She was so sick of this damned snow! Making every step twice as heavy, clinging to her fur and dragging her down, and hiding patches of ice along the creek, making her slip and stagger constantly. Her ire burned so hot, she was surprised the snow didn’t melt where it touched her. Of course, the residual ache in her shoulder didn’t help matters, complaining whenever she momentarily forgot and overstretched. They should probably have taken a few more days to let her rest, but, having already missed Chan’s departure from the Cove, she worried any more waiting around would make it impossible to catch up. Looking sideway at her companion, the fiery woman was surprised to find herself smiling, despite her stress. This time of year, she usually found herself seeking away from others, even more uncomfortable around other wolves than she normally was. But for some reason, being with Gwen didn’t bother her so much. “Should be ‘round here somewhere,” she said, gesturing at the surrounding trees. She’d never actually visited the Backwater herself, but she knew they lived on the creek, somewhere south of the orchard; Can’t be that hard to find a whole pack! She only hoped Chan was still with them and hadn’t moved on just yet. ”Speech" Thoughts |

The whole concept of a pack to Gwen was still so strange to her. She knew the basics of it, because she remembered as a young puppy, her mother explained it. Because Gwen had questioned that surely there were more wolves out there then just them?
Her mother had explained that yes, that wolves normally lived in big groups called packs, that were mostly other family members and trusted friends. Where there were various things to do within said pack, to help keep each other feed and healthy. Along with looking after the lead's pups each year. And when Gwen asked why they weren't in one, cause it sounded like so much fun! To play with other pups sounded like so much fun to the young child, her mother's eyes darkened in what Gwen knew now was a mix sadness and apprehension. The woman had once been the leader of a grand pack but once her mate died, she'd fled in utter heart break, unsure if she'd ever return to her beloved pack. Her sadness had been vast after all and seemingly unending, especially once Gwen knew the story.
Being shaken out of her thoughts by Flair speaking, the rusty woman met Flair's eyes briefly and nodded.
"You'd know better then me but I'll keep my eyes, ears and nose open." Gwen murmured back to her, eyes darting around as her ears and nose twitched towards the call of some small animal. "What's the place called again? Something to do with ...a dead empress?" Who named their pack something like that? Seemed a bit on the nose but who was she to judge, not having ever even lived in a pack?

Chan Eastfall
The children were on their way back to the Cove, and the stench of estrous was thick in the air - it was all Chan needed to tell him to get on the road. Luckily for the three of them, he was on his way out just as Flair and her friend neared close enough for him to catch wind of their presence. Curious and with a smile, he altered course to meet with them.
The woman at her side was a stranger, but he was happy nonetheless to see the both of them. His chopped tail wagged behind him as he approached with an evident bounce in his step.
"Flair! What's up!"
