The woman stumbled over her own paws, her usual smooth gait nowhere present. Her mind was preoccupied on more important things. How could this have happened? How could the fates want to make her suffer more than she already did? Yes, she was happy within the Woodlands, for she had Bane and her duty to Nina. But she did not feel peace, never did she feel true peace anymore. Sometimes it felt like she did, but those moments were always fleeting. Yes, she was still friendly and her warmth was ever present when she interacted with those within the pack, but when she was alone her pain was constant.

In the dark of night, the memories came to her - bombarding her with all different types of emotions. She let the pain run its course, and when morning came, she placed a mask upon her face. The Woodlands did not need her misery, it needed her warmth and so she gave it her all. But where was that warmth now? Not anywhere did she feel warmth. She felt cold...she felt dead. Nina had come back from her trip with horrible news.

Minka had passed away.

The scarred woman still couldn't wrap her head around it. Her mind and heart were full of grief and 'what ifs.' What if she had gone and visited? Gone and seen her and begged for her forgiveness? But no, Inali had known that her place had been with Nina and her new family. She couldn't have done anything to prevent her best friend's death. She looked up at the silver of moonlight that illuminated the dark sky and her blue gaze shut. Her body shook slightly with her silent sobs. Inali ached for what could have been, ached for the past, but most of all she ached for the woman that still held her heart and was the only one who could bring her warmth during this cold night.
