Lorcán Artemieva
Guardian demonstration 1/3

Lorcan had been doing his best to keep a low profile lately. Besides from looking out for and baby-sitting the pack puppies when required and checking in on his daughter and Inna, who still seemed awfully withdrawn since their return from the lowlands, the agouti healer spent most of his day keeping quiet and trying to make himself whilst also trying his best to keep out of trouble.

It seemed like this morning he was out of luck.

The male hadn’t been able to sleep through most of the night, his mind too busy reanalysing everything that had occurred recently and worrying about the effect it was having on those closest to him. Finally, no longer possessing enough will power to remain still within his den any longer, Lorcan hauled his way out groggily into the faint light which cascading through the trees at dawn.

The sound of Aytigin’s snarl caught him off guard and without a moment of hesitation, the agouti male lept into a sprint, golden eyes still adjusting to the world as he swerved clumsily between the trees towards him. He spotted the large dark form of his pack mate with ease, even in the poor light. What struck him though were the two other wolves he spotted, ones which he did not recognise and which strangely smelt of shit. Sensing Aytigin’s aggression, Lorcan raced forwards with his tail raised and fangs bared.

He didn't know who these wolves were or exactly what they were doing but he certainly didn't want them there.

As he spotted the female leaving to flee Lorcan chased after her, ignoring the ache in his muscles as he kicked his legs into full speed in his pursuit, jaws snapping wildly at her tail.

Saros Andromeda-Tainn
@Namir next, please. Given consent to say Saros wasn't hit.

This went far more south than he had been expecting. There were two pack wolves now and Big Buzzard didn't have a damned clue where the second one had come from but he was chasing after Little Crow. Food wasn't worth this work so he dropped the dumb half eaten hare on the ground. They could have it back all slobbered and smelly. Buzzard would get food elsewhere.

He kept hauling forward without much concern. He would do his best to shield Little Crow from the attacks of the pack wolves. It wasn't like he was gonna risk his life for her or anything but if she got messed up by one of these fellas than he lost a lot of perks of hanging with her. But he would make no motive to attack them simply be the block between them and Crow. It was likely the first selfless act that Big Buzzard (or Saros since that was who he really was) had done. It wasn't for family, it wasn't for some childhood friend. It was a strange girl that had been nice enough to keep him fed and let him tag along on this wild adventure.

Soon enough they would be free from the mess that this adventure had brought forth. He figured they would need to find a creek or pond or anything with water so that they could cleanse themselves of this shit.
Saros is currently going under the alias Big Buzzard or Buzzard - thanks to a name given by Namir

Little Crow
Nope.  Nope.

The big fat barker had gotten the others’ attention, even if it was foggy and early and normal wolves weren’t even awake right now.  Her tail lashed behind her as they closed in, the dark one lunging for Big Buzzard as the lighter one kept on her own tail.  Shit, she didn’t see this one show up – he came out of nowhere like those long, flat winds.  Dust devils, maybe.  But he was fast, and that was the scary thing.  The big one wasn’t gonna catch them, but this one?  It was a real danger.  And a nip on the tail was one thing, but a real bite, that would really mess ‘em up.

Especially when you were small.  And skinny.  And more coyote than wolf at heart.

So Namir did the smartest thing she could do, and dropped the squirrel from her aching jaws.  Would it stop the guy?  Maybe.  Maybe not.  It didn’t matter as much, because she could breath easier now, and lengthen her stride again, ignoring the burn in her throat and her chest and her lungs.  She’d meet up with Buzzard later, after he ditched his own follower.  Divide and conquer, they’d be fine.  Regroup.

Figure something else for the next pack.

See you, cowboy.

And Namir and Saros were gone into the Redwood Forest.

Exit.

Namir and Saros have left the thread.

Pale paws beat rapidly against the hard dirt as he chased after the tawny female, stretching his neck forwards to reach out and snap his jaws dangerously close to her tail in an attempt to intimidate her and keep her running. If she had any sense she would do just that and if she valued her pretty hide she would think twice before ever attempting to waltz into pack territory again.

