Drestig Avalon
For @Jessie <3 - set ~1 week after the injury

His dreams were filled with blurry shadows moving all around him and flashes of bright color making his head throp. Once or twice, he thought he recognized a face, but it moved along again, too quickly for him to be sure. His ears constantly buzzed with muttered voices, but no matter how hard he concentrated, he couldn’t understand them, and even if he could have, he wasn’t able to reply. The few times he surfaced from this delirious state, all he felt was agony, the pain in his leg and shoulder, drowning out everything else and soon sending him back into unconsciousness.

With no clear sense of time passing, he had no way of knowing how long it was before this changed. His sleep became calmer, dreams less unpleasant, until one day he opened his eyes and saw more than the blinding white of pain. Now, that wasn’t to say that he felt perfectly fine, in fact, he felt more like he had been trampled by an entire herd of caribou, than kicked by one, defiant bull-ox. And while he wasn’t passing out from the pain anymore, his leg still felt like someone was trying to forcefully pull it from his body. He almost wished it would just tear off already; Surely that would hurt less..!

Afraid to look down at the actual damage, the Rye king instead cast his glance around the dim space, trying to figure out where he was. The den didn’t look immediately familiar, yet the scent was somewhat, a soothing mix of herbs and grass. Looking towards the light at what had to be the entrance, he narrowed his eyes, trying and failing to catch a glimpse of the outside. Yet he did see a figure, sharply silhouetted there and parted his lips to call out, though all he managed at first was a low croak. His throat was bone-dry and it took several tries before he finally managed a hoarse: “Neko..?” Having guessed that he must be in the Fields’ infirmary.

Jessie Tainn

The moment she heard news about Drestig's injury, Jessie had been a nervous wreck. She had immediately made her way to the infirmary, fear and hope mixed in her heart. No one had said that he was dead, which was reassuring at the time, but Jessie would not feel at ease until she set her own eyes on him. Yet, when she finally did, the Rye Queen felt this heartcrushing wrench in her heart. Even unconscious he looked like he was in so much pain and the Tainn wanted nothing more than to relieve it in any way possible. Whenever she could, she sat outside of the den, though not getting in the way of Neko's role, and hoped that he would wake up - show her some sign that he was okay.

It was now a foreign feeling, trying to sleep without Drestig pressed closely to her side, and the Tainn found it hard to sleep at night, even if she was surrounded by the rest of her pack mates. Rising early, the monochrome women set out for the borders, making sure to mark them heavily before making her way towards the infirmary. The alpha set erect and waited, just as she had every other day. She had no expectations that this day would be any different than the other, but she still had hope in her heart that today her dark lover would be lucid. Jessie shut her eyes against the rising sun and soaked in the warmth, a soft sigh escaping her mouth. Silence greeted her. It was only a little while later that she heard a grunt from inside the infirmary. Emerald eyes opened and head snapped to the side to peer into the den, eyes narrowed. A shakey laugh escaped her, as he called out their healers name. The pepper-and-salt colored woman's nostrils flared as she stuck her head in, ears pinned back against her head, "No...no, it's just me." She offered him a smile.
