Self threading with Ayti and Risaela - I'd like it private, please <3

Whatever shit was going on between himself and Cottongrass would have to be pushed aside. Ayti had gotten back to Hearthwood River eight days ago, five days prior to Kisla's death. He hadn't been present for the actual death of the Hearthwood matriarch - had only seen her body - but he felt her absence in the actions of everyone else around him. In Inna, who had lost her mother and sister (Lekalta had yet to be found). In Lachesis, who had lost a longtime friend and co-leader of the pack. In Oksana, who missed her grandmother. In the rest of the pack, who was shaken to its very core.

But especially in Matheo and Risaela.

He hadn't had the chance to see them since their mother's death, but he couldn't stop thinking about them. The poor little ones - they, too, had lost their mother. It was different than with Inna, who was a grown woman and had become distanced from her mother through the natural process of aging. Theo and Ris were only about three months old - it had ripped their whole lives apart. They were far too young to have lost her. Aytigin had been far too busy for the last few days to meet up with either child - he'd been upping the patrols and trying to find sign of Lekalta or the cougar that had killed Kisla, but had come up with nothing.

The dark wolf made his way through the pack's territory, scouting out for Risaela first. He wasn't as comfortable with Theo, and he wasn't worried about the boy wandering off and doing something that might get himself hurt. But Ris was different - with all the wandering she'd done already, he could already guess that it would be magnified by the loss of her only parent.

"Kitty?" he called, tilting his head to the side and scanning the undergrowth with concern. Who knew where the pale pup could be. "Kitty-cat? You around here somewhere?"

Risaela ???
The child had been asleep for the majority of the day. After staying awake for around forty-eight hours after her mother's death, she'd simply crashed underneath a bush and drifted to sleep where she lay. The ground was an uncomfortable mixture of muddy and hard, but it didn't matter when you were as exhausted as Risaela was. She'd fallen asleep the night prior, and only woken up the next evening to the sound of someone calling through the woods.

'Kitty!'

Only one wolf called her that, and that was her friend Ayti. She hadn't seen him for a few days, and they usually played whenever they saw each other, but she didn't feel like playing now. She was still so tired, but it wasn't just from lack of sleep; she was emotionally drained and spiritually worn down. There was just no way she could conjure up the energy to tussle with him now.

'Kitty-cat? You around here somewhere?'

But Ayti didn't sound like he wanted to play, either. His own voice was gruff and tired, and he would understand why she wouldn't want to wrestle. With that in mind, the girl struggled to her feet and stumbled from underneath the bush, silver eyes glancing around to try and find her friend.

Fortunately, it did not take long to find the little pup, as she clambered out from underneath a bush up ahead when he called for her. Hazel eyes softened as he approached her, keeping his posture low so as not to frighten her. He didn't know how much she'd seen of her mother's death, but he knew - without a shadow of a doubt - that she was traumatized.

"Hey," he greeted, and was rewarded with her headslamming directly into his chest, her little body trembling hard. The dark wolf lowered his head to wrap around her in a sort of makeshift hug, squeezing his eyes shut. "It'll be alright, Ris. I know it seems bad now, but everyone loves you, you know." She peeled away from his chest, her face crumpled pitifully. He offered her a soft smile. "Besides, your mommy's not gone." He had been practicing this little speech for a while now.

Her brows knitted in confusion, and he continued, "All good wolves, when they die, go to a special place in the sky called heaven." She tilted her head to the side. "Kisla can watch you all the time from where she is now, and she's never going to leave you. Even if you can't see her." The child's silver eyes flooded over with tears then, and they began cascading down her cheeks. Shit. Did everything he ever said have to be wrong?

"No, no - why are you crying, sweetheart?" he asked, watching as she pressed her little face back into the fur along his chest.
