Corsair Donata
Random Event: Corsair, you accidentally get in the way of a grizzly scavenging for pre-hibernation food.
Backdated to Dec 2. For @Gamrmir

Corsair was a piece of cheese, lazily melting on toast. That was, if wolves could be made out of cheese and rocks of bread. He'd found one of the very few spots in the Spectral Woods where a bit of light filtered through the dark canopy above him. After going much farther from home than he'd intended and had decided that he deserved a small rest. A small rest turned into him quietly snoring and laying where the warmth hit him in all the right places. He was a heavy sleeper, his paws and maw twitching as he dreamed. Eventually he shifted, which ended up in a yelp and a rude awakening. All good naps had to come to an end eventually.

He blinked the sleep from his eyes and licked his bruised side. He had a good ways trek home and he might as well get going before his parents got too worried. Even half-asleep he knew exactly where to go, so Corsair walked through the darkness of Spectral Woods with heavy eyelids. He was mid-yawn when he bumped into someone, which woke him up a little bit more. They hadn't smelled familiar. "Watch it," he growled, even knowing that he was the one who had bumped into the other. He got a better look at the wolf, who looked weird and was a little bit bigger than any wolf he'd seen. The legs were all wrong, and there wasn't a tail! Sure, it had black fur, and lots of wolves had black fur, but so did other things, right?

The not-wolf growled at him, and then did something amazing: it stood up on its hind legs, dwarfing the young boy. It roared, spitting a combination of berries and drool right on his face. Some of it got in his eye. Suddenly realizing that he was defenseless, and his stupid legs weren't working, he used the only weapon at his disposal. Corsair screamed.

He had not ever seen a bear before.

Garmir Ghostpaw
OOC: By December 2nd, Garmir has gone down from 58kg to 48kg. He is is already in bad shape, but not as bad as he is during his joining attempt to CAD dec 13th.

------------

The past few days had been blurry and occasionally desperate for Garmir whom by now was starting to doupt he would ever be able to find Anaeia. her last trail had gone cold months ago and even then, the tracks had been made before snowfall. She had not left any signs for him since he had first seen one near secret falls and by now Garmir was only searching her with nothing but a hunch and attempt to get into ther head and guess what she might try next, or where she might have gone. He had never admitted it before, but Anaeia had always been better one of the two and her speciality was infiltration, sneaking in and out of hostile territories with no trace to follow. Garmir had never beat her - not once - unless she decided to throw the game for him in order to make him look better in front of their peers. This was no longer game however, and she wasn't going to let him find her for sure, not after what had happen.

His code howver forbid him from giving up, and thus in his near desperate search for her, he had begin to abandon sleep and refuse to eat, dedicating all his time to her search. It had cost him, but Garmir was still functional and able to keep going, even if he was constantly exhausted and tired.

A glimmer of hope had sparked inside him as he had noticed movement in the forest. The steps were light and delicate enough and Garmir thought it might - just might be his friend in hiding. After all this was quite befitting place. He had begin to stalk, to trail his target, but quickly realized - as he first piked his scent that this was no Anaeia, not at all. Just some stray pup propably looking to get himself eaten by bear or something...

He'd already begin to turn around when he heard roar and then pup scream in annoying high pitched tune. Garmir's ear perked up at the direction as he realized what was going on. That happen way faster than what he had expected. A split second decision was presented to him. He could turn around and keep walking away.. or he could make attempt to save the pup. He chose to walk away but for some reason he found himself running to other direction, towards the bear and the young'un who was too stupid apparantly to save himself. Garmir rushed at Corsair and brought his jaws around his muzzle to quiet the screaming welp, while at the same time janking him aside. He was not gentle in his risky manouver. In his books few small scratches on muzzle beat having head split in half by bear's claws. "Quiet idiot! You only agitate it by screaming!" -He murmured in low but demanding tone.

Corsair Donata
Corsair's mind was blank, unable to even consider what might happen next. He knew he had to move, but somehow he just screamed instead. There were teeth around his maw and he was certain that this was it, that his head would be ripped clean off, just like he'd done to a rabbit not just last week. Instead of whatever it felt like to have his head ripped off, the boy was being pulled away. The stranger's teeth scraped along his face and he found the ability to move his paws again.

His mind reeled, his eyes wide as he looked to the dark stranger to the bear. He stumbled, trying to keep up as @Garmir wildly tugged him away from the threat, whining and yelping all the way. After a few steps, he seemed to understand that he was saved, and for the time being, was no longer going to be a large creature's dinner. The stranger uttered a command and Corsair, dumb with fear, whimpered in response.

The bear had not moved, and now stood, only watching the two wolves.

The Donata boy was so scared that he felt like he was going to throw up, or pass out... or both. He was crying now, his throat tight. He looked up to the man, who seemed to know more than he did. At least more enough to know that you probably shouldn't scream at bears. Helpless to even think for himself, or consider his own options, he begged the stranger, "What do we do?"

