For @Kyna! I know you wanted this a certain date but i don't remember rofl lemme know <3 || Northern part of Lost Lake, Morning, Sunny, -9 ° F, -23 ° C

He really didn't spend much time around the Notch during this time. He did his share where he could, though. Dropped a rabbit, or two if he was lucky, in the caches and did a round of borders. He was still very much there and involved but avoided the others. It was probably for the best so he wouldn't step on any toes or find himself in an unwanted situation.

The large male moved across the mountain. Further south than he should have but he really didn't care. The trip was long and he was positive he'd get a scolding but what did it matter? Gent had been so kind to take him in but Heigen knew that White Fir Notch couldn't be his home forever. He didn't belong there forever. It wasn't where he saw himself a year from now. The conversation needed to happen soon but it would be best to have his head cleared and words planned before explaining it all to the kind king.

He didn't know where he was. Skirting around the shores of a frozen lake. It was obvious he wasn't exactly there right now. His eyes looking at the ground as his pace was slow. Heigen was sure he could have passed for a zombie if such things existed. They didn't, did they?

She really needed to stop loitering around this damn lake. If nothing else, there was a pack nearby, which undoubtedly had a female alpha. Said alpha was probably pregnant, or planning on it, and Kyna remembered well just how moody and predictable her own mother had been once Lila had been conceived. It was a dangerous place to be, and even if she still didn’t feel like she had her head on quite right…she should really leave. Back up into the mountain, down the mountain, into the plains, and—

A familiar scent stopped the woman in her tracks, nose twitching. Not Greer – but another friendly face. Perhaps he would keep her company for a while; or even better, perhaps he had more medical knowledge than your average wolf. Kyna altered her course, breaking into an unsteady lope until Gen came into view. For all the older wolf felt like the walking dead, the young loner was quite certain she looked it.

“Gen!” she called, wishing not to startle her friend. Were they friends? They were acquaintances, at the very least. A known entity was far better than a stranger. “Gen! Are you busy?”

Please, let the man have at least a moment or two to spare.

He had not expected to run into anyone today. The large male certainly did not expect to run into the young girl today. He figured she'd be out seizing the season. Her odor was strong, though. Heigen scrunched his face for a moment before he composed himself. She called out his little nickname so he approached. A smile on his face as his strides brought them closer. Heigen already knew he was going to regret this.

"Kyna!" He called out her name in a warm tone. The kind a friend would use because that's what he considered them to be. Friends. "Not at all. What is it that you need?" The large Colette asked with an obvious face and tone of concern. He tried his best to keep himself composed. She was pretty indeed but perhaps too young for him to ogle at. Surely she didn't fancy him in such a way either. Granted he did wonder why she had come to him. Heigen figured there had to be a handful of eligible bachelors that topped him.

Before his thoughts could run too rampant he took a deep breath. Bad idea as her scent filled the air. As much as the Colette truly enjoyed Kyna as a wolf he really wished this didn't take too long. He'd need to bathe, roll in mud, and bathe again to feel distant from the season's aroma.

What did she need?

The question sent her mind spinning – there were so many answers. She needed, she wanted attention. Touch. Attention. Closeness. Those three things were close, but not quite what she was looking for. Was there even a word to describe the way she felt? If she tried to explain, would Gen even understand? Sometimes the wolf had to wonder if maybe she was broken. If this wasn’t the same thing that had happened to her mother, and maybe she was making it all up in her head.

Oh. He probably expected an answer, didn’t he?

“Uh,” Kyna said dumbly. Why had she called him over? Certainly not to gape like a fish out of water. Surely she hadn’t always been this strange. “I, uh-- Oh! Yes. I’ve been feeling a little – out of sorts, lately. I was hoping maybe you could help me hunt?” Her tail gave a hopeful little wiggle as she smiled up at the older wolf. It probably didn’t sound too appealing, did it? Help her out, and what did he get in return? Her thanks?

The smile already started to fade, and she gave a soft sigh, shoulders drooping. “That is, if you have sme time. If you feel like it.”

Perhaps any other time of the year he would have been content to let her take her time to find an answer but with that nature perfume he didn't feel like he could let her take her time. His brown eyes watched her face carefully. If he was a human he might have been quite literally on the edge of his seat ready to burst out of the room. Granted he was not so instead he stood in his best casual manner, trying to breathe as little as possible as nerves ran through his very being.

Her answer had not been what he had been expecting but that was a good thing. His tail beat at the air behind him. He wondered if she truly knew why she was feeling like she was but he didn't feel like playing parent and teaching something of such a topic. For all he knew, Kyna could have also known and just picked to not openly say it. Which was fine by him.

"Of course I have time, Kyna." Even if he hadn't he would have likely made time. Heat or no heat she was still a friend. "Are you familiar with the wildlife up here?" His head tilted slightly. Heigen had not been up here enough to be sure what to hunt or where to find the next meal.

Kyna allowed herself a shaking laugh – of course. Perhaps it felt natural to him, but the lone wolf certainly hadn’t been trained to expect anything from anyone else. Even Greer was met with some level of caution at all times; her closest friend might never mean to hurt her, but Phineas hadn’t, either. His body had given out, presumably against his will. Tomorrow was not guaranteed, and even when given, a wolf’s word was not to be trusted, not absolutely.

But she was quite a bit ahead of herself now, wasn’t she?

“Thank you,” she breathed, fire-bright eyes twinkling as she bobbed her head. Appreciation was never misplaced. “I’ve done some hunting, yes – mostly marmots, if Iyes is around, or squirrels. Injured mountain goats.” She rolled her shoulders in a shrug. They certainly shouldn’t count on anything injured, and Kyna had to guess the ice covering the Lost Lake wasn’t thin enough to go searching for any fish this time of the year, either. A marmot, though… She was getting quite practiced. As long as Heigen could follow basic directions, they should be fine. Putting her nose to the ground, she inhaled deeply – anything was a good distraction at this point. “We need to look for a burrow, yes? Both sides. Then we can scare it out.”

Even as she began to move, searching the ground for tracks or for sign to lead her back to the rodent’s den, she paused just long enough to let her eyes fall back over her partner, to make sure he was on board with the plan.
