RE: Whitestone Monadnock, a lynx has been driven to desperation by the cold, and is raiding your caches. Guardian demonstration 1/3

Golden eyes strained to see past the heavy snow which continued to fall from the dark cloudy sky, forcing the Whitestone male to make his steps from memory as he traipsed his way back up the old abandoned goat track. There was a subtle saunter in the way he moved and the male didn’t refrain from holding his black-tipped tail up proudly behind him as he clambered up onto the stone plateau with his prize still locked firmly between his jaws.

He planned to deposit his kill in the communal food cache before heading to the den to rest alongside the others. However, as his paws carried him quietly in the direction of the cache his dark nostrils suddenly flared at an alarming scent. Instinctively, Lorcan froze in his tracks and his russet ears swivelled forwards to listen out for the intruder.

To his horror the agouti male heard rustling by the food cache he had been heading towards. Dropping his kill on the cold stone, the Whitestone male advanced forwards, stalking silently towards the area the noises were coming from. As he did so, the foreboding scent he had noticed earlier grew stronger, so strong that he felt it burning within his nose. Dark fur bristled along his spine as golden eyes spotted movement at the entrance to the cache but it was only as he crept silently closer that he caught a glimpse of those unmistable pointed ears. Lynx!

The bridge of his muzzle wrinkled, exposing a flash of white fangs as a low growl rumbled in his throat, spooking the predator. His tail curled aggressively over his back as the creature quickly jumped around to face him, hissing at him violently. The stench which clung to its breath was enough to tell Lorcan of its success in raiding the Whitestone cache, which was enough to elicit a loud warning bark from the male as he lunged forwards to try and snap at the criminal.

Wraith Kael

It wasn't the first time the monolith had to be defended from feisty vermin. Rallying to @Lorcan's warning bark, Wraith mounted the top of the monadnock and stepped beside the healer in solidarity. Whatever their differences in the past, in this, they were pack. He recalled when they had first come to whitestone. The storm had been brutal and the terrain was already owned by another family. Lynx. In his mind's eye, Wraith saw the flash of lightning once again highlight the cub he'd tossed off the rise to its death with its mother before it. It was not a kind memory, nor one he cared to recall. Were they kin to this one?

No matter. Kin or not, it had no right to their hard earned kills. With the birthing season quickly approaching, he would not stand to let a single morsel go to feed anyone other than the Monadnock wolves.

Wraith hung back as Lorcan snapped at the creature, ready to stop it if it tried to dart past him looking for an escape route. No, the only escape that existed for thieves was right over the edge of the Monadnock. It was a long, long fall.

Guardian demonstration 2/3

Head lunged forwards to try and snap at the lynx which now stood at the entrance to the Whitestone’s food cache. White fangs flashed as his jaws closer in around the area that the feline’s nose had been, but by the time his teeth crashed together, all Lorcan had managed to bite down on with air. A snarl of frustration was released from his throat as his golden eyes darted around in an attempt to fix on the lynx’s location.

By this time @Wraith had appeared on the scene. Dark nostrils flared as the scent of his superior overpowered the air around him. Lorcan let out a chuff and dipped his tail a little behind him to acknowledge the dark male’s presence, whilst also refusing to divert his attention away from the greedy intruder. It seemed the cat had backed up further into the burrow. The sound of growls and hissing could be heard in the darkness of the cache and a pair of glowing eyes could be seen peering out from inside.

Not wanting the feline to have the advantage, Lorcan quickly set about digging at the rubble which formed the entrance to the cache. If he could make the entrance large enough he could wriggle further inside and grab the lynx. A glance was shot over to Wraith, silently seeking the older male’s assistance.
