Merys Adroren
Yes, he’s not going to be able to figure it out on his own anyway. xD Poor, dumb Mer.

At first, Merys listened attentively. His jovial nature for the pup at his side was thinning, feeling like he was getting closer to solving this tiny mystery he had self-delegated to deciphering. The pup’s attempts at the foul language went unnoticed, and he just listened as Gent went on. Truly, he hadn’t expected him to know as much as he did. Did all wolves who studied plants get this in depth, or was the dark giant an oddity? Jesus. While Merys did his best to follow along, he wasn’t even sure what he was trying to learn, making it all the more confusing.

It was becoming evident that there was a lot of information on this tiny, stupid twig – more than Merys had bargained for. How was he supposed to know what to filter and what not? In fact, how did he know if he was even supposed to be trying to solve any mystery at all? Maybe they had just fallen asleep on said twig from the very beginning.. The evening had been a daze even while it was happening, much less after time had passed and trying to remember particulars. He sighed outwardly, frustrated by the uncertainty that was his self-imposed venture. He furrowed his brows as he pawed the air for the little girl some more. “Does it have any symbolism or anything, either this nigrum or @Belladonna stuff? Other than poison and death?” It was all he knew previously about nightshade, much less the different types. “For a friend, of course,” he jokingly added, knowing the paronomasia lie was not believable, but trying to keep the air light between the two on such a random topic.

Gent Lieris
His pause had been conscious. It was exceptionally rare that he was asked about what he knew regarding herbs, and typically it was a simple question calling upon a simple answer. Only @Sylva had asked him anything so broad before, the little information sponge being the only wolf who the king had rambled on about plants to before. Merys was certainly quite a different wolf, one whom Gent didn't feel as comfortable flooding with words to about something so... dorky.

The other man's frustrated exhale only reinforced this self-conscious reflection (a very rare thing for the shade king to experience), and his ears picked up to listen better to what his hunter was seeking. Maybe it would be easier if he was informed why Merys was asking this question. The other insisted on delving into the symbolism, and Gent's curiosity mounted.

For a friend, of course, he jested, and the alpha's pale gaze held onto his dial for a moment. Since his joining, there had always been something about Merys and the way he conducted himself that staked a tiny little flag in Gent's mind. He thought the subordinate to be truepenny, yet a small reservation was held that meant he would not be surprised if one day the man could not be found. Despite this contained doubt, he knew that there was nothing sinister in whatever Merys was keeping secret. Yet what was it and why was he so clearly privatizing it?

Whatever.

"Deadly nightshades stand for falsehood. Belladonna specifically causes hallucinations. Older generations, the ones that believed in witchcraft and all that bullshit, they thought you could make spells and potions of false death and eternal slumbers with them. Glad we developed brains somewhere down the line. Really, apart from all of that, it doesn't mean much. Death and illusion. Symbolism, that really just lies in the minds of the sender and the receiver, if you're looking for specifics..."

Apparently, the other man was, and while Gent couldn't have any true answers without more details with Merys, it seemed they'd both have to settle with the king merely guessing. So that's what he did, consuming quite a few minutes with the dissertation of all that he knew. Whether Merys was happy with it or not, he'd perhaps never know.

That was, really, the hunters fault though, and when they parted ways, Gent was quite content to return to his games with his daughter and think little more of it.
