Falling back against the ground under the weight of her pied mate, Corinna leaned forward and licked his cheek gently. Letting her head arch backward, the she-wolf exposed her neck to Indru. Feeling his playful nips and grooming, she growled softly. Closing her eyes to the world, she took refuge in the darkness. Taking comfort from his body pressed against hers, she relaxed, the tension escaping her body. He spoke to her, his voice honest and truthful. And she let herself believe him. She was too tired to keep playing the what-if game in her mind. It was too tiring to keep up the tension between them, not when they were responsible for other lives beyond their own. It wasn't good for their cubs and it certainly wasn't good for the pack to see them bicker and quarrel. It undermined the structure of Swift River, and with the threat of Ruiko's leaving them hanging over their hands, the last thing they needed was a sense of instability between the pack's leaders.
Chuckling, Corinna batted at his nose playfully with a fore paw. "You would focus on your looks. That's all you've got going for you, anyways," she teased him, the joke evident in her voice. Scooting closer, she rested her head near his paws. Closing her eyes again, she sighed, clearly content. "Can we just stay here?" Not that she wouldn't want to return to her cubs, but she wanted to savor this moment. It was so rare that they had time just the two of them that she wanted to make the moment last for as long as possible. "At least a little while."
