Fallen Tree Cove Learning The Ropes

Patrolling was something that Kajika considered to be a very important part of living in a pack. It was how each member could help to protect the pack. The dark male wasn't sure if his young student knew about marking boundaries or checking for intruders. She would also need to know what to do in the case that she did run into one. He wouldn't want her taking them on all on her own because he wouldn't want her to get hurt in the process. It wouldn't do her nor the pack any good for her to become injured almost as soon as she arrived. It was this reason that he wanted her to at least get a good foundation of experiences and knowledge to help guide her on her path.

After their lesson on fishing Kajika had thought Moonshadow needed a little time to settle in. A few days had passed now which he thought was a good enough amount of time for her to become acquainted with her new home. He knew that she wouldn't have gotten to know it well as he now did by any means but that would take more time. It was early morning now and though there was a faint scent of rain on the air he believed they would have the morning for a patrolling lesson.

Kajika went to the communal den after getting his usual morning drink where he hoped to find Moonshadow. He wanted to get started as early as possible so he could show her the important things and also give her the chance to ask as many questions as she might have. Sitting out said the den he called quietly into it, "Moonshadow come out here please." That done he waited patiently for her to appear at the entrance.

In the days following her fishing lesson with Kajika the dark yearling was able to do a bit of exploring of her new home. Moving through the fallen trees and large boulders, she was reminded of her birth lands. She could remember large rocks that were much too big for her to climb as well as small crevasses that were perfect for a pup. Her current favorite spot was the rock ledge that hangs over the lake. It was a flat topped and perfect for napping in the sun.

Moonshadow had also be able to slowly start sleeping longer in the communal den as she became more acclimated to the others body heat. The excess heat as well as her uncontainable excitement to explore had the youngster rising before the others. Today was no different. The charcoal coated girl had woken up before her packmates and had gone to the lakes edge for more exploring. She had quickly learned the route to the shore from the den as the lake had been her first area to explore.

She trotted along the water’s edge towards her boulder overhang when a small pool with fish swimming in and out of it caught her eye. It was never too early for a quick snack in her mind. Being on her own, Moonshadow had learned to take a meal whenever the opportunity presented itself. She stood at the edge and used her shadow to her advantage just as Kajika had shown her. Her first catch came easily as the fish didn’t suspect a thing. With a quick snap the girl pulled a fish out of the water with ease. Trotting away from the water so that the fish couldn’t flop its way back in, she set it down. Looking around she sees Kajika arriving for his morning drink a few lengths away. He doesn’t see his young student as he drinks and when he is finished he turns back for the den.

Moonshadow looks at her catch and decides to get him one as well. Once the second fish is caught the girl picks both up by the tail and trots off to the den. She walks within earshot just as Kajika is calling her to come out of the den. Setting the fish down she speaks softly as to not wake the others “Good morning Kajika. I got you a fish if you’re hungry”.

There was much to cover that morning and Kajika didn’t want to let the sun get to high in the sky before he was able to start his lesson with Moonshadow. It was one of the most important lessons that she needed to learn. So once he had fulfilled the part of his morning routine that he had always kept whether he was part of a pack or not he headed back to the den to find her. Kajika had been very proud of the work that she had been putting in since she became a part of the pack which gave him high hopes for her future among them. He was very glad that him bringing her to Fallen Tree Cove had worked out so well for her.

After calling for her to come out of the den he waited watching the entrance for her to emerge. When he heard her voice behind him he was slightly surprised to find her already awake with to fish on the ground in front of her. “Awake bright and early, that’s a good start,” he commented as he looked the fish over. “Thank you for the fish. I see the technique your using worked well for you.” He didn’t think that having a little breakfast before the lesson would hurt. “Should we take these over here away from the den? I can tell you the lesson that I have planned if you’re up for it while we eat.”

Kajika picked up one of fish that Moonshadow had brought and lead the way a few feet from the den so that they cold talk more freely without interrupting the others that might still be inside the den.

OOC! I am soooo sorry I took so long. Life had gotten really hectic DX

Her teacher turned with slight surprise on his face that she was already up. Her tail wagged behind her as he praised her for it. “You’re welcome and it is” she said with a smile. Kajika’s suggestion to move the fish away from the den prompted the yearling to pick the fish up by their tails once more and follow him to a new spot with pep in her step so they can eat and so that he could tell her about her next lesson.

Moonshadow had always been eager to learn since being a young pup. She was the first in her litter to leave the den and explore the world around her and absolutely love it. After setting the fish down the yearling sat next to her catch and asked “So what’s today’s lesson?” She patiently waited to eat until her teacher began or until he gave her permission. Excitement filled the youngin’ as thoughts of what the lesson could be filled her mind.

No worries, I completely understand

Since his days on his own Kajika had always enjoyed fish for breakfast but what had made this particular breakfast better was that his student had caught it. He was also proud of the fact that she seemed to understand the importance of an early start. At his suggestion of doing their dining away from the den Moonshadow took both of the fish to where Kajika led. He had chosen a place not too far from the den but under the shade of a tree so they could eat in the coolness of the shade. With the plans that he had for the day he didn’t want them to become too hot before they had even started.

