Askan had never thought to ask-nor did he think they could respond- but did bears have culture ? Was it just the prospect of food that had brought them here, or had they heard through the bear grapevine that this was a nice spot to chill? He imagined it was the former, but shit, either way they were going to learn the had way that they weren't welcome here.
As the others had noticed, a few of the smaller, unseasoned bears began to make a careful retreat. Toddling away with their proverbial tails between their legs...as their real tails were so short and stumpy. There was a big one though, it was hard for Askan to tell from his distance but he/it, whatever, appeared to have a scarred snout. Almost like Reyes but not nearly as handsome. Battle hardened, a brute of a black bear, if Askan had ever seen one. One by one the others trickled away like a slow flowing stream, heading south where they would no longer be their problem.
But that old bastard, scarface didn't move an inch. His dark gaze scanned the trees and made Askan's hackles stand all the more on point, almost as though he'd heard the rumble of his uncle's voice right next to his ear.
Fine. If he didn't want to do this the easy way then they'd crank things up a notch. Confident that the other bears had left and had no intentions of coming back Askan stepped forward out of of the cover of trees. They weren't going to fight the damn thing, as tempting as it was, but it was becoming evident that they had to give the beast a nudge or two before it heard their message loud and clear.
"Hawthorne, Sachiel. Hang back."He rumbled, his gaze lingering on one pup then the next, his stare as heavy as lead. Like hell he'd let them get involved. "Reyes, Rem, let's see if we can persaude this bastard to leave huh?" His grin was wicked and his eyes shone bright as his heart raced in his chest. He hadn't felt this alive in a while. About damn time.
With each step forward the Edge Lord drew closer to the bear, who turned warily to face it's...opponents, was the best word Askan could think of. It clearly hadn't expected them to face it head on, the bear stepped back a little, if it did so again it would plunge into the depths of the Shallows. Bears were good swimmers right? Because maybe if it didn't leave they could try to drown it, wouldn't that be something out of the ordinary? Askan took another thudding step forward, Reyes and Rem either side then- with an undignified beary yelp the beast turned tail and ran, it's fat butt jiggling as it went.
Huh.
Askan gawped, his tail going limp between his legs before he snapped his jaws with a click. He hadn't seen that coming...not in the least. Though he supposed black bears were cowardly, even scarred ones.
