RE:A recent heat wave has left the forest drier than usual.
I'm gonna assume Jenny found one of those mystic short cuts, so she didn't have to walk all the way up then down the mountain. Don't be surprised if Lenny pops in sometime like AHHH JENNY WHY YOU DO THIS

Forward dated a few weeks after Lyanna was attacked.

Bring the noise

Jenny was being naughty, again.

After her brief stint with the danger stick-otherwise known as a snake- Jenny was supposed to be on her best behaviour. Ma didn't like it when she wandered off, she'd said as much, but being told not to do something only made Jenny want to do it even more.  She liked the Tarn well enough but being there day in day out with nothing ever changing was so so boring. She wanted to see the world and couldn't understand why the bigs weren't okay with that. She always came back home, so what was the problem?

In the early hours of the morning, Jenny began her ascent of the mountain. For any other pup it would have been difficult, no impossible to even dream of reaching the top! But Jenny was determined, powerful and made of stern stuff! If anyone could do it, it was her. Or at least that's what she thought.

As it turned out, mountain climbing was very hard work and not nearly as fun as she'd anticipated. Up on the mountains heights there was little to occupy her mind, all she could do was walk till her legs felt really heavy. Even stranger, Jenny had been walking up up up for most of the journey but now she realised that the ground was sloping down! How did that happen? Had she somehow got lost along the way?

Maybe. Or maybe this was her plan all along, who knew? Jenny certainly wasn't going to tell.

As if to give the little pup a respite, the ground flattened out as the sound of running water reached her ears. Yes! Lots of water for her to paddle in! The little Selwyn broke out into a grin as she toddled along, her tail swinging wildly behind her. Before, the veil would have been green and luscious, a haven for weary travellers. And it still was, sort of. The creek that ran through the veil was far more shallow than it had been before, as Jenny splished and splashed it barely reached her ankles. But she didn't care one bit, she was having fun and that's all that mattered in her eyes.

scouting dem 1/3

To say she'd recently had a rough couple of day was clearly an understatement. It seemed that trouble followed her everywhere she went, and her quest to prove herself to Askan and Reyes as a potential scout had been much more time challenging than she'd hoped for. After coming up somewhat empty handed where she'd scouted in the north, the girl had returned home for a day before setting back out to continue her work eastward; today she'd taken to the woodland between the mountain and Red Fern Forest.

Dragonveil Fold was altogether foreign to her, but in that way she figured it would be a promising place to look for either plants to add to her small store or to discover something huntworthy to report to her Leaders. Maybe the bearberry patches that had eluded her were waiting for her here. Everything was still so dry, but the land here was green enough. With her eyes peeled for them and her nose to the ground, Lyanna investigated for a time before the smell of fresh spring water caught her attention. Given the ruggedness of the landscape and the fact that she wouldn't likely find another source if she continued up the mountain, a quenching drink was in order.

So the tawny wolf meandered her way over, eyeing the stream absentmindedly before dipping her head to lap up a refreshing- ...What was that splashing over there? Head shooting up, she squinted to get a better look at...the child who seemed to be playing just downstream. Her head cocked in a moment of confusion. She hadn't caught wind of another wolf yet, and surely with a cub as small as the one she'd spotted nearby, there was bound to be at least a single responsible person around. Right? But, for the life of her, she didn't see anyone, anywhere. Perhaps she should at least check the situation out. The last thing she wanted to experience after her other misfortunes was for something to happen to a kid.

Lyanna casually approached the sooty pup, the friendliest of expressions gracing her soft features. How adorable! "That looks like a lot of fun - may I join you?" she called out from a safe distance, not wanting to scare the little girl who was frolicking in the ankle-deep water.

Bring the noise

With a big goofy grin, Jenny knocked stones about with her front paws, then dashed after them till she was completely soaked through. Now this was what she needed after a long day of walking. Honestly, she couldn't have been happier. Best day ever!

