It’d been nearly three years since Jethro had first set paw in this very place,  and much had changed since. He’d come here hoping, expecting to just be left alone. But instead, he’d made a friend, found a pack, and hadn’t ever wanted to go back after that. And yet, here he was. Back at square one, just about. Retracing almost the very same steps he'd taken the first time he was here, but this time, there was no Nori to pull him out of his darkness.

He was alone, and seemingly - from his perspective at least - forgotten by those he had once cared for and who he had once believed cared about him.

The dark man didn’t quite know what to believe. There were two dueling narratives present in his mind, each of them vying for control. On one paw, he didn’t want to rush to judgment, to condemn, to hate.. when he didn’t know their side of the story. It wasn't fair, and he knew that. On the other, though..

He hadn’t been trying to hide his trail. How could they have not found the blood-soaked snow where those coyotes had ambushed him, and tracked from there? Sure, Jet hadn’t wished to lead danger toward them, but he had fully expected someone would come for him eventually, would find him, and.. not just leave him to die.

Had any of them even tried? Had they even ever really cared - or had they just been using him for what he could offer? Just like his old family, all those years ago?

A soft growl rumbled in his throat at the thought, as he sauntered on through the forest and fog.

The fact that it’d been strangers who’d pulled him back from the brink of death, despite not knowing him or owing him anything hurt immensely. And then, as more days had gone by and nobody had ever found him, Jet had found his desire to return dwindling. Were it not for his daughter, he wasn’t sure he’d have even bothered to come back here at all.

But there was a part of him that had to know. That, and he owed it to Atara to be there for her.
