Larkspur Ritter
The footholds that he'd once had on the earth felt loose and slippery. It had only been last week that he'd taught Sahalie a bit on fighting, that he'd seen Marina experience snow for the first time, that he'd felt what little self he had scrounged up together come whole again. He remembered feeling at home and happy, but now it just seemed so far away. Although it was of no fault of Parsnip's, he still found himself blaming the girl. He had always been good at blaming someone else for things he had little control over and this would be no different.

Cold rain fell from the sky as Larkspur went to where he'd last seen his brother. It wasn't his brother, of course, which only unsettled him more. Either there was a wolf that was whitish-gray with yellow eyes prowling the Ubra Copse, or... Well, he didn't really think it was necessary to entertain the or. It made his throat too tight, it made him feel physically ill, and his heart drop. He pushed that or to the side, just as he had all this time, and continued on the quest.

He didn't think ghosts or demons could be killed, if only because he didn't believe they existed. But if he stumbled upon, say, a light colored wolf with yellow eyes?

Dead.

Pulled apart at the seams

When it seemed like the rain had let up, it started again. But, while the little drizzle had continually kept Murphy's nose chilled and her breath in wisps, it wasn't entirely unwelcome. For the time being, she took it as a sign to simply stay put. It had been nearly a month now since she had set foot within the eastern parts of Relic Lore, and little did the young Connor know that she was much closer to Quentin's previous roots than she believed.

By now she had established a routine. She kept away from where she knew the trees of the Dark Woods, drank from the waters that fed into the territory's main water sources (namely Coldwater Creek and Heiress Loch) and stayed hidden within the reach of the trees whose boughs blocked out the sunlight, believing for the time being that shadow was one of her greatest allies. This morning she had awoken to the chill in the air, shivering until she could get herself on all fours. Frankly, she had been tired from the hare hunt she had attempted the day before, and collapsing against a fallen log had given her no shelter from the storm that had sprawled across the sky while she dreamt.

A good shake of her coat and the girl was off, letting her whims carry her to wherever they wished. Since her encounter with the little dark cub, her curiosity with the neighboring wolf pack had taken root and there was currently nothing to keep her from seeking them out. After all, perhaps they had known where Quentin or Beirne had gone? Perhaps they had found refuge within their ranks? Murphy had to know; she had to ask the questions and find out for herself.

It was only when the yearling had realized that she was solely surrounded by oak trees did she slowed down in pace. Her ears had come forward and her hackles had come up out of wariness and caution. She peeled her green-eyed gaze open, a growing awareness snaking across her senses that she would not be alone for long if she kept going... most especially if she opened her big, loud mouth, "Heh-lo?" She waited for something to startle from the sound of her voice but the rain merely continued its rhythmic pitter-patter throughout the forest around her. "Hallo?" If anyone had known her brothers, there would have been no doubt that this was their sister calling...

Heh-lo? Larkspur shot up, ears pinned forward. He stood still, face scrunched up in a snarl as he tried to sniff out the source. His heart uncomfortably pounded against his heart, quietly praying whoever it was would make another noise. Hallo? they called again. Now with a more clear path, Larkspur pushed through the underbrush. It didn't take him long to find the source, who was neither yellow eyed or white. He visibly deflated, his fur settling and head dropping a bit. Already he was starting to feel embarrassed, knowing well that he shouldn't even have bothered to come back to the copse.

For a few moments Larkin ignored the girl and looked around, half hoping and half dreading that yellow eyes would be watching him from the corners of his eyes. But only the corners, he remembered. This was stupid and childish. He knew that, but still Lark felt the urge to satisfy some of the wild notions that he had. They had yet to do him any good, bringing him more of that gut-sinking feeling than some sort of satisfaction. Frustration bubbled within him. Though the girl had done no wrong, she had existed in his presence. This was enough of an excuse for Lark to be... well, himself.

"Shouting out like an idiot isn't very wise, you know," he finally was paying attention to the girl. "You might attract the wrong wolf."
