Edge Lord, as it had been Askan’s mate giving the news of their pack at the borders of Hearthwood. He didn’t mind the presence of the blue-eyed leader, as Lachesis considered both wolves his close friends, but it was nice to see Askan’s ugly mug in person. He just hoped that his friend would take kindly to the news of Driftwood instead of worrying about their close proximity. The Stark had not meant to go so south but once he had arrived at the surging river he couldn’t imagine his pack living anywhere else. At least the two packs were friendly… Lachesis just hoped they would remain that way…

A soft laugh dropped from his tongue at his comrade’s words. He should have gone to the Edge first but, at the time, he had been close to the Notch. His amused expression quickly turned to one of curiosity as Askan mentioned he had gone north, to the Kingswood, only to find Inna alone. Ah, he started, his ears twitching as he regarded his obsidian friend, yes. More west, between the lake and the mountain. Driftwood Surge. He shrugged. I’ve always been partial to Turtleback. If it was up to him he would have claimed the entire lake as his own, but the Stark knew that the lake was a valuable source of water (and food) for the packs and loners in the area. Now that Driftwood’s scent littered the area he hoped it would deter strangers from trespassing, but he didn’t doubt that they would run into a few problems down the road… just hopefully not from their southern neighbours.

What brought you to Hearthwood? He asked, curious as to why the Selwyn had ventured north. Inna could have told him where they had gone, as there was no doubt in his mind that Oksana had shared the location of Driftwood with her mother, but he had not visited. It was probable that Askan was waiting for Lachesis to arrive at his borders, for it was his news to tell.

Reyes

"Yeah, why did you go to Hearthwood, anyways?" Reyes chimed in, materializing from shadows as he saunted up to the pair of bros. If he were the jealous type…

Well. Good thing he wasn't. That was Askan's shtick. And good thing it was Askan that had gone to the empty woods to find Inna instead, because the grey-eyed alpha was pretty certain he'd have just spit in her face if she decided to say anything stupid. The Selwyn was tempering, even if only just.

He tossed his head in Lachesis' direction. "You hear about my lake and decided you wanted one of your own, was that it?" he asked, voice light. It was clearly a tease, though he couldn't blame the man if the idea of lakefront property was too tempting. Fresh water was pretty swell, though he would bet the white wolf's lake didn't have any caves. He'd never seen any, when they'd lived up that way. "This cabrón invite you in for any dinner yet, or what?"

Between the lake and the mountain huh? Askan supposed that wasn't a bad location and it meant that they would be closer now, real neighbours but- Askan didn't have time to think on it too long as his mate soon showed his face, his pointed question making Askan snort as he swatted Reyes with his tail. Bloody typical. It was all in good humour though, the prospect of ditching Reyes for Lach was laughable really. No offence to the Old Man, but as Askan had said before, his ass was as flat as a leaf. Not that was all there was to their relationship but... Well Lach was a friend, Askan had no interest in shifting things up, after all was a one and done sort of guy.

"Well," Askan grumbled, trying to recall why he'd headed that way in the first place. "You went silent on us. Wanted to make sure you were still alive and all that. Don't think about it too hard, Old Man. Or rather, men."He smirked, smug as could be.

Yeah, that'll show em.

Gabe had a point though, was Lach following their trend or what? The Selwyn had never thought of himself as a trend setter, but it wasn't a bad thought. It wasn't his fault he had excellent taste.

Out came the sass and Askan whacked his mate again with his tail, a little harder this time, though no less playful. "I dunno if he deserves that...or if he even needs it. Look how fat he's gotten."

Despite his jests Askan turned, and motioned with his snout for Lach to follow. Whilst he was here, he might as well see their lake, right? And prove that size wasn't everything.

The grump’s counterpart arrived on the scene before Askan got a chance to respond. An amused smirk rolled onto the ghost’s pale features as he dipped his nose in greeting to the scarred male, his plume sweeping absently behind him. XIX hoped that the river wolves hadn’t settled too close to Edge territory, for he did not want to infringe on his bro’s territory, or hunting grounds. Borders were still borders, no matter how good of friends they were.

Ah. He had gone silent on the duo. Things had been … hectic in Hearthwood. That was the easiest way to put it. He’d been toying around with the idea of moving for months before gathering his subordinates and announcing their departure from the Kingswood. He still hadn’t notified the Fields of their move… that was next on his list, once he returned to the Surge. Well, we’re alive, he retorted quickly with a lazy half-smile, sorry to disappoint. The pack had been flourishing since they left the northern forests; a good sign for the troubled pack. Things just weren’t working out in Hearthwood anymore. It was never my pack to lead, anyway. He shrugged. The Stark had done his best to keep Maksim’s legacy alive after his death, but he couldn’t live among the ghosts any longer. Not when it was starting to effect all members of his pack. Had to make sure I got the better lake, too, he added with a sharp wink in Reyes’ direction. He’d never seen the shallows so he couldn’t make assumptions on which lake was better—even if he already knew his was.

