@Vespertio or @Namid - regarding @Asphodel. (Others welcome if you want to deal with mopeyguts)

They had been scouting to the east in search of supplies for the winter when they encountered her. It was a brief but joyous reunion that left the young wolf feeling like he was missing a part of his soul. Their mother was fine, she was searching with Triell for his missing mate (if the fates were kind she would stay missing but that wasn’t in his control). But there were lines of worry about their mothers eyes when she looked at them. Perhaps she perceived something they themselves were incapable of fathoming yet, and she had sent Asphodel home, to ‘renew her connection’ with their gods and seek guidance from their grandmother.

At first he had gone to leave with her but his mother stood in his way. Telling him he had to return to the Lake. He had wanted to rebel. He wasn’t supposed to ever be far from her and the Bloodwood was such a very long way away… But he would not defy his mother.

Every step he felt like claws were digging into his stomach. He had never felt such a weight on his shoulders as he scaled the heights, the chaga mushrooms and hellebore safely stashed away in the den he had been sharing with his sister, and the hollow feeling in the pit of his stomach only deepened. He needed a task. He needed to keep busy until she returned and with the chill of fall just around the corner their stores were still severely lacking.

He shook out his coat and made his way towards the edge of the Lake, hoping to catch Vespertio on his rounds. He would need to inform the leader of his sisters whereabouts, and then he would have a request of his own.

I HAVE LOVED THE STARS TOO FONDLY
TO BE FEARFUL OF THE NIGHT

It wasn’t horribly often anymore that the king and queen were able to do their patrols together, for the man normally left earlier than her to begin his duties while Namid stayed to awaken the children and get them their meal and such before sending them off to allow her to do hers. But, that morning she had opted to allow one of the subordinates to watch over them until they awoke. It would do them good to have more interactions with the others, and no matter how much she wished it they wouldn’t be able to rely on her forever. Plus, she missed her mate dearly. They saw each other every morning and every night and perhaps even sometimes in passing, but the ability to spend actual time together was lost on them these days as they began to prepare for the coming winter months. She’d taken the opportunity happily, and they’d spent much of the morning playfully joking and behaving much the way they had when they’d first met.

She’d been just about to offer her husband a stop to eat when the scent of their yearling medic-in-training, Hemlock, washed over her. She paused and cocked her head to the side, but allowed a small grin to settle across her features. The duo had been gone for a little while on a trip to go and gather some more herbs for their storage, of which she was happy to allow them to do so. But, it was a curious note of hers that Asphodel’s scent was not intermingling with his as it almost always did. Her brows creased at this notion, for nearly all knew that there was not one without the other. She shot Vespertio a look before picking up her pace, heading toward the scent of the young male. She came upon him, quite the troubled and beaten down look upon his expression and her heart beat picked up. “Hemlock! What troubles you, dear. Where is your sister?” she called, all but running to meet him. She wouldn’t say it, but when she was around the two her motherly instinct had a tendency to kick in due to their age. She knew they likely wouldn’t appreciate the gesture, but she simply couldn’t help herself. She hoped dearly that nothing had happened of his twin.

omg what is typing? Crappy le crap and I apologize

The first moments of morning had started out per usual within the den. The agouti coated father laid curled around the silvered form of his wife with his skull rested comfortable over her shoulder, using the vantage point to help keep a watchful, golden eye on the trio of children that slumbered against their mother's belly until the day's duties had to be performed. Yet, this morning's schedule was tweaked in the slightest as both Vespertio and Namid were granted time to perform the morning border patrol together. A rare chance to catch up after what felt like eons since the last time they saw one another. Winter's chilling grip was fast approaching and preparations needed to be addressed.

As the pastel pink wash of early dawn began to steadily brighten into the more vibrant coloration of a fully fledged morning, the pair began to round the section of territory that laid parallel to the lake. A question was pressed neatly onto the features of Namid's muzzle and on the verge of becoming verbal with the small twitching of muscles when the scent of one of the yearling twins, Hemlock, stole her attention. Following in the silvered fae's steps, his creamy limbs propelled himself effortlessly in her wake towards the odd set yearling. Curiosity etched onto his features at the lack of his sibling whom was never seen far, if not directly attached at the hip, from the boy. As if his melancholic body posture wasn't enough to cue them that something was amiss. Alas, the same curiosity plagued his wife as her nurturing voice took to the air, speaking the very question Vesper was only seconds from asking.

Inwardly he cringed when he realised he had interrupted a rare moment of peace for the leading pair. Namid’s tone alone was enough to form a lump in his throat as he lowered his head in submission. Her question prodded the fresh wound, stinging like salt water on a fresh cut, he simply stared at the grass beneath her paws and tried to breathe. When a second pair joined them, he knew his time was up.

Raising his eyes to stare at the gap just above where his leaders shoulders joined, he grimaced. Shook his head and then cleared his throat. How could he say what he needed to say without his sisters heartbeat echoing his own? How had he not noticed before the chill in this mountain air? A deep breath was enough to centre the young man again, and finally he managed to choke out a few short words. “Mother sent her home.” but what sort of explanation was that? He didn’t need to see a questioning glance to know he had told them nothing.

“We had travelled to the east to gather what we could. There isn’t much time left, I wasn’t confident in what we had. Our mother had made her way back, I suppose we knew she would. She once led here, much like you do… although her reign was not so fortunate…” but I digress, he pulled himself up with a nervous grin. “She said Asphodel would need to return home, briefly. She had a message for her to deliver. I am sure she will make her way back as soon as she may… but it is a long, long way back to the Bloodwood.”