Jenny wasn't left to frolic alone for long. For a moment she thought her Ma had found her, that she'd get a talking to for trotting off alone, but nope! That wasn't her Ma. At first glance they looked really similar, they were both tawny and the ladies eyes were also sort of yellowy, but she didn't sound or smell like Ma. A stranger then, maybe even a new friend? Jenny could never have too many of those.

Jenny stood there in the water as she considered the stranger's question. Could she join her? Hmmmm. The little pup pursed her lips as she tipped her head to the side, the very picture of intense thought. Playing with a friend was always fun and the lady had asked nicely... But what if she scampered back to the Tarn and told her parents, told Pi? Jenny was all for getting into mischief, but she didn't want to get caught. Adults were sticklers for rules, they loved to behave and do the same things day in day out- was this lady the same?

"Maaaybe." Jenessa drawled, as a sly little smile tugged at her lips. Oh she was a sneaky one. "Our seeecret?"

And for good measure she batted her eyelashes. No one could resist her, Jenny was far too powerful.

Oh my. She was really going to have her hands full with this one, wasn't she. To her question, the girl smiled shyly and appeared to be putting a lot of thought into whatever her response was going to end up being. She even batted her little eyes at Lyanna, who immediately melted like snow in the sunlight.

"Maybeee. Our seeecret?"

Not only was she as adorable as they came, but a sneaky thing, too. Lyanna could only imagine what a challenge she must pose to her parents, who would surely lose their minds if they knew their darling daughter was braving her adventure a little too far from home. "Well," she began in an excited, hushed voice, as though she didn't want anybody hearing, "I suppose I won't tell if you won't!" She offered an encouraging wink then.

Sidling over, she glanced at the pup and then to the crystal clear waster of the stream before reaching out with a paw to splash around in it like her tiny companion had been. With a wag of her tail she slapped the surface of it again, a little harder this time, managing to splash herself right in face. Her eyes lit up in fun, and then she caught a whiff of a scent that was only familiar because she'd come across twice before - both times with her nose buried in Daesamar's fur. Ah hah. So that's where she came from. Which made the encounter somewhat more troubling, because Lyanna was sure that the Fold was far enough from the part of the mountain where his pack was located (though she didn't know the exact location) that the dark cub was quite far from home. How long had she been gone? And had anyone noticed?

What she didn't need was an encounter with any disgruntled parents or guardians. At this point, she might as well delay her scouting for a time as it was plain that she'd now be practicing her babysitting skills until someone either arrived or she could get the girl safely back to where she'd come from.

In the meantime, she was content to be in the presence of such playful company.

considering ly's injuries should i forward date this a bit?

Bring the noise

Jenny wagged her tail so fast her butt became a blur. See, this lady got her! There was no harm in a little play, was there? It was too hot to be all glum and serious, in her humble opinion there was nothing more important than splashing the day away. Paddling was quiet possibly her favourite pass time, but it was even better when she had someone to do it with her. Someone new and interesting.

"Won't tell, won't tell!" Jenny cheered as she bounced back and forth, side to side.

When her companion accidentally splashed herself in the face, Jenny laughed so hard it hurt. Her little sides heaved as she giggled and giggled. It reminded her of her Da, really. He was quite the clown and did everything he could to make her laugh. So she looked like Ma but acted like Da then?  Best of both worlds really. Jenny adored the stranger already. How could her day get any better?

When the little Selwyn finally caught her breath, Jenny shook off her coat with one big wiiiigle.

"Who're you?" It seemed like the natural question to ask.

I reckon it would be appropriate

The tiny wolf seemed pleased by her gesture, seemingly delighted when she'd managed to splash herself in the face. The fit of laughter that ensued was comical in a way only a child could be and Lyanna smiled warmly as she looked on. When it was said and done and the little furball had caught her breath, she went on to ask who she was. Finding that all the water-pawing had put a bit of a strain on her healing neck, she stepped onto the bank and reclined to her haunches, her fluffy tail wrapping around her legs.

"Well, my name is Lyanna Tainn. What's your name?"

