Larkspur Ritter
The least social of the small group of Oak Tree Bend deserters, Lark was up to what he was usually up to: avoiding other wolves. It had taken him a good chunk of time to even begin to relax in the Bend. Here he had a new set of rules to follow, new faces to learn. The white wolf didn't stray far from the Monadnock, and having explored around the small body of water at the base. Looking up at the Monadnock, he decided against making a climb up it. Ahead of him, goats hopped around, seemingly mocking him for his lack of skill on the rocky slopes. He gave himself a quiet reminder to make a good meal of one of them in the future.

He found the territory of his new pack boring, and more than ever, Larkspur missed his shaded, twisted tree. He needed to seek Sahalie out soon, and see what exactly was on the girl's mind. Certainly she didn't mean to stay within this pack forever, and he somehow doubted she even thought to attempt to lead the wolves here. This was all temporary and as much as he didn't like it, he'd have to be patient. Months ago, he had been anxious to come up north, and even had intended to continue out of Relic Lore. Having grown accustomed to the dark mists of the Spectral Woods, he was becoming anxious to head back south (as he assumed that's where Sahalie was wanting to go).

He left his pack's territory behind, feeling that refreshing sense of freedom that he got from being away from a place he disliked. Lark leaned down to sniff at the snow, hoping to find the trail of a rabbit.

Eskil Whitebark
@Larkspur

Thin, scraggly and worn down, Eskil felt like shit and looked it too. Winter was not a good time for trekking across hell's half acre, and an even worse time to be searching for someone. He had already slipped on loose snow trying to get out of a steep ravine nearly a week ago, in the process pulling some muscle or tendon in his leg further than it liked. The limb nagged painfully at him as he walked, and he tried to keep his weight off of it the best he could. Unfortunately he didn't have the privilege of waiting for it to heal itself. His sister's tracks had long since gone stale, buried deep beneath a season's worth of snow. As far as he could tell, she seemed to have beaten a rather hasty path to the south. He wasn't sure if he was glad she was alive, or annoyed that she had the audacity to vanish off the face of the earth, only to return too late and leave again without the courtesy of finding him.

Eskil sighed, shaking his pale coat and trying not to get into the self defeating circle of blame for the hundredth time, which was all too tempting when he was alone with nothing but his thoughts for company for days on end. She was all he had left, and that was that. At the least she owed him some answers.

Dark spruce eyes skimmed over the white horizon, catching a moving smudge. He picked up his unsteady pace, trying not to look too battered before the stranger. Part of him was happy to see another soul after weeks of solitude, but he couldn't be too trusting of any rogue.

"Hello!" He called out as his tail swished behind him, ears perked and alert as he approached.

He should have gone after one of the goats. Which would have meant possibly slipping and breaking his neck, but at least he wouldn't be too hungry. So Lark trudged on, shoveling snow out of his way with his nose and pawing at things that he thought could be tracks, but ended up not being tracks. At the least it was something to keep himself occupied, and Larkspur could spend countless hours doing something as tedious as looking around for rabbit tracks.

Larkspur wouldn't have to do this for very long, if only because company seemed to have a way for finding him. At first he had not noticed the approaching man, but when he was greeted with a loud Hello! he was forced to look up. If anything, Lark was unimpressed, and considerably less happy than the other to see another wolf. His fur bristled, one yellowy fang revealed to warn the stranger not to get any closer.

The man didn't smell familiar (but familiar at this point would be Oak Tree Bend smell or Whitestone Monadnock smell), so he could only assume he was alone. "You look like shit," stated Mr. Obvious. He stood up a bit straighter. "What do you want?"

Eskil Whitebark
@Larkspur

The stranger seemed to be thoroughly wrapped up in investigating the ground, and though Eskil hadn't meant to, it seemed he caught the white wolf off guard. Irritation was written clear across the other male's face. The Whitebark male stopped in his tracks seeing the warning loud and clear.

His damp black nose twitched, pulling in the bristling wolf's scent. He smelled of frost and stone, just like the rest of the tundra, accented by the musk of other wolves on his coat. He took it to mean he was in a pack, or at least had traveling companions. As unwelcoming as the white wolf was, Eskil could at least take it as a sign he was closer to something resembling civilization. And closer to someone who might have seen where his sister had gone, if not the woman herself.

Eskil received no 'hello', no 'how are you'. Just a blunt, if not accurate observation. "Thanks, I try." Eskil rumbled in return.

"Nothing, really. Just saying hello, is all. You're the first wolf I've seen in a long while." He said in regards to the demands for what it was he wanted. "Guess common courtesy isn't so common around these parts, then." He added with an unconcerned shrug.

It probably would have been better that the stranger found someone else to randomly greet, because Larkspur often thought it was pretty pointless to say hello just for the sake of hello. He tried to think of where the man would have come from, but was mostly unsure of the packs in and around Relic Lore. He knew Oak Tree Bend, which was very far south, and White Rye Fields, which was directly south. A little bit south east was Hearthwood River, but beyond that he wasn't sure. He could have been from the north, or even the west, both regions Larkspur had not bothered to explore yet. And he probably wouldn't ever get to it. "You'll probably have to head more south for that," he returned, unfazed by the snark that the man was offering.

Lark's first thought was to leave the wolf behind and continue on his search for something to eat. There would be little he could catch on his own, and although the idea of hunting alone seemed better than the opposite, he was wanting something more satisfying than a rabbit. The stranger didn't look well-off, but Lark highly doubted that anyone would pass up the opportunity for a good meal. Two wolves were better than one, after all.

"Interested in finding something to eat?"

Eskil Whitebark
The white wolf was just as icy as the snowy landscape around him, responding to Eskil's quip with his own sarcastic comment. That was fine, he didn't need the red carpet rolled out for him, and if the man didn't want to be bothered then Eskil would happily continue on his way. There were doubtlessly other wolves out there, the fate of his journey didn't rest on the orange-eyed stranger. Hell, maybe there'd be a kernel of truth to it, and there might be slightly more accommodating wolves the further he went.

Eskil barked a laugh, "Great, that just happens to be the way I'm headed." He lifted his good paw, poised to start off on the path again until he was caught by the other wolf's offer. He'd gotten the impression that the male simply wanted to be left alone.

So it surprised Eskil that the wolf asked if he wanted to find something to eat. That seemed pretty courteous to him, perhaps the wolf did have some manners after all. "Sure, why not." He nodded. Meals were few and far between, as his lean sides could attest to. He couldn't pass up the opportunity. "I could do with some food. What do ya have in mind? Lemmings? Shoeshoes?" He asked.
