She had been out, going about her routines as if it were any other day. While some as of late had been worse than others, she’d been managing.
Then Colette felt it again, though. The inside of her chest seized, and it hurt far worse than it had at any point previously. Simply breathing suddenly felt like she was trying to inhale through fire. It was like she was being choked, drowned, except from the inside. Worse even than when she’d tried, with the water, before…
A thin trail of saliva fell from her mouth and the ghost felt her body quickly contorting against her will, and crumpling to the ground. Lack of air had darkness quickly encroached along the edges of her vision. Pulling her away. There was no breath in her lungs, no ability to call out for any kind of help. She doubted they could've done much anyway - and she didn't want the last thing she saw to be the horrified face of somebody she cared about.
So the ghost lie back, rested her head against the frozen ground and relaxed as much as she could, accepting fate.
She deserved worse. Far worse. This was quicker, mercifully so. And the last couple of years had been better to her than anything she ever should've had.
If only it hadn't had to be so soon. But now? Now.. she would finally be free.