She was prepared to be met with some folly then, as perhaps the girl would be inclined to make a game out of getting to know more about each other. It was true that she would be obliged to offer what playfulness she had in her, but in the back of her mind she was still waiting for an adult to show up from the mountainside any time.

Bring the noise

Jenny watched as the pretty lady sat down by the waterside. She couldn't help but be a little disappointed that the big hadn't played for that long, maybe she was like the other adults, maybe she had 'important' stuff to do as well. Ugh, how booooring. At least the lady gave her a name to put to her face. Lyanna. That was a bit of a mouthful, not the sort of name that Jenny could say over and over in a fit of excitement. Ly it was then.

"Hiiii Lyyyy." Hey that rhymed! "I'm Jenny!"

Or Nessie, or Jennessa when she was misbehaving, but Ly didn't need to know that, did she? Jenny was more than happy to ham it up, to pretend to be the perfect little darling of a girl. And why wouldn't she seem like that? She was adorable and nice, no one could say otherwise or Jenny would bite their ankles!

"Whatcha doing?" She understood what sitting was, obviously, but the mountain was usually pretty empty, quiet. It was very rare that the pup had a chance to meet and play with someone new. And as such, Jenny wanted to know everything.

Toddling out of the water, Jenny planted herself in front of Ly and offered her a big, endearing grin. Her tail flicked side to side as she stared up with her big yellow eyes, like little suns, or so Ma said.

"Where ya from?" Oh she had so many questions up her sleeve, just you wait and see.

Ly.

Wow, it had been a while since anyone had called her that. In the past it had been her father's favorite little nickname, rolling off his tongue like sugar when they'd played. Those sort of memories were beginning to feel like things that happened a lifetime ago to the girl who'd only just begun to make a life for herself here. A smile spread across her face to touch her eyes as she regarded her little companion contently.

"Jenny, huh? Well that's a beautiful name for a beautiful girl. Does Jenny have a last name?" If so, maybe it would help her get the kiddo home. Jenny had taken notice that she'd stepped away from her splashing to settle on the bank, proceeding to inquire as to what exactly her newfound buddy was up to. The pup ambled out of the stream and over closer, plopping down in from of Lyanna with a charming grin of her own. Nearly nose to nose, it was in that very instant that something struck her clear out of the blue. Her brows lifted thoughtfully. She knew that shade of yellow anywhere. For a moment she searched Jenny's eyes as if to be sure she wasn't imagining, and, sure enough, if that wasn't Selwyn yellow, she didn't know what was.

Askan had mentioned having many cousins. Perhaps it was crazy of her to think, but could Jenny belong to one of them, somewhere up on the mountain? Was her mind playing tricks on her?

Ahhh, it didn't matter. She was honestly as happy as could be now with Jenny around.

"As it happens, I'm from a place deeeeeeep in that forest back there," she inclined her muzzle to gesture to the woodland behind her. "Where are you from?"

Bring the noise

Wasn't it? Jenny was rather fond of her name, it sounded pretty and soft, the perfect disguise for a little devil. Not that she'd ever do anything that bad, Jenny just liked to mess around. It never even occurred to her that she could hurt someone. And why would it? She was being raised by good wolves, even her Father had mellowed out a lot through the years. He was no longer the bane of the Lowlands, who bullied and harassed folks for the sake of it. If anything, he was just one big dork, much to Jenny's amusement, of course.

Jenny's face scrunched up real hard. She knew her Da was an Archer? Which meant she was sort of an Archer too, right? Sort of. She was pretty sure she had Ma's name. Selwyn. Of course, the girl didn't know the weight that it carried. Her Ma had told her a thing or two about her family, but she didn't talk about them often. It was almost like she didn't want to. Not that the pup noticed that, she was still a little too young to be so astute.

"Mmmm, Sellwin!"

Following Ly's line of sight, she stared ahead at the trees. There were so many she couldn't even count them! Jenny then decided she wanted to go there one day, just because she could.
