Inger had forgotten what it felt like to have energy and strength that did not come solely from her own dogged determination. Fed, rested, hydrated for the first time in far too long, she nearly was a new wolf. The revitalization had given strength to her estrus as well, making her more playful and forgiving of her companion's eccentricities. She felt light, almost happy here in the graveyard of a berry patch. It would pass, and she knew that, but even Inger could concede the wisdom in taking advantage of the unexpected oasis now that she'd tasted its fruit.
Her nose snuffed along the ground, tracking the scent of hare. She was focused on it, the tickle in her stomach demanding she procure more meat, and the wind was working against her, pulling her scent away from her and toward a towering bison with dark eyes and a vicious mean streak. He regarded her with hate, and began to scuff at the muddying ground with a hefty hoof. His intent to trample her was clear, and still Inger remained oblivious.