Garmir Ghostpaw
Garmir himself had never seen bear this close and from where he came from, sheer numbers of his former pack were able to drive away any rival predator regardless of size, making this first real encounter for himself as well. If ther was one thing he knew however of this creatures was that they were not all that aggressive as their imposing figure would suggest. He let go for Corsair's muzzle, and kept murmuring instructions in low tune as he kept eyes on the giant creature towering over them. "We back off slowly. If it comes running at us, Im throwing you between me and it - so stay quiet." -Garmir threatened.

The earthen colored male was in bad shape and thus he'd propably had no energy to run from bear if it really came to it. He was oddly chivalrous to attempt to save the young one, but that was where his heroism ended, and if he really had to choose between himself and corsair, he would throw the pup between himself and the bear at heartbeat.

Corsair Donata
Corsair managed to think two seconds ahead and stopped himself from loudly protesting. He wasn't going to let some scraggly, mangy mutt throw him towards the bear! He was a Donata! So he was better than this nobody ever was!! The boy bit his lip, deciding that he could educate @Garmir on his Relic Lore history at another time. For now they could both slowly walk away from the angry giant thing with teeth. He replied to the man with nothing but a glare and a single nod.

As they backed away, amazingly, the bear didn't rush forward. Corsair got angry with himself, angry for screaming like a child, angry that he didn't know what he was supposed to do, and especially angry at the man. The two eventually retreated to safety, and the Donata was crying furious tears now. His face was bleeding and it hurt, his throat was tight, and how the heck was he supposed to tell his mom what happened?!

Unable to contain himself, he finally shouted at the man, "What's wrong with you!?"

Garmir Ghostpaw
Their combined retreat happen without incident, the bear calmind down enough as the two wolves drew some distance between it and them. Rescue mission success, but someone wasn't all that happy it seemed. Garmir snorted as he saw the youngling start crying, turning his gaze away and murmuring something about weak and pathetic to himself. He was already getting ready to leave when the pup all of sudden shouted at him.

Garmir halted, his ear twitched and then rotated slightly aback towards Corsair. The earthen male exhaled a deep breath as if amidst of deciding if answering was even going to be worth it. His head turned only the slightest to the side as he gave the pup hars glare with the corner of his eyes. His muzzle pulled back and he sneered in distaste. "Wrong?"

He turned to face the young man again and took few threatening steps towards him, holding back a growl. "Nothing is wrong with me. What is wrong with you I should ask rather. Just look at you, crying like some pathethic newborn welp. Are you a wolf or what?" -He growled his reply, not at least minding if it hurt the young one.

Corsair Donata
Corsair stood his ground as the older man stepped towards him. His ears pinned and the fur on his back stood on its end, his face angrily scrunching up as he stared directly into the man's eyes. Anger flared up in him, and although @Garmir was probably-definitely more experienced than him in everything, he had half of the mind to attack. For a second he imagined Serach beside them, and felt guilty. He was being a child, and his parents wouldn't be proud of him for acting the way he was. The boy looked away, "You're right," he murmured, "I'm sorry. I'm acting childish," not to mention that he was one. The boy brought a paw up to his face to wipe it, but only ended up smearing blood everywhere.

He stamped his pride down. "Thank you for saving me," the words were bitter on his tongue, but he tried to make them sincere nonetheless. "My name's Corsair Donata. What's your's?" he looked in the direction of the bear, "And what was that thing?"

Garmir Ghostpaw
Garmir's outburst  seemed to bring some sense to the pup, even if the older male did not choose most kindest of words. He stared right back into the pup's wet eyes all the way until he decided that he was right and looked aside. Seeing that faintest act of submission calmed the older man and Garmir took his stern, judging gaze off Corsair, deciding not to waste more words arguing. He did not expect much gratitude for his act, but Corsair did surpise him by thanking his unusual hero suddenly. Further he even introduced himself.

Garmir's ears perked at the question. He had really never heard or seen bear before? "That was a bear. They are big, dull and stupid creatures but their size makes up for it. If you don't bother them, they rarely bother you in turn - unless food is involved or there are cubs nearby." Garmir would have educated the young un more if there had been reason for it, but he was sure Corsair would be asking about bears from his parents as soon as he made it back to the pack - if he made it.

"I'm Garmir. Just Garmir without fancy second names."
-He murmured since they were trading names it seemed.

Corsair Donata
Corsair murmured a quiet ohh at the explanation. "I thought they were bigger," he had only heard of bears, and imagined them to be much scarier than they were. Not that his first encounter wasn't terrifying, but he had imagined beasts as big as trees, with teeth as big as his whole leg. He made a note to steer clear from them regardless, especially if there were small ones. He had more questions, but for some reason this man didn't seem like the type who he could banter with a million questions about bears.

"Garmir," he tried the name out, and couldn't decide if he liked it or not. It was okay, he guessed. "What are you doing all the way out here?" he couldn't ask the important questions, like where bears went, or what a baby one looked like, but he could certainly ask too-personal of questions. "And how do you know so much about bears?"