Once they were settled in Kajika took a few bites of his fish before getting into the lesson that he would be having with Moonshadw that day. Her eagerness showed through once more as she asked him what exactly it was they would be doing that day. “I thought we could go over patrolling the borders today. It’s an important part of living in a pack not to mention depending on the role you might seek within the pack if you wish to do so it could be an important part of that role,” he explained. Kajika remembered when he had gone patrolling with Des and the things that she had shown him about being a scout. The dark male thought that role might one day suit Moonshadow but for now he wanted her to learn the basics of being a good pack member.

OOC! So sorry again. My fiance and I had to move and everything is finally settled. So now ill be able to be on here more :)

Excitement threatened to boil over in the ebony yearling as she patiently waited for her teacher to answer her question. Slightly fidgeting as she waited young Moonshadow had completely forgotten about the meal that laid at her feet. "I thought we could go over patrolling the borders today". Patrolling?! How exciting! She thought exjuberantly. However there was just one tiney tiny problem for this yearling. She had no idea what patrolling meant. This realization quickly followed her excited thoughts.

"Uhhh Kajika - whats patrolling mean?" She asked quietly, looking away from him momentarily. Moonshadow had always been bright and a quick learner but for some reason she couldnt figure this one out. Maybe it was because she was thinking on an empty stomach? She realized her meal once more and began to eat. Enjoying the freshness and plumpness of her catch. Looking up between bites silver eyes made their way to her look alike teacher eagerly awaiting to be taught.

No worries, I understand.

With the lesson Kajika had in mind for Moonshadow that day the fresh fish would keep them satisfied till lunch. Then they could Continue the lesson until lunch at which time they could catch something and have a lesson in hunting or get something from the cache. The dark male had no doubt his student would would do well with the lesson, she was an eager and fast learner. As he ate his breakfast he also explained to the young girl what they would be doing for the lesson. That way she could ask any questions she might have but he was sure that some questions might pop up later. Giving her as many opportunities to ask the questions she had would ensure she learned as much as she could.

He rose a brow when she asked him what patrolling was, he supposed no one have ever told her about it. No matter, that was the whole point of the lesson, learning about it. “Patrolling is when you make the rounds of your packs lands to ensure there are no intruders. During which you also refresh any markers that might need it at that time. Keeping the markers as strong as possible will help to deter intruders,” he explained though he didn't go into too much detail. Kajika wanted to make sure Moonshadow would understand the bigger picture, they could focus on the smaller ones during the lesson. He took a bite of his fish while he waited for her to process what he'd said.

 while gobbling up her breakfast the ebony youngster listened intently to the answer of the question. "Patrolling is when you make the rounds of your pack lands to ensure there are no Intruders. During which you also refresh any markers that might need it at that time. Keeping the markers as strong as possible will help deter Intruders." So that's where the adults went early in the morning. She thought she remembered wondering why the adults from her birth path and leave early in the morning and come back with a stronger pack scent. A smile came across her black maw showing her pearly white fangs just a tad as fond memories of her family danced through her mind. She hoped that eventually Fallen  Tree Cove would become her new family.

The thought of keeping intruders out excited the girl. She wasnt about to let anyone potentially harm her new pack. Moonshadow hasnt ever really had the chance to be loyal to anyone however this doesnt stop her from wanting to prove that she is. She stuck around her birth territory after the fire due to loyalty but this had gone unnoticed. She believed that once a wolf has earned her trust they would keep it until they gave her a reason not to.

With her fish finished Moon stood giving her legs a good stretch with a yawn making its escape from her. The relaxed state of her body shortly gave way to another wave of excitement. The girl was practically jumping in place with her tail going a million miles an hour. She was so eager to learn she could hardly wait any longer to get started. Silver eyes looked at @Kaijka with a burning hunger that only knowledge could tame. She wanted to start her lesson right then.

It was important that Moonshadow understood what they would be doing that morning so that she could prepare herself. He thought if she had all of the information she needed before they started she would gain more for the experience. Still he didn't think that just telling her about it was enough, she needed to go through the motions herself. By doing that it would stick in her mind easier and she would be able to go out in her own if she wanted. Kajika didn't think every question the girl might have would come up but he planned to make it clear she could come to him with questions whenever she had them.

The breakfast fish Moonshadow had brought had been good, a perfect start to the morning. However he had taken his last few bites after his explanation. As glad as he was to be giving his student a lesson there was still a small part of him that wanted to stay a little longer before getting started. However, with the excitement that his pupil was showing he knew they should probably get started on the lesson. Kajika rise to his full height and like the girl in front of him gave his body a stretch. “I don't think I have to ask if you're ready,” he stated with a chuckle.

He moved to the edge of the clearing that would lead to where he usually started his morning patrol. He stopped to wait for Moonshadow, “We’ll start in this direction and go from there,” he explained. That said and sure she was with him he started at a steady pace toward the border. “We will be going to the border for this lesson and I want you to ask any questions you might have when they come up.” He made that clear because he didn't want anything to be forgotten and he felt she couldn't learn everything if she didn't ask questions.
