Kyrios Aegina Stark
Finally got this up for @Lilya <3

They were supposed to have moved on. Nobody had said that directly of course, but Ky could read between the lines. The deserters were gone, never to be missed or mentioned again. It wasn't that easy for the young boy though. He couldn't stop thinking of @Bennet, wondering what adventures she was getting up to, worrying about her safety. Even at night he dreamed of her, calling to him from far away, out of his reach; Sometimes beyond a vast ocean, others atop a tall, steep mountain. Always he would try to answer, try to reach her in time – he wasn't sure what would happen if he didn't, but it was something bad – around him, strange creatures would attempt the same, scaly, worm-like beasts some with wings, others legs, sometimes both or neither, and all of them reaching for the young dragon in the distance, compelled to heed her call. He never did. He always woke up, feeling hopeless and angry, and tired like he hadn't slept at all.

He'd spend his waking hours wandering the woods, trailing the out runners of the river as far is he dared go to still be back home by nightfall. The only one who could truly draw him out of his trance was @Atropos, for her he would do anything, even pretend he was still living, that half of him wasn't impossibly far away. The others? He tried, he really did, especially his father, he didn't want to seem like he was still angry, still shutting him out, that wasn't it. He was just; Broken… Watching the trailing streams of the water was the only thing that could blow a touch of life back in his lungs, knowing that the river was travelling to all sorts of places, even if he couldn't. So he did, walking their lengths or, as now, sitting quietly and observing their currents, awake but dreaming.

Lilya might not have said it, or outright showed it, but she was worried about both of the children who still remained in the River. She still held to the thought that Karina had been cruel to leave them, whisking Bennet away and leaving the two she’d been raising alongside her own, as her own behind to worry about her and their adoptive sister. She kept her distance, because she did not know the puppies that well apart from occasionally dropping in on them and Karina to bring them all prey or when she helped Karina watch them during the snake-in-the-den incident… but she still watched over them carefully.

She supposed she’d become more protective of children… she knew the horrors of the world, what could happen to them, and it scared the living hell out of her. She didn’t want Atropos or Kyrios to have to witness what she had at their age – their sibling being slaughtered right in front of them, being forced to run away and keep it all inside, containing it, rather than being able to properly mourn them. She put a reassuring smile on her features when she saw the young boy by the stream, her tail holding a soft wag to it if only to try and lighten the mood. She couldn’t imagine what was going through his mind. She didn’t even know what would be running through her own if she were in his paws.

“Rabbit fer yer thoughts?” She asked softly as she let her rump gently rest on the ground next to him, intent on keeping that promise, even if it was just a metaphor. She’d been hunting earlier that day and had found a couple of rabbits… buried them to give to the pups later once she’d finished up.

He heard her approach, but didn't react, thinking it might be his father out looking for him. There was no presence left in his mind to make up a response for the inevitable question though; He'd have to stick with the old reliable answer. In fact he was so sure on the course the conversation, would take that his lips were already parted, words halfway spoken before he realized his mistake; "I'm fi…" Golden eyes forcefully tore themselves from the water, moving sluggishly to land on the unexpected company. Rather than finish the line, his mouth formed a silent 'oh' upon seeing the other woman. Lilya looked like she could easily have been born in Hearthwood, her colors a bit darker than Kyrios and his sister, but falling in the same pattern, soft cream and sand with hints of grey; She could be Kisla's daughter, similar in stature as well. The only part that stood out were her eyes, and they were the part the pale pup found most interesting. Looking into them now, he was fascinated by their rich, dark color. They looked like the deepest parts of the river. He thought they were very pretty.

"Oh uhm… Hi," he finally muttered, lowering his gaze as he'd been taught was respectful. What should he say next? His mind still moved like tar, oozing and dark, too slow to be much help. Lilya was nice enough, though the lad didn't know her too closely, she'd always been around. He remembered her bringing them food when they were too young to hunt, she'd always been kind. But could he tell her the truth? Could he tell her how lost and broken he felt, how he'd been so mad at his dad for tearing up their family, but now he felt guilty for it? There was no way of knowing what she would do with that, she was leading alongside Lachesis after all; Because apparently SHE'S okay..! In the end Kyrios just shrugged giving a weak smile and even weaker response: "I do like rabbits." Which was true, but he wasn't so sure he could pay the price.

She wasn’t taken aback by his brash response that slowly faded off into the shock of not seeing whoever it was he was expecting, instead seeing her. She gave a soft yet concerned smile to him as she continued to move closer, taking his silence as a welcome to approach instead of telling her to get lost. “Fine?” She asked softly, trying to finish his sentence. She knew that response too – the response she threw at her mother when she tried to ask what was wrong that one time before Lilya understood why her parents had been so strict about where she could and could not go.

She’d never really talked to him. She’d been around, seen him grow, but apart from his name, she didn’t really knew who he was. Part of her was still furious with Karina for abandoning the two children she’d been caring for and raising as her own, whisking her own child away without a thought to how the other two would feel. What was her problem, anyway? She didn’t know but she also wasn’t about to ask the boy who’d looked lost in thought. “Hi.” She offered as she took her seat right next to him, staring into the water for a moment. “Ah’ve got a couple buried near th'den… maybe we could head back to where Ah buried them, n'talk on th'way?” She proposed, her icy blue gaze watching him as she waited for a response.

@Lilya Didn't mean to let this die! <3 Also, sorry for angsty Kyribub

He jerked his head lightly, acknowledging the word, shuffling a bit to make room as she sat down beside him. His eyes remained fixed on the water, ears simply flicking when she returned his greeting. He had no idea how to interact with her, she was probably the one wolf in the pack he knew the least, and even if that was just as much his fault as hers, he was not in the mood to make friends now. His head was full of troubles and his new leader was about last on the list, yet here she was and he didn't exactly feel like he could turn her away. So he shrugged his shoulders, glancing up briefly at her suggestion; "Sure." Sitting here wasn't helping anything anyway.

Getting to his feet, the kid waited to fall in step beside his unexpected companion. Silence stretched again, golden eyes on his paws rather than the woman, ears cocked politely but no other attempts made at starting conversation. What was he supposed to say? The thoughts she had asked about earlier were one big muddle, and even if he'd known where to start, she was hardly the one to share it with; So, how come you didn't get kicked out? Though, perhaps there was something in there, a way to make heads and tails of all of this, or at least point out the adults' hypocrisy. So, without turning his head or even looking up, the pup asked: "So, you like… Leading?" His tone was detached, eyes fixed on his toes, as if he found them much more interesting than the answer. But in truth, he was listening very closely.