Lorcan did his best to ignore the aching in his limbs as he ran. He hated to admit it, but all the travelling he had done recently had taken a toll on his body. Golden eyes darted down suddenly as he saw the female drop something, a blur of ginger fur. He couldn’t smell exactly what it was through the heavy scent of faeces which filled his nostrils, but as his attention lapsed momentarily away from the fleeing wolf and onto the object she had discarded, she quickly got away from him.

The healer felt a bit relieved that he didn’t have to run any longer, the ache in his legs had been growing hard to ignore. He exhaled sharply and gradually began to slow down to stop, sounding a few loud warning barks as he did so. Turning around, he cast his gaze around for the other wolf and spotted the flash of their coat as they raced away through the trees in the distance, then glanced down to the dead squirrel which now lay in the dirt.

Russet ears perked up a few moments later at the sound of laboured footfall and his eyes soon met Aytigin, narrowing at the sight of his visible limp. Chest heaving from exhaustion, he whipped his tail through the air behind him angrily as he turned to his pack mate. “They didn’t hurt you badly did they?” He asked in concern.

A series of curses stumbled their way off the ghost’s tongue as he ripped through the forest, plump rabbit tight between his canines. Unfortunately for the old man Hearthwood seemed incapable of having a day pass without incident. Whether it was turmoil between packmates or nearby packs, the wolves of the river seemed to attract all sorts of creatures and drama. One more day, he thought aggressively to himself as branches nipped at his sides, attempting to slow him done, it couldn’t have waited one more day. Upon returning to the Kingswood he had stumbled upon a loner at his borders who sought membership within their tight-knit group. Which had held him up and prevented him from interfering with the trespassers.

The scents were hard to locate for the area surrounding the cache reeked of shit, causing his nose to wrinkle as his pace slowed. His shoulders sagged in relief as he spotted the ebony Guardian and the tawny Healer, both wolves looking winded and confused by what had just happened. Dropping the rabbit at his feet his chartreuse gaze flitted back and forth between the pair, his ears pinned forward as his tail arched over his back. “What happened?!” He asked, his tone dripping with confusion rather than anger. “Are you two okay?” Dammit. If only he hadn’t been intercepted at the border; perhaps if the three of them had been present they would have been able to catch one of the intruders…

Aytigin didn't stop until he was at the border, several wolf-lengths behind the others because he was - frankly - very slow, and that was inhibited further by his wounded shoulder. Damn it. But he was still steaming with rage as he skidded to a halt at the marker line, his lips curled back into a furious snarl. "And stay the fuck out!" he shouted after the fleeing yearlings, fur bristled up to make him appear even larger than he actually was.

Well. At least they'd dropped the food.

He sagged a bit, then glanced at Lorcan with a smirk. He always forgot that this guy was a healer. "Those two couldn't hurt me if they tried," he responded, attempting to smooth over his pelt and the fury that still bubbled under his skin. "Glad you showed up, though. Thanks." It had been really nice to have some backup, and he doubted that the two of them would've dropped the food had Lorcan not appeared. He was so much faster.

Then, fortunately, Lachesis appeared, looking confused as all hell. Ayti couldn't blame him. "Oh, I'll tell you what the fuck just happened," he growled, not at his alpha, but just in general. He was still so pissed off, and his shoulder really hurt. "Two wolves rolled in shit and slipped across our borders to try and steal some of our food. They didn't actually manage to take anything though, because Lorcan gave 'em a good chase and they had to drop it." For obvious reasons, Ayti couldn't have caught up with them. He was holding his paw slightly off the ground, unwilling to put weight on it.

The agouti male’s muzzle wrinkled as @Aytigin shouted after the two wannabe thieves and as the darker male stood there, standing their ground, Lorcan traipsed over to the nearest tree and cocked up his leg. The fresh urine would make a stink around their borders which he hoped would warn the pair that they were still around to guarding the territory should they dare to return. His attention then turned solely towards his fellow pack mate, golden eyes inspecting the larger male over. Aytigin’s limp had been obvious as he had come to catch up with him and the healer was concerned that the male had been injured in the scuffle.

Lorcan nodded at the male’s dismissive response but his pale brows remained furrowed in concern. “Well let me check out your shoulder in a bit, see if I can help with that limp.” The healer was oblivious to the fact that Aytigin’s limp was due to an old injury, not one caused by the bandits that morning. Dark nostrils flared as he glanced around the scene momentarily before the subordinate dipped in his head in acknowledgement of his pack mate’s thanks.

