Family thread! Or even just a sibling thread, whichever y'all want (IDK if I'll throw Lilya in yet) @Leith @Legolas

Brush off the dirt and let my change of heart occur

Val had found it fascinating, skirting around the den, exploring every nook and cranny of her ever growing world. She knew the blobs she’d identified as her family, and every way to get to them from every part of their humble home. Yet, she’d ever really tried approaching the giant mouth that taunted her… but today would be different. The girl stood up, her chest puffing out as she confidently stumbled towards the entrance, still getting used to her legs holding her weight for such a long period of time.

The light was blinding at first, but slowly she found herself getting used to it, daring to take another step further. She grinned, giggling softly as she felt the warmth of the giant ball of death for the first time. It felt nice. She turned her head, letting out a high pitched squeal for the rather anti-social blob that lacked the taste for adventure that his siblings might have had… at least that was her perception of him.

Legolas Stark

Not once in his very short life had the boy dreamed of going beyond the confinements of their dark, cosy den. He was comfortable here; safe. Everything made sense, even if his vision was limited. He was growing to recognize the familiar shapes he encountered. His siblings—a sister and a brother. His mother, who provided them with comfort and warm milk. His father, who provided mother with care and doted on the squirming tufts of fur. There was a fifth wolf, too, that often visited the dens. She resembled their father, and would often poke her slender snout into the mouth of the den. Some days he forgot that there was a whole world beyond the den. Most days he didn’t want to see what else was out there. He was safe here—why would he want to leave?

His sister, however, did not have the same mentality.

Today she made a beeline for the entrance, her wobbly legs struggling to hold herself up. He squinted against the harsh light that pooled into the den, as he was still getting used to actually seeing things instead of maneuvering around by smell and sound. A grimace cut across his pale features as he curled tighter into himself, his chin resting along the cool, dirt floor. She called for them, beckoning them forward, but the boy remained. He wasn’t interested.

Leith Stark

Leith laid off to the side, gnawing his sharp little baby teeth on a bone. Little growls and grumbles escaped his jaws as he viciously chomped away. His siblings should be thankful, really, that the bone was lying around. The little puffball had a bad habit of chomping in their ears when another distraction wasn’t around. Perhaps that was why Da had brought the bone in the first place. Still, it wasn’t quite as fun chewing on a dead bone that didn’t play back. But he usually got a good swat from Ma when Leggy started crying, so the bone would have to do. Why’d his brother have to be such a whiny baby!

Lee paused his chewing as his sister galavanted out the opening of the den. Ah, so she’d finally gotten around to it eh? The thought had crossed the boy’s mind a time or two before, but he didn’t want to be the first one to cross that threshold. Not because he was scared, no he was brave and mighty! But because he wanted to avoid being reprimanded. It was annoying when Ma or Da scolded him, and with how much they tried to rein the trio in, well mostly Mak and Lee, he figured it was something they probably weren’t supposed to do. Let someone else do it and then he’d follow, and if they got in trouble he could easily blame it on the one who did it. Simple right?

He stumbled to his paws as Makvala called, meandering toward the entrance before pausing and looking back at his brother. He squinted, puppy blue eyes narrowing on the other. Oh no he didn’t, if they were going to get in trouble so would he. The pup pausing, leaned down, then charged at his sibling in an effort to bowl his over toward the exit. He could either go quietly, or be bullied into it. Either was his choice.

BRUSH OFF THE DIRT AND LET MY CHANGE OF HEART OCCUR

Makvala hadn’t been waiting for terribly long until she saw Leith heading towards the mouth of the den – it was hard for her to tell her brothers apart sometimes, but she figured Leggy would be the one to struggle with making it to the entrance, because of the three of them, he didn’t seem as interested in moving around and exploring. She frowned, slowly making her way back towards her brothers. Leith had also noticed the fact that their little brother didn’t seem all that interested in the outside world. She let out a harsh whine, trying to get Lee to stop plowing into Leggy’s side before she leaned down and nudged her brother softly.

She was doing her best to reassure him that it would be fine. It would be fun even! She didn’t know what kind of thing he thought was going to happen out there that would cause him to be so afraid to leave… but she wanted to fix it. She loved her ma’s side as much as the next pup, but sometimes you just had to leave it, right? He knew that, right? Her mother was napping still – probably because Mak hadn’t been able to sleep, so she’d stayed up most of the night with her (not that Makvala realized that herself), so it was up to her to nudge the boy out.

