Kajika Tallis
@Namid, takes place directly after this thread.

Talking with Namid had helped a lot more than he expected. In the process of their conversation he had figured out what he needed to do so that he could get better. His focus for the time being would have to be on Des and coping with her disappearance before he could worry about his feelings for Moonshadow. She had Tagg now so he felt she would have him to keep her too busy to worry about him. While it bothered him some he knew that was the way of things and as long as she was happy...Well that was all that mattered. He could live with the decision he'd made and now it was time to forget it all for a time.

Namid had offered a hunt and he wouldn't turn her down. With his new outlook on his situation he felt more like going hunting then be had for some time now. His tail swished behind him at the prospect of a hunt with his alpha, “Would you like to take the lead?” He asked her in case she wanted to. If not he was perfectly fine doing so but wanted to give her the chance. “Perhaps you can teach me a thing or two?” He mildly jested with a raised brow. He was also serious too, she might know a technique or something he didn't already know and he was always willing to learn from others to better himself.

I have loved the stars too fondly

As they went it was clear that Kajika was in a much better mood than he had been before. Her heart swelled at this fact, glad that she’d been able to be of at least a little help to the male. If Namid were a human, it was likely that she would be 1 of 2 things; a teacher or a psychologist. If she could find a way to combine both, she’d likely be the happiest woman on earth. Helping others was her greatest joy in life, which is likely why she was able to take to leading so well. What better way to help others than by leading them down the correct paths?

When he asked if she’d like to lead she didn’t mind much. It didn’t really matter to her, if she were being honest. As long as they were able to catch something then that was a win in her book. “I think partners would work better,” that way they could work together instead of relying on one of them to make the decisions. At the suggestion of her teaching him something she chuckled, not entirely sure what there was that she could teach a fully grown wolf. But, she could try. ” I suppose there is a technique we could use? I learned it when I was young and lived on an open plane. We would use it to hunt prairie dogs or moles, but I have found that it works with rabbits as well?” she suggested.

Kajika Tallis

Having been so down for what seemed like such a long time Kajika wanted to enjoy this time he had of feeling even a little better. It was a reminder that things weren't bad all of the time and that they would get better in the end. Even though there was still so much he had left to work through a hunt would take his mind off things for a little while ago least. Perhaps having that small amount of time away from it all could help in giving him a different perspective along with Namid's advice. He planned to take her advice and tell Moonshadow but this wasn't the day, hunting with his alpha was what he thought he needed.

He had offered for her to take the lead if she wanted but it seemed that she had something else in mind as she offered they go as partners. A rare smile did cross his maw at that suggestion, “I think that's a better idea,” he agreed. While he had been on his own before joining the cove and had his own techniques for catching each prey he had suggested that Namid could teach him something. They each had their own life experiences that had taught them different things. He nodded as she suggested a technique she'd used when she was going on prairie dogs. “I would love for you to show me a new technique for rabbits,” he told her smiling, “Shall we get started then?” He asked before turning to head into the forest.

I have loved the stars too fondly

Kajika seemed all for the idea and she gave a pleased smile. The way her technique worked usually required a partnership anyways. Giving a nod to him she began to move along, siding next to the man. Her nose twitched, trying to scent through the air for any sign of a rabbit. It was a while before she was finally able to catch wind of a seemingly fresh trail, silver tipped auds perking as she moved to follow it happily. Hunting took patience, something the lake queen had in abundance luckily. Children tended to do that to a woman she supposed.

Once they were close to the burrow she stopped, lowering her voice to a whisper. “Usually a problem with rabbits is when you go to fish them out they have a habit of escaping. With this technique, one wolf stands on top of the burrow while another stands a little ways in front of it. Then, the one standing on top will rise up and slam down on top. Sometimes it a few tries, but eventually the rabbits will run out from fear. That’s when either the wolf on top tries to catch it or it runs right into the mouth of the one waiting. It is especially effective in the spring when there are multiple rabbits to a burrow. If you do this with a few other wolves it proves quite effective at the time,” she explained, head turning to look at him as she spoke. Her attention turned back to the suspected active burrow, posture attentive. “So, would you like to try it?”

Hunting post 1/3

They would be hunting rabbits together as partners, Kajika was looking forward to it and the technique she had offered to show him. They took off through the forest in search of their prey side by side.just when it looked like they might not find what they were looking for the scent came to him as he was sure it has to her as well. He moved with her to follow the trail that would lead them to their quarry and hopefully some prizes to add to the cache. Concentrating on the hunt and what needed to be done was already working to take his mind off things. He didn't want any of those thoughts to get in the way of their hunt.

