Productivity was the name of the game today. With Lachesis's and Lilya's young pups already emerging from the den and the numbers of the pack swelling, it was now more important than ever to make sure everyone was well fed. From the oldest wolves in the pack, to the youngest and in between. Having experienced motherhood herself last year, Jynx knew that Lilya in particular would need plenty of sustenance to continue to provide milk for her children. Until they were ready to be weaned, of course. The storms had seemed to ease, deep rolls of thunder and pelting raindrops replaced by scattered clouds and filtered rays of sunshine. This was the perfect day to set out on a mission to fill the Surge's caches.
She would not be going alone though. After the
successful hunt by the falls, Mako's natural talent had not escaped her keen eye. She had pulled the young male aside to chat in private, complimenting him of the skill he had exhibited that day and on many more. Though it was she who was the most experienced hunter in the pack, at newly five years old, the woman knew she wouldn't be around forever. One day someone just as reliable as her would have to fill her place, and she definitely saw potential in the slate hued wolf. She had gathered Oksana too, testing the waters to see if the raven colored female was willing. She had not forgotten that day when she and Lilya had observed her stalking a herd of deer, and the interest she had shown. When she saw talent in a young wolf, far be it for her not to nurture it. "What do you say? Shall we take a stab at it and see if we can't bring something home?" Had been her words with a slight edge of cheekiness. There was just something about these two that she liked. Some hours later and they were quite a ways from Driftwood, but still strode through the forests of the lake with a self assured confidence. After all, they were the first to have laid claim to this region and had no reason to suspect anyone else would. But it was vast and desirable, rich in prey. Who wouldn't want to settle down? Jynx led the way, diligently
pursuing the trail of a small herd of white tailed deer. Their distinct prints in the muddy soil were easy to follow but with the lingering stench of coyotes in the air, the herd was on edge. They'd have to wait until they could make a move. Which was just as well. Three heads were better than one away from the pack, with dozens of crazed coyotes possibly lurking around every corner. The herd had led them to the northern point of the lake, and with steady patience, Jynx watched, offering tips or tidbits of advice to her pack mates. She was mindful of Oksana, aware that her leg was still compromised. With a tilt of her head, she eyed the dark female. "How are you feeling? Think you could manage it if we decide to go for one of them?" She had yet to notice the new scent in the air. They were still too far away, but a shift in the wind just might do the trick to get their attention.