Of course his brother wanted to join the adventure and explore beyond the confinements of their dark, warm, cozy den. And, of course, the pale boy also wanted to encourage his disinterested brother (see: Legolas) into joining them. His efforts, however, were not warmly received. An annoyed whine escaped the pale youth as he attempted to shuffle away from his brother, a deep frown cutting into his short muzzle. His sister’s attempt at preventing the tackle were sort of effective, but Lee had still been successful in shoving the younger sibling a few inches closer to the mouth of the den. He flopped over onto his side, an exasperated (and defeated) sigh escaping his pudgy body. He would not go easily. Legolas was not interested in the wonders of the outside world—not when life was so good at his mother’s side! He did not understand why his siblings were so enthralled by the outside world. To Legolas it was bright and uninviting; filled with strange scents and even stranger inhabitants. Or, so, he presumed. To be fair, the boy did not know much about what was beyond their den—but he did not want to know either.

He’d managed to get his stick-in-the-mud brother to move forward a little bit when, suddenly, he was being pushed aside by his sister. He glared at her, rolling his eyes as she cooed and fawned over the other boy. Why did she always try to be the mediator? At this point she had to realize that using a bit of force was necessary every once in a while. At this point their personalities had definitely shown themselves, Makvala being keen to batter away any signs of harsh play or violence while Legolas just...laid there. Neither of them were any fun!

The boy’s puppy blue gaze looked down at his sibling as he flopped onto the ground, eyes lifting to look at his sister with a triumphant smirk. See, he had been right. No amount of coddling was going to get the scaredy mouse to move, so they’d have to use some tough love. She realized that, right?

BRUSH OFF THE DIRT AND LET MY CHANGE OF HEART OCCUR

Val was confused as to why Leggy wasn’t wanting to move any closer to the mouth leading to the outside world. It was so fascinating! However, she figured it had to do with her older brother’s insistence that he move. It seemed like the actions had made him less likely to move. She turned and growled at Leith, rolling her eyes as she pushed past both of them. He needed to leave Legolas alone! Surely their mom would scold him for his behavior – after all, she’d been trying to get some rest and all this barreling into Leggy’s side surely woke her up, right?

Either way, her sour attitude towards Leith wasn’t going to keep her from the outside world. She slowly made her way back towards the front and out of the den. It was interesting, the way the sun felt on her back once she’d finally crept out of the safety of the shadows that seemed to surround the den (caused by the position of the sun and how it shined on the den, not that she knew that) . She closed her eyes, taking a deep breath as she simply felt. Mak liked this feeling.

Legolas Stark

The dusty boy had nearly exhaled a sigh of relief when he realized that Makvala had abandoned her attempts at getting Legolas out of the den. Now it was just Leith he had to worry about… but the youngest brother figured that if he just remained glued to the ground of the den that his brother would give up just like Mak had. He waited patiently, his navy eyes surveying the dark roof of the den before following his sister’s tawny shape as she stomped toward the bright light. Curiosity got the best of him as he flopped onto his side, his stubby muzzle pointed in the direction of the determined girl as she left the safety of the den behind… For a moment he held his breath, fear swelling within his chest as he watched the bright light swallow her up… what if something gobbled her up?! He knew mom and dad were always coming and going… but they were bigger. Stronger. Heck, even smarter than the Stark triplets. He blinked as he waited for a scream, or yelp—anything that would cause him to jump up from the cold ground.

But there was nothing—only the sound of his breathing.

To his disappointment, his sister didn’t take the bait. God, now both of them were no fun! What good was having siblings when they didn’t even provide sufficient entertainment. He watched the girl go with a scowl, snorting before looking over at his brother who had firmly planted himself. Because of course he had. He saw the other’s attention had shifted toward the entrance, his brows scrunched up in concern and an idea struck him.

Turning toward the entrance he happily made his way out into the open world for the first time, no reservation in his steps. Mak had done it, so it was obviously fine. Next was to enact his plan of action. Taking floppy and choppy strides forward he tackled the tawny girl, attempting to bowl her over with enough force and hopefully surprise that she would yelp. That would get Leggy’s attention. The boy would have faked a yelp himself, but he suspected that wouldn’t get his other sibling to budge. It was no secret Lee wasn’t the favorite sibling in the litter.

BRUSH OFF THE DIRT AND LET MY CHANGE OF HEART OCCUR

With her eyes closed and her senses not yet fine-tuned to the outside world, she did not expect her brother’s form to barrel into her, causing her to yelp loudly in shock as he knocked her over. It was quickly followed by a half playful growl, her paws moving to try and smack him in the face. If she were a little more grown, or had spent some time around some of the other adults, she might have loudly proclaimed asshat or something of the like, but her ears were still innocent and not prone to hearing such language.

Next her maw reached up trying to nip him to get him to yelp back, as some kind of revenge. She was the adventurer, and he was just the follower! After all, she’d left the den first, and she’d always have that to hang over his head. She would find a way to get the high ground, it would just take some time for her to figure out – and first she’d probably have to become more confident in her own paws.