What do you think? Lachesis asked with a laugh before turning his attention back to Askan, a single brow arched into his forehead. Me? Fat? He rolled his eyes. Love has made your insults soft, Askan. He padded forward, almost hesitantly. Although he was being invited across their borders it still felt like trespassing. But the ghost was excited, too. He’d always wondered what the territory his friends had decided to claim as their own looked like…

Reyes

“Tcht. You ain’t even seen how good my lake looks.”

Couldn’t pick a better one. Not that there was a better one – what beat a lake that you could stand on top of and loom out of. Lachesis’ wicked wink was met with a smirk, but he didn’t argue. Not yet. Didn’t need to, after all; his damn fine lake would speak for itself.

Ignoring the sharp banter between the other two, Reyes turned, leading the way back into the Edge territory. His ears pricked forward, tail swaying easily at haft mast. There was no need to exert dominance over Lachesis – he was a friend. A guest. And once upon a time, Mama Reyes had taught him a thing or two about hospitality.

Taking the ghost to one of his personal caches – on the shore of the lake – he began to dig. And then he paused, silver eyes sparkling mischievously. “Your lake come with a waterfall?”

A big one?

Lach could say that as much as he wanted, it didn't make his words anymore true. Askan was not soft, nothing about the Edge was, it was rough and sharp around the edges. This wasn't some hippy pack, where they all stood in circle a and howled at the moon, shit got done here and that was that. He could deny it as much as he wanted, pull ugly faces in Lach's direction as well, but the Old Man was kind of right, wasn't he? Whatever, he'd never give him the satisfaction.

"What? As soft as your figure?" Askan muttered, tossing another jab his friends way as his tail flicked behind him in a sharp, mischievous wag.

Having got the last word in, he was willing to let it go and instead stayed by his mate's side as they wandered through the trees, his shoulder brushing up against Reyes' with every other step. Not because he was trying to be close, but they were walking in a tight formation, it couldn't be helped really. That was totally it.

Askan nodded along, wholly in agreement with Reyes' statement. Lach's lake was bigger? So what? Since when was size everything? Not only did their lake have a waterfall, but it had character too, as there was far more to it than met the eye.

"Shame it's all frozen over otherwise you'd have to have a dip, then you'd change your mind." He grinned, his tail swishing even faster behind him as amusement settled into his tone. He shot Reyes a look from the corner of his eye, knowing that his mate would understand what he was getting at. Seeing as he'd been there when Askan had sunk into the shallows.

The walk to the centre of the territory took a little while, but soon enough the trio arrived at the shores of their little lake. Askan turned to Lachesis expectantly, studying his expression with intense Selwyn scrutiny.

"So?" Askan prompted as he gestured to the lake with a flick of his snout."Better than yours, right? You can admit it."

Lachesis "XIX" Stark

If he ever decided to retire from leading and wanted to disappear from the north this was where Lachesis would go. He had never had such good relations with a neighbouring pack before and was grateful to have the grumpy couple close by. The ghost knew that there would be rules in place about which hunting grounds belonged to who and what territory was neutral between the two packs. He had not meant to settle so close to the Shallows and did not want his friends to think he was thinking of expanding his territory into the forest that surrounded their lake. The older male was quite happy where he was situated and did not plan on leaving—not again. He had grown tired of shuffling around so much; he couldn’t handle another move. Not unless it was absolutely necessary and no amount of fighting would save the Surge.

He just hoped it would never come to that.

Your lake come with a waterfall?

He peered around the secluded territory, his chartreuse gaze drinking in the foreign sights before him. While the Stark had not stumbled upon a waterfall yet he did not doubt that the mountain forest possessed one—where else would the raging river come from? Not bad, he mumbled in amusement as he returned his attention to his dark companions. You guys did good. Better than being at the the Fields? It was nice ’n all, but Lachesis was bias to his own lake and his own river. But this place suited the couple perfectly. A hidden oasis for the oddball group.

He blinked, a light bulb turning on in his head as he turned toward Askan, the corners of his mouth tightening. Hey, you know a Lenae? He asked suddenly, ignoring their previous conversation (and Reyes’ digging at the hidden cache). She’s got the same last name as you.