When they had come into a good distance from the burrow Namid stopped as did Kajika, he listened as she explained the Technique to him. As it turned out it was one he'd never been shown not had he thought of it on his own. It sounded easy enough and a way that multiple rabbits could he caught by each of them. His gaze turned toward the burrow in order to visualize what Namid was describing to him before going back to meet her gaze once more before she too looked to the burrow. Her question was met with a smile, “Of course, I most certainly would,” he replied enthusiastically matching her tone. Which was something he hadn't really felt in awhile and it felt rather good. “Shall we get into position?”

Kajika seemed more than happy to listen and learn and she was appreciative for it. It was nice to see the man as close to his normal self as he was. He was eager to get started and she gave a nod, turning toward the small hole that was the rabbit’s burrow. Luckily rabbits did not tunnel, unlike moles or prairie dogs. It was much easier to deal with rabbits with two wolves doing this. Once you got to the last two animals you’d need multiple wolves scouting their different openings which proved to be a hassle all too often.

Poising herself on top of the burrow she lowered her head to give it one last good sniff to confirm that there was a wriggling animal inside. Chances were there would just be the one as it wasn’t spring quite just yet. Perfect for a first time learner. Her mismatched gaze traveled up to their dark second, waiting for him to position himself. If she felt he was too close she’d motion for him to back up or if he’d gone too much she’d motion him backward. It was all a matter of feeling for the right setting, what felt most comfortable because relaxation was key. She paused as he positioned, waiting for him to give the queue that he was prepared.

Hunting post 2/3

In some ways Kajika liked being the student for once even though he did enjoy his role as teacher, helping others to better their skills. He never imagined when he left his birth pack that he would be where he was in his accomplishments. If he felt his father was in his right mind he felt he would be proud of what his son had done with his life. Listening to Namid and doing as she instructed allowed him to get lost in the lesson and task they were performing. It gave him the chance to get away from his thoughts for just a little while allowing him to feel more like himself.

When it was time for them to get into position to catch the rabbits Namid took the place over the den which left Kajika out in front. He prepared himself for what his job in this hunt was as he moved to a place in front of the burrow. Once he was a few paces, what he felt was a good distance, from the burrow he turned and face Namid. He took a deep breath before nodding to her that he was ready to catch whatever was going to come out of the den when she did her part. Now that he was seeing it all in action he felt it pretty simple, the hardest part being that of catching the rabbits as they came running out thinking they were safe.

She watched him give the nod, eyes attentive and ready for action. A smirk traveled onto her lips and her mismatched gaze turned down, crinkling in focus. Her thoughts temporarily traveled back to when she was on the reservation with her father as he was teacher and her brothers this technique. She and Veho had been listening intently, but Ooljee had never been much for hunting and much prefered a spar. This, to him, had been boring. She wondered if he would have paid more attention if he’d known that only a few month later they’d be chased out of their home and split up. She wondered how different they would have all done things if they’d known. But, one could not dwell on the past.

Her body rose up and crashed down as if she were going to break the ice that had formed over their water source. She waited a moment before slamming down again, her muscles jarring but she wasn’t worried about getting hurt. Her shoulders might be a little sore the next day but it would be worth it if they were able to get the animal within. Rising up once more she came down, breaking through the top of the earth a bit and a startled squeal came from inside. Suddenly a flash of white squeezed out and made a panicked dash for escape. Now, it was all up the Kajika.

Hunting post 3/3

He'd taken his place out in front of the rabbit burrow so that when they came out he could be ready and easily take it down.  It was a method that he would need another wolf to help him but he was sure he could find someone.  That was I'd Namid wasn't available, he felt the liked getting out and doing things like this.  His nod what her signal that he was ready to pounce on anything that came from the burrow she now stood atop.  He was determined that they wouldn't get away and his positive thinking usually worked. It was funny how he could think positively for this but he couldn't in other aspects of his life.

Finally it seemed they were both in position as Namid started her assault on the burrow.   He watched as her body rose up and then fell on top of the burrow with such force. Kajika wanted to wince as he couldn't imagine it and once he saw what it was the wolf over the den did he returned his attention to the burrow in case what was inside came out.  They knew there was at least on rabbit in there which was signified when they heard the single squeal of the animal within when Namid crashed down once more on the burrow putting a hole in the top of it.

Kajika caught the flash of white appearing from the den. Since he was already preparation he was ready to catch the rabbit as it came bolting toward him. He was off his feet in a flash turning and then his jaws clamped down on the rabbits back.  He had caught it killed it  and brought it back to Namid.
