God did he hate this time of the year. Everyone was out getting twitterpated and he just felt aggravated. Hal was driving him crazy. When she’d said she was going to be worse the silver man had thought that she was joking. The truth was she had been right on the money. She was so moody and wanted nothing to do with him half the time, so he was left to his own devices even occasionally in sleeping arrangements. Other times she was so...normal. Not the new normal, but the old Sahalie normal. She was witty and playful. She smiled more and when she was in that mood it almost made up for all the rough treatment he was taking. He wished he could keep her like that forever.
Of course, not only was it her mood that was aggravating him but her stench as well. That perfume, so uniquely her that it drove him absolutely mad. It was intoxicating and it made him want to pull her in close, bury his head in her ruff and allow his imagination of them together run wild. But he didn’t give in, couldn’t because that would mean ruining everything wouldn’t it? She didn’t need that, didn’t need him and that made him all the more bitter.
Still, he tried to keep it bottled up. Took the brunt of her rapidly changing mood on the chin and assured himself that yes, this too shall pass. He carried a hare in his jaws, nose not having to work quite as hard over the scent of the freshly caught prey in order to follow her oh so alluring odor. He wanted to give it to her, a sort of peace offering for the day so that maybe she wouldn’t chew him up quite as much. Her dark rump came into view and his mouth watered. He convinced himself it was the hare. Kino set it down, keeping his distance as he wasn’t quite sure was her current mood was. “Hal?” he called. “I brought you something to eat.”
