Wraith Kael
Fall Festival Random Event - Stalking prey through tall grass, you hear a strange gobbling sound and see a large, plump flightless bird. [I will preface this by saying turkeys actually can fly. c:] All welcome!

His breaks from pup-rearing were becoming longer and longer. With Kara and Odin now growing more independent, Wraith was more than happy to let the pair of them discover the world around them without his constant presence to influence how they could perceive things. He'd taught them the basics, and hoped their sense of morality was not in line with their uncle's. Nature versus nurture was an odd concept to the male, but he had an inkling that nurture in this case would win out.

So it was with his now ample free time that Wraith had taken to the lowlands for some much needed hunting. It wasn't that the rest of the pack hadn't been fruitful in their own hunts recently. It was more that the northerner needed to satisfy the want to roam and hunting was always the perfect excuse. Not for the first time, Wraith found himself at the base of the northern mountains. Craw's family, if he recalled correctly, hailed from there. Wraith's own birth pack was farther still.

His ghosts had quieted since confiding with his friend. The spider-faced male had taken well to the news of his failures and offered comfort in the most unexpected, but natural, way. Now, as he stared up at the towering peaks above, he felt their presence return. They remained quiet in the background, watching him, though he didn't feel their judgement in this moment. Wasn't that a nice reprieve.

Head in the game, he reminded himself, and went back to tracking the scent of elk that had pulled him this close to the mountains anyway. While he didn't picture himself being successful on his own, he hoped to come across a calf dropped before it was ready. Instead, Wraith was greeted with an entirely different kind of surprise.

Movement ahead in the tall shaded grasses drew his attention as did an intense, shuttering sound. His cocked his head and stalked closer when a loud gobble had him flinching. What the hell is that?? Peering through the grasses, he spotted the heavily feathered brown bird. It looked like it had a fleshy wound on its face that dangled down, but as he watched, it retracted in on itself and stood almost like a stiff single tine of an antler on top of its head before loosening and falling back down over its beak. It looked good enough to eat for him.

Using the tall grasses to his advantage, Wraith pounced upon the turkey's back in a rather fox-like motion, sending another smaller turkey he hadn't seen flying a short distance away, leaving feathers in its panicked wake. Thankfully, his landing upon the bird's back stunned it well enough for him to make multiple bites for several times he was left sputtering feathers. Its legs had crumpled beneath its own and Wraith's added weight so the creature was more or less dead to rights. Now if only he could grab something substantial and kill it. Damned feathers!

(WIP - my dog is destroying her bed Dx)

The vegetation grew more and more sparse the further north Darkmoon moved, letting the wind easily cut across the flat expanse, biting through his still growing coat.