Before he could answer Lachesis’s voice sounded behind them. Turning around, he greeting his superior with a submissive curl of his tail, russet ears falling back against his head in the face of the male’s anger as Aytigin raised his voice to answer. He was glad that the darker male done all the talking, because truthfully, it had all been a confusing blur to Lorcan and mentally his sleepy mind was still trying to catch up.

The healer gave a shy smile towards @Lachesis as Aytigin praised him, hoping that it would put him back in their leader’s good books. But still, he could not take all the credit. “I wouldn’t have known they were here had you not caught them in the act.” Lorcan responded, flashing the dark male a respectful smile.

if you two want to chuck in one more reply each i can fade with lach's next post? <3 sorry for holding this up!

The attempted raid on the Hearthwood cache had happened at the most inconvenient time. Lachesis had been stopped at the borders on his way home from the golden fields, and while the river pack had acquired another member, one of their caches had been infiltrated. He was thankful that both Aytigin and Lorcán had been present, for the thieves could have disappeared with a few meals clutched between their jaws. Fortunately nothing had been taken—aside from a half-chewed, slobbery squirrel that had been abandoned once the thieves had been caught. At least the newcomer had arrived with a rabbit—a replacement for the soiled rodent.

He listened to Aytigin’s explanation through narrowed brows, too angry at the situation to pay attention to the ebony male’s tone. A sigh of relief escaped him as his subordinate explained Lorcán had given chase, ensuring that the bandits did not disappear with any of their food. “I’m glad you were both here,” he commented with a defeated sigh, his tail flicking behind him. “Thank you,” he added, his gaze lingering on the golden-eyed healer as he offered him a lop-sided smile. “I doubt they’ll return after you two scared them off, but we’ll have to keep an eye on the borders,” he added, his words dripping with frustration. “Lorcán, can you try to follow their trail? Make sure they left Hearthwood?” He asked as he motioned to the trees where the stench of wolf and shit lingered. Now that his and Inna’s punishment had been released XIX wanted to show the healer that he still trusted him. “I can tend to Aytigin’s shoulder,” he added, his gaze landing on the injured male.

Lorcan was relieved when Lachesis offered him a smile and thanked them both for their actions. Given his recent trip to the lowlands and the confrontation at the Wild Rye borders, along with the fact that the pale leader now knew of his true relation to Oksana, he was surprised that Lachesis was even willing to acknowledge him. Maybe there was still hope for him after all. He had carried out the baby sitting duties as requested and if he carried on with his good behaviour and continued to prove his worth, like today, maybe Lachesis would be able to forgive him.

Golden eyes flickered briefly over to Aytigin before returning to the pale leader as he was spoken to directly. The healer would have preferred to have seen to the dark male himself, but Lachesis was just as qualified and his word was law. Lorcan wasn’t about to go and make a protest. “Yes Sir.” He responded, offering an obedient nod towards Lachesis and then a last glance over to Aytigin out of respect. It shouldn’t be too hard for him to trail after the pair of thieves, now that he was aware of their pungent scent it was hard to miss.

Nose to the ground, Lorcan set about following after them.

Aytigin Delaney
Lorcan was kind to offer to check his shoulder, but Aytigin would have definitely be much more comfortable with Lachesis tending to it. Regardless, he smiled at the offer, tail giving a couple of soft wags before Lachesis did show up. He liked to think that, perhaps, he and the other male were beginning to develop some kind of relationship. Which, to be honest, had taken long enough. After being a part of the pack for at least five months, Aytigin thought that it was about damn time. Perhaps the others just needed to get used to him, or maybe he was just getting better.

Then Lach did show up, and responded with suppressed anger, as Aytigin had expected of him. The dark wolf stayed quiet as he spoke, both thanking them for their effort and sending Lorcan to follow their scent trail. For obvious reasons, Ayti himself couldn't do that, though he did feel uncomfortable with the healer going by himself. Still, he said nothing, and instead nodded his head when the alpha offered to check on his shoulder.

Exhaustion weighed heavily on the chocolate-pelted man as he turned to head toward Lachesis' medical den.
